A Little Stitchin' and a Little Stash

Gentle Friends, although I worked some on  AGW I was down for the count over the weekend and did next to no stitching for two days.  I felt like crap and did 3 separate covid tests thinking I had finally been struck down, they all were negative and I started feeling better this morning so I'll just post where I left off...

.. still working on the house, and making a little progress.

I'm still on the fence about the next piece to stitch and while I was pulling things together from the old stash pile a while back I noticed how limited I was with the linen I have.  Or I should say the lck of choice from the 40ct pieces.  So I decided to do something about that.  I usually check out a few of the online Stitchy stores and saw that Drema at Needlecraft Corner in Baltimore was having linen of the month subscription so I called joined up and now my first piece has arrived...  

wrapped up all cute and festive in Hallowe'en garb...

"Sand Dunes" - Seraphim Hand Dyed Fabric by Laurie. Included in the package were a floss threader, two beading needles, and a short needle (like I like them) in a little tube!! Fun Stuff! It's really lovely linen and I can't wait to see what comes next month. 

I had ordered back in February some other linen that I had heard and read great things about on social media and wanted to see for myself.  It took quite a while to come but eventually came a few weeks ago...

... from Needle and Flax, these lovely pieces arrived.  I know the supply chain was wack so it took a long time, but well worth the wait.  The three colors I chose are, on the bottom "Dolly Madison", on the top left "Eastwick" and on the right "Brea."  The photos do not do them justice so you'll just have to take my word for it...

A Little Stash

Gentle Friends, I do enjoy buying new stash, whether or not I can ever stitch it is another issue...
but buying some stash keeps me happy.  

Here are the bits I got lately mostly from the recent Nashville Market...

... I picked up the last two sections of this long sampler from Shakespeare's Peddle...  I really like "Jenny's House" ... and now with all the pieces together it'll make a nice project at some point...

... how could I pass on this great sheep sampler from Plum Street.... and the "Quaker" inspired sampler from Needle and Thread is really charming!!... and that's a super-duper border!!

I've also picked up "Littel Birds" from BBD and the 40ct linen to work it - love it!!   - and -  the newest chart in the Noah's Christmas Ark series Llamas and Lovebirds!

I couldn't pass on NeedleworkPress' "Sarah Barker" - another great border!!  At the same time, I snapped up copies of "One Nation" and "Salem Sisters II."

... although there were other BBD designs, these were the four that appealed to me...

love me some BBD!!!

Some Fun Friday Things

Gentle Friends,  a couple of fun things that came in the mail yesterday........

First up would have to be the tangible proof that my trip is coming up........

....  I read over and over on travel boards and postings about Paris -  how much time you could save by buying a ticket on line to visit the Louvre. Early on I thought it might be nice to spend some time walking through the wonderful galleries.  I've visited this great Museum a couple of times int he past, but not for a few years, so it is something I am looking forward to.....  and notice there is "priority access" through the Richelieu Passage for ticket holders - I love circumventing long lines!!!!!

Last Saturday in conjunction with the St Charles Market, Beth over at Heartstring Samplerery, released her 100th chart.....

 called "His Eye is on the Sparrow."  I've been watching with great anticipation her stitching away on the wonderful sampler for the past few months, and couldn't wait to place my order on her Etsy Store!!  It's a piece I can;t wait to start!!!

A Little Stashin'

Gentle Friends, after I posted last night about Jury Duty, I thought, now what will be an interesting Post in the morning......  I've not posted about any new acquisitions to the Stash Heap, we all know has far surpassed the point of SABLE, I was certainly in desperate need of more stash!!!  (can you read the sarcasm there)

  I've really been trying to stitch from stash all year and not bought anything new in a long time..... and since there's not been anything new that lit a fire in the old wallet I've been pretty safe.  But, I do keep a short Wish List of things I would buy if given half a chance.  That Half Chance got the better of me recently and I bought three "new to the heap" things.....

... three charts from BBD, I really like their horizontal pieces and these two have been kicking around on the list for quite a while.  They are on the small side and almost the same size, I was thinking a double sided pillow would be the way to go with them...... and Agnes is just a great chart, so how could I pass.  I got them from Anita's Little Stitches, a new to me shop that was lighting fast in shipping them out AND slipped a little prezzie in the package.... those 28 Bohn needles, now that was super sweet!!!  I bought this great stuff with a super GC I received at Christmas from a stitching Pal,  and thought it was high time I used it for some fun stuff!  So I took the card added some of my own "funnions" et voila, new stash for the heap!!   - and - you know the Smokie, he has to see what's going on in his territory!!

A Little Stash - and - Happy 201st Birthday!!!

Gentle Friends, thanks so much for you kind comments and emails - they are such a wonderful "pick me up" this morning!!

I thought I would show the little goodies of stash I received while away....

"A Little Stash" - from l to r... Praiseworthy Stitches, "Santa's Midnight Ride," BBD Loose Feathers Fourth Pattern- 2012, "The Gift is Small," BBD "Violet's Blue," CCN Santa's Village #3 "North Pole Post Office" and LHN Little Sheep Virtue No. 1 "Hope."  

Now, did I need any more stash, nope, did I want more, yep!!  Will I get to stitching these... hopefully at some point.  I love the border of the PS piece, and I always (or nearly always) love BBD Designs, so I had to have these two.  I will probably collect up the Santa's Village pieces before starting stitching and the Little Sheep Virtues are just too cute to pass on....  and I think I might already have a piece of mystery linen in my clutches that would fit this project, so I may start this series sooner than later.

I stitched some on Miss Mary last night, just some fill stitching in the grass area, not enough to show.

A Little New Stash

Gentle friends I am still stitching away on ATS grass, but I seem to not be stitching as fast as I once could.  I don;t know if it is just me, just feeling blah, or just loosing it altogether.  But ever since my life's upheaval in November I just can't seem to get back on track.  There is still a tom of stuff to do with my mom's Estate and "stuff."  I hope to be able to have most of it cleared up by the end of the month, with the help of my sweet Sister, but who knows how that will end up.  I guess at some point everything will settle back out and get back to normal, or as normal as can be, but until that time I will just keep bumping along.

Even with my piles of things waiting to be stitched I just can not resist getting new "stash" and things, and over the last few weeks I have acquired a few new bits....

Clockwise from top Left...  "The Lord's Blessing" I saw a completed and framed version over on Jill Rensel's's Blog, I loved how it looked and wanted a copy for myself..... The circular Bush chart "Shepard's Earth" really appealed to me, the Homespun Elegance "Christmas Sampler II" will make a great companion to the "Halloween Sampler I."  I had to find then acquire this second copy of "The Sarah Maddock Sampler" as I lost the first copy I got off the Bay of Evil.  This long OOP chart has been on my list to do for the longest time, and I wasn't going to let my misplacing and loosing it stop me from stitching this... at some point in the future!!  And, of course I had to have the BBD "Feast of Friendship" chart, another lovely one from those talented women!!  I also acquired these.....

I do love these Stacy Nash pieces and since I was getting some other things I thought, why not!! and the LHN charts parts I and II of "Santa's Village,"  I was going to get a start on this the first part of the this year, but think I will wait to see how the piece looks on other linen choices, as I have read that the recommended linen "Lambswool" is very light and the whites do not pop as they should....

Some Great Mail

Gentle Readers and Dear Friends thanks so very much for all the kind comments about ATS and what seems like an never ending stitch!!  Not having worked on ATS for a couple of days seems odd, but I know that it is waiting in the Basket when I finish up other pieces.

The mails, while I was away brought some really fun things.....  and in no particular order.....

A while back I won one of the Gift-a-ways that Nancy over at "Victorian Motto" was having, she is so nice and her things are just gorgeous!!!  It arrived and was a real treat to open...

Not only was there a super chart, but the package was filled to overflowing with her lovely hand dyed floss and finishing trim... and those beautiful buttons and bits.

Another package arrived from my stitching friend Vera...  she has been knitting and sent me a super felted Fall bowl...

It is a wonderful vibrant orange and I filled it with some sparkly Autumn bits, it really adds to our Seasonal display!!

I also got  most of the charts I had on order from various places including the Bay of evil....

You can see the November Cottage, need to trade out a couple of colours there, and the new release from Heartstring Samplery "Baby it's Cold Outside" what a great song and wonderful interpretation!!

I also had a sweet surprise from another Stitching friend, Valerie - she remembered how much I love Old Hollywood and sent me ....

A Hollywood Trading Card of one of my favorite musical Stars!! Jane Powell!!

A RAK, an Exchange and some Stash

I had some super mail arrive yesterday.  So in order of arrival........

A few weeks ago I loaned out a little chart from my Heap o'Stash and when the chart was returned there were some goodies along with it...

I love me some cheese straws!!  - and - the hank of silk is simply gorgeous!!  It was so sweet of Vera to send along these treats.  I do know how hard some OOP charts are to find, I never mind helping out other stitchers with a loan of them!!

The other day I showed you the Fall exchange piece that I made and sent off - well, mine arrived yesterday and it's super cute!!!  Marie was partner, her Blog Creative thread is really wonderful and so worth a look!!  Here are a couple of snaps.....

This is the Acorn she made me from Prairie Schooler Book #65, it is stitched 1 over 1 and is just darling.  I love Thanksgiving and the Pilgrims with the little wee Turkey are so great!!!  

Along with the super Acorn were some pretty terrific treats!!  Thank you so much Marie, you did another stupendous job!!!!!!

As you know, I can barely help myself from buying stash.  It's a crazy illness!!  But, I have cut way back, or at least I tell myself that.  A while back I was perusing the Bay of evil and came across a couple of pieces of linen I couldn't resist.....  I also came up against another stitcher "downsizing"  (which I should do )  and couldn't resist a little something there either!!  

The two pieces of linen are from "Stitches and Spice" a company in Australia.  I have never seen nor stitched on this brand.  But, a chart I have calls for some and I have hemmed and hawed over it for a couple of years whether or not to get a piece to work with.  Well, this looked like the opportunity to jump in and so I did - The linen is really lovely and I will not hesitate again about this brand!!  I got a great piece of "Camofudge" and a piece of " Sugar Cane Crunch."  The chart I acquired was a "Pocketbook Needlework" booklet from one of my favorite OOP designers Mary Beale!!

Stashing Part 2

Gentle Readers and Dear Friends thank you so much for you kind comments - I know my system may not be the best, but it seems to work for me.  I did have a couple of questions from the comments and emails and wanted to answer them.  The note pad in my WIPs basket is there for really no good reason.  I do find that it comes in handy when looking at colour conversion, better to lay floss on a white background for me - but I also find I reach for it form time to time to make a note or something.  I do know that I would totally miss it if it wasn't there.  The other question I think came in an email - these binder are all that I will allow myself.  Once completely full that will be my stash limit.....  except with Prairie Schooler, I will have to add a binder for those charts.  I find that by a judicious culling of things every now and again that the stash can sort of stay manageable....

Now for the Linen and Floss - that is a little less organized....

I keep my linen in a closed plastic box thing...

I usually buy linen specifically for a project, one of the main reasons I dearly love going over to Needle in a Haystack in Alameda - the selection is great and I can see a piece in person before the purchase.... but, there times I just buy it because it is a great piece with lovely colour.....hence my linen stash mound......

This is a bad picture as it looks really pink and it should be more beige/brown but you get the idea - I have lots of linen I bought when I was stitching on 32 ct that I will never use as I stitch exclusively on 36ct - and now I have some 40ct I am going to try that!! .... so once I take out all the 32ct there will be more room and this case will not be on the verge of exploding.

For my floss I use this....

It's pretty broken down now, but it was a free thing (thanks Dale) and it works well for "floss keeping."  The top drawer is cotton.....

 I keep all my floss organized alphabetically on rings by Company...  CC, WDW (2 rings) and GAST. I separate the GAST by regular and Sampler Threads.

The middle drawer holds the bulk of my silk....

Again separated onto rings by company... HDF spools and skeins, two fat rings of Belle Soie (you know how I love me some BS) and my misc Ring and bag of everything else, except for all my NPI silk - I keep that separately on two rings in small basket, I think because I usually use NPI only for my CHS Hawk Run Hollow projects.

The bottom drawer is full of extra crap....

This is full of buttons, and all my coloured pins my two glue guns and those wooden frames from Hobby Lobby for BBD projects.  I bought a bunch in Daytona Beach because the closest HL is way down in Morgan Hill - it's easier to get them in Florida and bring them back!!

My DMC I showed a little while back - on bobbins and numerically in order in craft boxes.

That's my stashing - it seems to work for me and I can sort of find things when I need them.  Except last night I totally couldn't find a chart I know I have....  I spent a lot of time tearing through everything, but no luck....  I know it's there somewhere!!So that proves no matter how organized I think I am - it is probably only superficial!!!

I worked some ATS, the vines on either side, I won't bore you with a snap of them.

Stashing and ATS

Gentle Readers and Dear Friends thanks once again for stopping by my little bit of the Blogosphere your kind comments and emails.  I also wanted give a hearty welcome to my new Followers - thanks for joining!!  and to the continued support of my old followers - that really doesn't sound as nice as I want it, but it is early and my brain can't come up with another way to put that!!

I had a question about how I deal with my ever growing piles of stash....  and what a good question.  What works for me is a three fold "Stash" system.  For WIPs and soon to be WIPs - I have a basket by the stitchy chair.... I do not allow more WIPs than can fit in this basket, my rule for sanity.....

..... and here are my WIPs and soon to be WIPs...

Mary Hutton, On the Oregon Trail, CCN Cottages, ATS, AotH, LK ABC's of Christmas, Sampler Wreath and Christmas Markings.....  

My Biggest "organized" area of stash are these 5 inch binders....

Here in my big binders, I have charts organized so that I can wrap my little brain around the heap.  The binder break down is.... 1 binder for Prairie Schooler, 1 binder for Black Bird Designs, 1 Binder for Quaker, the other binders slightly sectioned off by designer...... Mary Beale, Mary Garry, Plum Street, The Primitive Needle, Workbasket, BRD, Brighneedle, CHS, Sheepish Designs and Birds of a Feather.  I also have a misc section which holds mostly samplers.  Then there is this last area.....

This piece of furniture actually has six sections the last two hold un-filed charts, the red and white box are mostly small charts, the plastic file things hold magazines  (not my SANQ). Tomorrow I'll tackle floss and linen.

I finished up the tree on ATS - I only changed one colour -  burnt orange to copper - my burnt orange is almost identical to my nutmeg, and I wanted the snake to stand out.

Tuesday Post

Gentle Readers and Dear Friends not much going on here - I worked some on ATS - got most of the leaves, and fruit completed.  I think that once I'm over this part that the rest will smooth sailing.

The one project that has been sort of an on going thing is a re-shuffling of stash.  I have been culling out charts and linen that I know I will never use and or stitch on and will probably be listing some sale stuff soon.   It is amazing how much my taste seems to have changed and as I continue to go through the heaps of things I have acquired it amazes me how much there is - I know that I have become more discriminating as to what I buy, but in the past I would just get something because I liked it - now I ask some questions first - "Is is a great chart?" - "Is it something I have already or may have something that is similar?" - "Is it something that I can use already stashed fibers with?" - and the most important question now.... "Is is something I might stitch in the future"  I find that often when I ask these questions that I can talk myself out of many purchases!!  Lord knows I am running out of room for "stash Storage."

Yesterday the mail brought me the newest edition of SANQ - and I read it down by the pool -

the weather was really lovely  - with the breeze blowing, the sun shinning  - I could actually wear my lightest sweatshirt. This edition has some terrific info - and some great projects!

A Wonderful Summer exchange and Some Holiday Stash

Gentle Readers and Dear Friends the mail was really very good to me yesterday!!!

As you might remember I am part of a small group of stitchers doing a year long exchange over at Friends Stitching Through the Seasons 2012, and yesterday I received my Summer Package from my partner Karen.  Here is a snap of everything she sent...

In addition to the beautifully stitched and finished Recipe Box, Karen included a couple of fun things....  a Wooly Wily and light up caterpillar.  Inside the box where a set of great molds and a patriotic heart to hang up - and - two lovely pieces of fabric for finsihing!!  Here is a close up of the Box...

It is perfedctlly stitched and the finishing is top notch.  I know this will be a wonderful addition to my kitchen and help corral some of my ever growing pile of recipes!!!  Thank you so much Karen another super duper exchange!!!!

The mail also brought some stash.  Every year Prairie Schooler releases new patterns for the Fall/Winter Season and this years additions I could not resist - I do love me some PS!!!!

In addiition to the New PS charts I got a couple of OOP Charts I won off the Bay of Evil...  both BoF Hallowe'en charts and both totally cute!!  I have been after these for a while and now they are mine!!!

I think my favorite of the new PS charts would have to be "O Christmas Tree" I really like the 12 Days of Christmas ornaments - and know they will have to be stitched up!!  I also really like the new idea of Hallowe'en Cards, like the annual Santa Cards

Some Stitching and Some Stashing

Gentle Readers and Dear Friends I think the Mal Ware issue is finally cleared up - I have to give a big old THANK YOU to DaffyCat for finding the offending little bit and pointing it out to me - I certainly couldn't find it...  I did try and try again, but no luck....  now I hope that everything is back on an even keel!

I have been steadily stitching away on Mary Ann the last couple of nights and last night I thought would be no different - how wrong I was!  After dozing off and waking up about 6 or so times after dinner I hauled her out and snapped her into the old Q-snaperoo and was going to work on the second line of verse....  well, I counted and stitched and looked and counted again - and the "w" just was not where it was supposed to be.  

The other night after I stitched the "vine" bit along the top  - I found that in no way shape or form was it even  - it jumps from 7 to 8 back to 7  stitches all along the way.....  A light bulb went off might the sides follow that non-conformist stitching pattern??  I went back and re-counted the vine going down the left side - where I was counting off to set the "w" in place.  I found that in my haste, or numb scullery, I stitched the vine sections all at 7 up the 7 down then 7 up then - you get the picture....... or a picture is worth a 1000 words....

So it was a frog type evening - and all the stitching had to come out, I hate to waste the silk but what had to be done had to be done...... out came the vine, the flower bits and the leaves - this early in the game better to make it right than to fudge it later on!

December 1989 Mary Beale "Notebook," Lavender and Lace "Mother's Tree," Pineberry Lane "Christmas Tide," and I won a great piece of Stash from Doris - Ewe and Eye and Friends "Napa Valley Sampler."

Another Stitching Fix

Gentle Readers and Dear Friends thanks so much for you super comments about yesterdays post!!  I really enjoyed reading them. 

The Marie Antoinette reference is one I really like - and Yes, I am sure that the Chucks were there in the scene as just a little nod to the present - The 2006 "Marie Antoinette" is lots of fun and worth a viewing - one the more interesting aspects is Sophia Coppola's, (the Writer/Director of the film) use of modern music against 18th visuals - ingenious!!  There are of course historical issues here and there and some telescoping of time, but overall a very good effort

There is an earlier film also called "Marie Antoinette" - 1938 - starring Norma Shearer as MA...

A sumptuous film  - there is lots of over the top acting with some glaring historical mistakes.....  but a really super film from the "Golden Age" - it is a wonderful to see just what could be accomplished by MGM when they set out to make a super Prestige Film.

I would recommend both of these film highly and encourage anyone interested to see them!!

The mail brought me some charts I had been waffling about for about 1/2 a minute..

From left to right...  "And All Was for An Appil."  This is one that I have been wanting for a few years - I have seen quite a few completed versions and every time I do I want it all over again.  It is not something I would typically like, I really do not care for A&E samplers - this would be only the second one in my entire stash, it is a bit on the cartoonish side, also something I do not care foe... but I REALLY like this entire piece, go figure!!  I only ordered the chart not the whole kit from Scarlet Letter - I wanted to choose my own linen and silks.  I spent time pulling the DMC's last night to see what the palette looks like and the colours seem a bit on the dull side in comparison to the snap - which is Soie d' Alger silks....  I am leaning towards silks but not Soie d'Alger.  The second chart is a new one that I had to have - from Paulette over at Plum Street Sampler it is called "Brother's Keeper."  A really wonderful piece that should be a great stitch... and the final chart I won off the Bay of Evil - an OOP Teresa Wentzler caller "Tradewinds."  I saw this and just had to have it - enough said!

It's an Addiction

Gentle Readers and Dear Friends another wet, windy day here in the City by the Bay.  I guess the weather folks on the TeeVee (thanks Spinster) have actually predicted this storm correctly!!  I think that my weekend will totally be a "Stay at home" type......  although.....  I do have a list of four breakfast places that have been recommended to me.... hmmmmmm  what to do???  Fight the weather for some delicious pancakes????  Probably!  Who knows what tomorrow will bring!

Yesterday the mails brought some wonderfully delicious stash.  I know this hobby is a total addiction and I have way too much stash for 6 stitchers to stitch up in a lifetime, but how can one resist!!  I reached SABLE so long ago that there is no looking back.  I do however keep my acquisitions to a minimum and don't by everything that tickles my fancy, thank goodness.  Here's a snap...

Starting at the top - the four most recent PS releases - I really love Prairie Schooler and have quite a complete collection of charts - thanks to the evil of Bay!  I also like most of the LaD Da charts and thought these would work up great.  The "Peter and Peep" just hit me as a great Easter chart - "Antique Animal Sampler" is just charming - there are a couple of animals that I am not too sure what they might be, but with a colour correction when I eventually get to stitching will fix that - and - "Counting Sheep"  too cute!!!!  There are a few more things that I am circling and will probably break down and get - but for the moment this little bit is just enough.

I stitched a bit more of the Quaker RR last night - which will finish up this weekend and I'll have out in the mail on Monday morning.  I totally forgot how much I really enjoy a Quaker RR......  I am thinking I need to get another one together - any takers???

A RAK, Some Satsh, A Finish and a Start

Gentle Readers and Dear Friends Friday passed and now I am back to my new computer on Monday morning.  Hoping that things go much smoother today and that I can actually function at a level higher than a saltine cracker!!

Last week I was sent a really lovely RAK from another stitcher...

I had been looking at this chart for a long time - I do love a red bird - and you can't get more red-birdier than this wonderful sampler.  Included in the RAK was a wonderful Stitchville bag - Thank you so much Evie!!  Your kindness just made last week so nice!!!!  You gotta love her note card!!

About 10 or so days ago 123 Stitch was having a sale on Christmas things- and since I was in the Holiday mood and I needed a couple of skeins of floss - I thought what the heck - and got a bit o' stash along with my few skeins of floss - I also picked up the newest Blackbird Loose Feathers  - Part I.  One of the pieces I got I have been circling for a few years like a drooling vulture -  the LK ABC's of Christmas.  I have resisted this piece because I just hated that it came pre-kitted.  I personally prefer to get just the chart as I will usually change up a colour or two.  Since i first saw it and was so stubborn about buying the kit -  I have searched all over the net to find just the chart, but they never come up. Since this was on sale I finally decided to break down and so I picked up the kit.  I also got a couple of PS charts to keep filling out the collection - and speaking of Prairie Schooler I saw that the newest 4 charts have been released - of course I really like them and will get them, but I do think that they are looking mighty familiar/similar to as some very recent past charts.....  makes me wonder??

My new start is a small little sampler I have had in my stash for years.  The 12 Blessings of Christmas by Lizzie Kate.  I first saw these little Flip-its and had to have them,.  It is not so much that I am a fan of LZ but sometimes she puts out something that just hits a note with me and these did the trick!!  I have been meaning to stitch them up but just never got around to it - so Saturday afternoon I found a piece of 36ct creamy linen in the heap that the whole piece would fit, changed up some of the colours and made this little start.

Not much else over the weekend, no sales only a little shopping at the Going out of Business sale that Borders is having.  I'll save that little tid-bit for tomorrow.
