A Stitchity Update and Film #5

Gentle Friends since I have been doing next to no stitching posts while I count down some fun films I thought I might just throw in an update on the Christmas Band sampler I have sort of been working on.....  it seems that every evening I am just busy doing something other than stitching.....  I guess it's that time of year!!  Well, here it is, the update...

... I am actually a bit more along than this, but not much!  I really love the colours that are used.  I am thinking that things will actually slow down over the weekend and I'll get some big chunks of stitching time in - so I am anticipating this being much further along by next week - fingers crossed.

For the #5 spot I have picked a modern film, in fact a modern British/American 3D Animated film......

"Arthur Christmas" - 2011 - starring James McAvoy, Hugh Laurie, Bill Nighy, Jim Broadbent, Imelda Stauton and Ashley Jensen - the story is set on Christmas eve and the youngest son of Santa, Arthur, learns that a present was not delivered and a child would wake up with nothing from Santa.  Arthur makes it his mission to deliver the present.  With the help of his grand father, the retired Santa Claus, Byrony, and elf, and the old fashioned reindeer and sleigh delivery system they take on the mission.

I really enjoyed this film and found the story line of a dysfunctional "Santa" family and the power struggle as to who will be the next "Santa" very entertaining.   There have been many films over the years with the "save Christmas" theme, but this one has a different twist to it and I think it quite charming.  It is available on both DVD and Blu Ray - so get a copy and give it a chance, I think you'll enjoy it!!

Here's the trailer for the film from You Tube....

That's about it for today sports fans - thanks again for stopping by, do stop again!!

Take care,

  1. I love the colors in your sampler too! I have never heard of this film - thanks for mentioning it. Hope you get lots of stitching time in this weekend!

  2. I love your new start - the colours are gorgeous! I have been resisting this sampler as I've done any long sampler by Beth, but you're making it difficult! ;-)

  3. I'm enjoying your daily film critiques, and this sounds like another great one that I've never seen. Of course, I always love seeing what you've been stitching on. This looks like another beauty, Edgar! Can't wait to see the updates once the holiday stressors wane.

  4. Dearest Edgar: Love your sampler it is lovely, the colors are so beautiful.
Love the film, at work I am known as the animation queen because I love any animation film.
Merry Christmas to You Rico and the Hoo Hounds.

  5. The sampler is lovely ... I particularly like the fern motif that serves as a divider.

I keep waiting for you to include The Little Shop Around The Corner in one of its many incarnations in your list of films for Christmas. I think my favorite is the Jimmy Stewart version. I have never really taken a shine to Van Johnson.

  6. Edgar, your Christmas Band Sampler is beautiful - love the colours! I am so enjoying the Christmas movies and critiques. Wanda

  7. Thank you Edgar for introducing this film. My kids are off to Christmas holiday from school on Friday, and I just decided to buy the dvd and some movie snacks to celebrate the occasion. I am sure they will love it.
Your stitching looks so beautiful, I really like your taste on samplers.
Merry and Snowy Christmas Greetings from Finland.

  8. I love the Band sampler. I went to see that film last year with my kids. Such a great film.

  9. John & I watched this film for the first time a couple nights ago & we both loved it!

  10. Love the colors in your band sampler. Who is the designer? I can't place this one. Are you counting the movies down to your all time favorite?

  11. The colors on your new project are so pretty. I'll have to give that movie a try.

  12. I had to go look up that band sampler -- so pretty! I somehow missed this one. That movie -- I still haven't seen it and I so want to! Maybe I'll force my family to watch it over Christmas. :D
