On the 12th day of Christmas....

GR&DF another week passes and we speed head long into Christmas. I read something a while back and have it tacked to my already crowded 3'x5' cork board thing here at work - a Christmas mantra so to speak.... "It's about presence not presents." I really like that little statement..... and even though there are quite a few little things I am sending out into the world - I am keeping it homey and simple.

Enough of that - I had a small finish last night that relates to today's post title - it is a little chart that I worked on over the last couple of days - here's a snap -

It is the December Freebie chart from The Sampler Girl - I think its charming. I love the song the 12 Days of Christmas!! I think the reason for the loveof the song is that in that in 4th Grade at Marlton ElementarySchool we sang it as a round - I was 7 Swans a'swimming. What a crazy memory!! It is charted for DMC and GAST - I shifted all the floss to Belle Soie Silks - I used Creme de Menthe, Teddy Bear, Poison Apple and Mud Pie - I will try and get it finished into an ornament for the tree over the weekend - Thank you Tanya!!!!

Last night was the first Thursday evening of Christmas flickers on TCM - they started it off with "A Christmas Carol" - 1938 - starring Reginald Owen, Gene Lockhart, Kathleen Lockhart and their daughter June Lockhart - the only film where all three family members appear. I like this version of ACC and it is certainly worth seeing - 3rd viewing of this version since September...yes, I am addicted to this story!! This was followed by "Little Women" - 1949 - starring June Alyson, Elizabeth Taylor, Mary Astor, Margaret O'Brien, Janet Leigh, Rossano Brazzi, and Lucile Watson. Again and very nice version of the this story but I really prefer the 1933 version with Katharine Hepburn and Joan Bennett. I followed up these two flicks with a Netflix Pix.... "Rome Adventure" - 1962 - starring Suzanne Pleshette, Troy Donahue, Angie Dickinson and Rossano Brazzi. A typical love triangle type story told with gorgeous Italy as a backdrop. I found myself clock watching so that tells me it was on the long side and some of the scenes should have been tightened up a bit. A fun film if you have the time.

There you go sports fans!!! Have a great weekend and do come again!!!

Take care,
edgar

  1. Woah--lightning stitcher! Seems like she just posted that freebie yesterday! 'Tis the season, I suppose.

I like your "inspirational saying". I heard (a bit harsher) one that said something like "Stop buying things they don't want or need for people you don't even like."

Kinda true; our American Christmas observance has gotten to be so commercial! I'm thinking of making cookies for everyone--just what they need! An Extra pound or two! :P Well, snickerdoodle cookies are worth it, IMHO

  2. Beautiful finish! I also remember singing that song as a round in school. How funny!

I love TCM, especially this time of year. They always show such great old films. The music, the sets, the costumes...wow! Why can't Hollywood produce movies like that anymore? Oh well...

  3. Lovely finish Edgar, I have that one on my 'to stitch' list.
Very nice sentiment too for this time of year, and one that i think more people than ever will appreciate this year with the way the economy has been.
    Have a great weekend x

  4. I like your Christmas mantra, helps to remember the reason for the season.
That is a super cute ornament. I’m off to go get the chart.
Edgar, you are such a focused stitcher it's amazing how many finishes you have. I really enjoy see all you get accomplished.
I'm still hoping to get some stitching for our tree done before the Christmas. LOL (Lots Of Luck)
I too watched Little Women last night but I couldn't remember June Alyson's name. I remembered all the other names but hers escaped me. OMG I was 8 when that came out. Eekk.

  6. I love your version of Tanya's design! You are right, her designs are so charming. This is a must stitch for me before Christmas too.

My all time favorite Christmas movie is on Saturday night. I don't know if you like White Christmas, but if you do it's on AMC at 8 EST.

    Have a great weekend!

  9. Love your finish! You always do such nice conversions. I agree about the Little Women Katherine Hepburn version -- that's my favorite too.

  10. As every good Mawrtyr (graduate of Bryn Mawr College, Hepburn's alma mater) knows, it's KathArine. That said, it's my favorite version too. (Though I do think the Ryder version has its merits.) Not just because of Ms. Hepburn. When we were little, my mom would sign our Christmas gifts from "Marmy." (We never called her that during the year; it was a special nod to LW.)

  14. Lovely stitching, of course!! You speak of flicks to which I can relate! Rome Adventure made me fall in LOVE with Troy Donahue. I was a mere child, laying on the new brown Naugahyde sofa, nibbling on the arm ...did I EVER get my hide tanned for that... Anyway, one of my faves. Madame X, oh - Imitation of Life - they'd let me watch anything!
