A Litle Hallowe'en and a little Stitchin'

Gentle Friends, just a quick wish for everyone to have a sane, safe, and wonderful Hallowe'en... and here's a little sampler for this fun Holiday...

"Thine is the Trick or Treat" from Prairie Moon Needlework, with my little changes.  A fun piece I've shown before.

Here is a current snap of where my stitching is on AGW...
...I made a mistake just before I turned the upper right corner and had to go back and frog quite a bit...so instead of nail-biting to see if the border was going to hook up correctly I went ahead and pre-stitched up the line...and bada bing bada boom she matched up so now just going back over and stitching up the rest.  There's a tree a moon and some stars left, a little grass fill and she'll be done.  I think I've almost decided to not do the fill-in around the words... the companion Christmas piece... "A Yuletide Welcome" has no fill I'm leaning towards the "no fill" camp.

Flashback Friday

Gentle Friends, with Hallowe'en upon us I thought I'd pull a piece for the Holiday.  Sherry over at Celtic's Lacing and Whimsical Thoughts and I traded some emails regarding Round Robins ... which got me thinking about a Hollwe'en one I was in a while back... here's a snaperoo...

It was way back in 2008 that this was making the rounds.  I love the Hallowe'en RR, but I must not have ever put any info about the linen or the floss I used...  lost to the mists of time.

A Little Stitchin'

Gentle Friends, so, finally, I have finished up the house... I am now ready to move on... here's a snaperoo...

I just poped it out of the Q-snap and there she lays in a crumpled state... this piece is a really heavy "fill" piece for using up the silk... but I  knew that going in so I'll trudge on.  I made a decision on my Christmas stitch and ordered up some of the missing silks for that.  They should arrive in the next week or so... I'm a happy camper!!  Now on to more border stitching!

Flashback Friday

Gentle Friends, I do love the series of Hawk Run Hollow and have stitched a few of them... let's start off with probably my favorite one...

"Shores of Hawk Run Hollow" - by Carriage House Samplings
8/14/10 - 4/29/12
36ct Vintage Autumn Gold, Called for NPI Silk

I remember this was a piece I stitched off and on for a year and a half, although I loved the stitch often these HRH pieces I'll hit a square that will just burn me out.  When that happens I pop it in the old WIP basket until later.  I made one major change to the "In Memory" square and recharted to stitch in an 18th-century ancestor who was an actual sailor.

A Little Stitchin' and a Little Stash

Gentle Friends, although I worked some on  AGW I was down for the count over the weekend and did next to no stitching for two days.  I felt like crap and did 3 separate covid tests thinking I had finally been struck down, they all were negative and I started feeling better this morning so I'll just post where I left off...

.. still working on the house, and making a little progress.

I'm still on the fence about the next piece to stitch and while I was pulling things together from the old stash pile a while back I noticed how limited I was with the linen I have.  Or I should say the lck of choice from the 40ct pieces.  So I decided to do something about that.  I usually check out a few of the online Stitchy stores and saw that Drema at Needlecraft Corner in Baltimore was having linen of the month subscription so I called joined up and now my first piece has arrived...

wrapped up all cute and festive in Hallowe'en garb...

"Sand Dunes" - Seraphim Hand Dyed Fabric by Laurie. Included in the package were a floss threader, two beading needles, and a short needle (like I like them) in a little tube!! Fun Stuff! It's really lovely linen and I can't wait to see what comes next month.

I had ordered back in February some other linen that I had heard and read great things about on social media and wanted to see for myself.  It took quite a while to come but eventually came a few weeks ago...

... from Needle and Flax, these lovely pieces arrived.  I know the supply chain was wack so it took a long time, but well worth the wait.  The three colors I chose are, on the bottom "Dolly Madison", on the top left "Eastwick" and on the right "Brea."  The photos do not do them justice so you'll just have to take my word for it...

Flashback Friday

Gentle Friends, a piece from the wall of samplers...

... from Just CrossStitch Magazine.  I must have worked on this during the last part of 2008 but finished up in 2009, I think this one is called "This is the Day" ... at least I'm pretty sure it is... I stitched it on 36ct Meadowlark using my own conversion of floss and I framed it in an antique frame I picked up somewhere.

A Little Stitching

Gentle Friends, here's an updated snap on AGW...

... just fill stitching for the time being and with the old thumb slowing me down it'll be another week at least on the house before I can move on...  but them's the breaks.

Flashback Friday

Gentle Friends, looking way back before the Blog even I stitched this...

BBD  "Quaker Garden"
RR Linen 30ct Garden State Java
Called for WDW & GAST

...  I found a reference to this piece in 2007... it's an oldie, "fake" quaker... so to speak.  I think it was even my first Quakeresque thing that I stitched...  but from this was born a love of the Quaker Sampler and I have stitched many since.  Those quakery bits are scatted about the house and in homes of friends and family that I have foisted on as gifts.  When I took it off the wall I could see it is also an early framing job of mine.  Since this was framed I have found I prefer my stitching framed tighter without so much "white" or empty space... but I'll not change it and back up it goes.

The old thumb is getting better but I keep snagging the healing wound on the silk floss when I push the needle up, but I keep going.  So, Monday's update on AGW will be smallish for sure.

Have a super weekend and thanks for stopping by do stop again.  Stay Safe!!

A Little Stitching

Gentle friends, here's a snaperoo of  AGW...

... got a start on the house and am still moving from West to East.....  I think I would have been quite a bit further along but I was chopping up some stuff making chicken salad and stupidly cut the crap out of my thumb...then proceeded to bleed like a stuck hog - oink!!.  This mishap has slowed down the old needle considerably....  but I carry on - slowly but surely!
