A Little Stitchin'

Gentle Friends, still stitching my way across WFS... here's a snaperoo...

... the snap is craptastic as the linen is really more grey than yellow, but you get the idea.  Only the last third left to go and then on to my next project waiting in the wings.

Flashback Friday

Gentle Friends..... here's a sampler for the Thanksgiving season from about 10 years ago...

"Feast of Friendship" designed by Blackbird Designs - 9/18 - 11/3/13 - 36ct Barn Owl
Using mostly recommended overdyed - changing GAST "Piney Woods" for CC "Baby Spinach and adding CC "Sassy Brass" to the roof tiles.

I remember this as a really fun stitch and it's framed and hung up on the sampler wall so I can see it every day.  It's amazing that almost ten years have gone by since this was stitched... Tempus fugit!!

A Little Stitching

Gentle Friends, I'm stitching away on WFS, and here's a snaperooo...

I'm really enjoying this piece and is stitching up quickly.  I am however not happy with the chart.  As I said before the chart and pictures are significantly different with missing parts of the project.  Now working away on the piece I find that there is a missing symbol and incorrect symbols used almost indiscriminately.  So as I stitch along I compare the color image and the chart and then decide what might work... not the best option but it's my only option at this point.  It'll get done but it would have been easier on me the stitcher if there was more proofing done before going to press.  Whatever, it's a lovely little piece and the different poinsettias are going to work out fine!

Friday Flashback

Gentle Friends, today is another smaller sampler from the sampler wall...

"Flower Basket" - from La-D-Da

I couldn't find the linen type, but I am sure I used the called-for floss.  I know this because even after all these years later I still remember that the lite blue floss used is a linen floss that, for me at least, shred all over the place as I stitched and was a nightmare to work with.  I swore then and there when I finished this piece that NEVER again would I use linen floss again... and whenever I bumped up against it being used I will always substitute cotton or silk to achieve the color and keep my sanity.

A Little Fall Finish and a Little Winter Start

Gentle Friends, I finished up AGW over the weekend, and here's a snaperoo...

"A Ghoultide Welcome" - Plum Street Samplers
40ct LL Pecan Butter
Called for NPI Silk

I still think I'm not doing the fill around the motto ..the other change I made was in the wording and I added a pumpkin by the tree.  "A Yuletide Welcome" is on deck at some point in the future.

The Christmas sampler I picked out has been knocking around in the "to-do" charts pile for a very long time.  This is the year... here's the beginning of this small piece...

"Winter Floral Sampler" from Knotted Tree Needle Art
30ct WDW Tin Roof - Called for NPI Silk

It's been soooo long since I've worked on linen with such a low count that I forgot I would need to use two strands of silk to get decent coverage. I do like how the colors look against the grey linen.

This chart dates back to 2007 and I didn't notice until I started getting the silk and linen together that the stitched image of the completed chart on the front is very different from what's actually charted.  There are significant differences with missing bits - but it is what it is and I think I chose this sampler for the cardinal in the center anyway!!  It'll be a fun piece to stitch up!!

Flashback Friday

Gentle Friends...today's flashback is a smaller sampler that seems to fit the season...here's a snaperoo...

"Harvest Blessing" by Mary Beale
from Pocketbook Needlework No. 8  Fall 1990
Stitched on 28ct  "Fresco"  Recommended DMC

I framed it up in an antique frame I found at an estate sale and I think it worked out pretty well and looks nice on the wall with my other stitching.
