Flashback Friday

Gentle Friends, now that we are quickly heading to Fall, my favorite time of the year, I have really started thinking abut the upcoming Holidays.... and Christmas is at the top of the list... so here's a piece from about 10 years ago...

Lizzie Kate "ABC's of Christmas"
36ct BoF "Meadowlark" using the included floss
5/1 - 5/25/2013

Although not my usual type of stitching project, this piece resonated with me then and still does as it hangs up year round and I see it just about every day in the "gallery."

A Little Stitchin'

Gentle Friends, slow but steady stitching on SR... without a "real" chart the counting has been very tedious and there has been quite a bit of frogging... here's a snap...

...  no matter how slow it goes this will get done.

Flashback Friday

Gentle Friends, today I pulled a compilation piece of cute sheep...  here's the snaperooo..

"Little Sheep Virtues" by Little House Needleworks and
"Sheep in the Meadow" by Country Cottage Needleworks - 2/11/2018 - 4/7/2018
36ct Lakeside Lines Vintage Sand Dune - using my overdyed floss conversion

I remember seeing this on the internet as a finish and immediately went out and bought up all the charts and got to stitching.  It was a fun stitch and it turned out really well if I do say so myself.

A Little Stitchin' Finsh and a Little Stitchin' Start - Fall I

Gentle Friends, I finished up Mary Ann, or I should say I finished up my version of Mary Ann,  as you might remember it was an exclusive kit from a Facebook Group I belong to... here's a snaperoo...

6/30 - 8/9/2022
The Mary Ann Aldred Sampler - Needlework Press
40ct LL Vintage Pear
Recommended CC Floss

Although I had originally planned and bought the whole shebang to stitch on the called for 40ct Vintage Country Mocha...when I started stitching I REALLY did not like the linen...so the Vintage Pear came from my stash...I also "adjusted" bits here and there I wasn't happy with in the sampler.  I know it's a "reproduction" and all that  - BUT - it's me that's gotta stitch and be the one happy whilst doing the stitching... and some of the wonkiness just was NOT going to fly...so I fixed, moved, and did it my way.  Sorry, it looks a bit wavy, but I didn't notice it when I was taking the pictures and I didn't want to pull it out from the box of finishes in the closet to re-take...   I do like how it turned out and although I'm not a "pink" person, I do like the pink in this.

My first Fall piece is... Salem Remembered by The Primitive Sticher by Lisa Roswell who died back in 2011.  This has been on my list of rare, HTF, and elusive charts for years.  I've chased them all over the place and have never been able to acquire a copy.  I guess I could have a copy, but I'm just not willing to pay over $300 for a chart that consists of a list of names with a few bits and bobs in a box!!!  Nope, not doing it... so I put on the old thinking cap and got to work.

There are many pictures of SR in various stages of stitching and lots of completed ones on the Internet.  I found all the pertinent images I needed to basically recreate the chart myself without stooping to a bootleg copy.  Lisa's family made a statement years ago that there would be no re-printing of charts so that was always going to be a brick wall I would hit.  I think I've come up with a good solution, I'm smart enough to stitch it from the pictures I've got and I can count and I even found a list of the silks used.  I've had to adjust the silks also as one of them is no longer available...
so here's my small start...

Salem Remembered - The Primitive Stitcher

36ct "Barn Owl" - Birds of a Feather

Various Silks

You might notice linen I'm using is a wonderful piece of older BoF Barn owl.  Quite a few years ago Birds of a Feather were linen dyers in Oregon that made the most gorgeous linen that was a dream to stitch on in beautiful colors.  All the linens were named for birds and this was my go-to linen!!  They have long gone and this is my very last piece of linen from BoF.  It's kinda bittersweet using this last piece but it had to go at some point and I'm happy to use it for this stitch.

Flasback Friday

Gentle Friends, today's stitch is one from the Hawk Run Series from Kathy Barrick... from quite a few years ago... here's a snaperoo..

Village of Hawk Run Hollow
9/5/07 - 9/14/09
Lambswool 32 ct Linen     Recommended NPI Silk

This was a WIP for a few years which is unusual for me as I'm really a mono-stitcher and stick to a piece until finished.  With that being said...I must confess that I do have a few WIPs lingering in the background... I'm not sure why but there they are and at some point, I'll get back, but not anytime soon as my Fall stitching lineup is calling me.  Now, back to this VoHRH, I still love this series and have stitched a couple but the rest are just charts waiting for stitching.

A Little Stitchin'

Gentle Friends, I'm still slowly stitching away on Mary Ann... here's a snap...

... the top is in and now it's on the bottom half and once those two trees I'll get to the verse and name.  I have already got my Fall stitches lined up ( a smallish one that will work up fast and a larger one that should carry me right up to a Christmas stitch) and all the silks gathered from the four corners of the world.  I had quite a time finding some of the colors I didn't already have in my stash, but I guess it's the times we are living in that are causing the disruption...

Flashback Friday

Gentle friends, the piece I'm posting today comes from a few years ago... here's a snap...

February 20 - March 17, 2017
"Fragments in Time - Sampler Motifs" by Summer House Stitche Workes
36ct Barn Owl called for GAST

I remember the only change I made was to add the little red bird to the "M."  I have collected yearly series and have all the charts and at some point will go back and get them stitched up.  Such a fun quick stitch!!

A Little Stitchin'

Gentle Friends, I finished up the second Christmas piece and got back to Mary Ann... here's a snap...

... I've shifted the "orange tree" a bit and... this is the second time I stitched the pink star.  It's charted as over one, but when I stitched it in it was a bit oddball out looking so I frogged it and restitched it over two,  now I'm much happier about the way it looks.

Gentle Friends, I've always loved stitching Quaker pieces, but none more than this piece... 1798 Quaker Sampler by Goode Huswife 40ct B...
