Monday Morning Musings

Dear Friends we are together again..... we had a very low key weekend here in San Francisco. So low key I was in sweats most of it and loving every second!! I wanted to start off today by showing you the LF Mystery Sampler finish - I think it turned out very nice. There are a few changes - floss colours, additions and a few subtractions, but overall I am very happy. Here is a snap -

The only glaring thing missing are two letters - I guess them to be initials - on either side of the basket in the last panel. I already put my initials in the second panel and think it overkill to put them on again. I could put the date? What are your thoughts????

The weekend started off Friday evening IM'ing with Dale - we found that both of us were "broker than mules." Now just how broke is that you might ask - I haven't got a clue but I like the saying! The no funds coupled with the no estate or garage sales meant I was reduced to running errands on Saturday morning. Let me show you the gorgeous sky on Friday evening...looking north over Noe Valley...

The little light is a car cresting the hill of Castro Street as it descends into Now Valley. Now turning to the left we get a great view of....

of Sutro Tower being engulfed in the fog blanket of Summer. Saturday morning found the fog so thick you couldn't see down into Noe Valley at all. This burned off by noonish, but it is one of the nice things about the city. We ran errands - mostly shopping - and picked up these lovelies -

It is cherry season and they are simply delicious!!!! I really can not stand any "cherry flavoured" anything - it just makes me gag, but real fresh cherries are a weakness. They are super good this year and a treat for summer. We also got the car washed - now I could care less if the car ever got washed, but Rico likes a clean car and bitches if it isn't - so we got the car washed after having it pretty filthy for many months - you gotta give in sometimes!!!

Here is an updated snap of the pidgelettes -

They are both standing up and shuffling about - and they are getting to be pudgy little pidgelettes!! Their feathers are really coming thick but they are still very vulture-ugly and both have acquired the mama stink eye!

That's about it for the weekend - :)

Thanks you for stopping by and the sweet comments about dear little Aaliyah.

Take care,
edgar

  1. The finish is just stunning! I really have to see if I have enough designs to put together this sampler! Just lovely and I think the date would be the perfect touch!

Your pidglets are adorable! Isn't it fun to watch the babies grow up!

  2. What a stunning finish to your sampler! If it were mine I wouldn't add a thing. I think it looks perfect the way it is.

You had a gorgeous sky, and the cherries look delicious. Those pidgeletts do look like tiny vultures!

I only visited two garage sales this weekend, but what a haul! I found a wooden DMC thread box!

  3. I think the date is a good choice for mystery sampler. :)

Pidgelets have the "same head" as before, but a different body, lol. Guess the feathers come in last on the head. I wonder what will become of the third egg!

I agree with you entirely on cherry-flavour vs fresh cherries. I have a big weakness for white cherries, as well.

  4. Your finish is gorgeous! Congrats.

I also have baby birditis at my home. A nest of barn swallows that have now flown away and left me with the most enormous pile of bird poop to clean up - I kid you not!

  5. Edgar, your Mystery Sampler is incredible. Definitely add the date by the basket - 10 or 20 years down the line you will not remember when you stitched it!

Must admit I don't like pigeons - dirty noisy birdies!

  6. Lovely stitchy!! I agree that the date would be the way to go. Some day you (or one of your "heirs"..haha) will want to know when you stitched this. Who knows it might end up being another Mary Wigham for future stitchers and the date will be important :)

  7. Another lovely finish! I agree w/Carol, maybe the date on either side of the basket. Been enjoying watching the baby pidgeons but just discovered the name for a baby pidgeon is squab. That won't ever be on my dinner plate after having watched these little guys for so long. Wonder how soon before they fly the coop?

  8. Your sampler is gorgeous, well done. Why not put Rico's initials by the basket?

  9. Edgar, the sample is magnificent! I'm in such awe of the amount of work that you do and its excellence. I'd do the date, I think. I'm envious of your ability to stitch while you watch movies. I need to remove my glasses to stitch, and I need my glasses to watch the screen, so there you go. Even bifocals don't do it for me. Thanks also for these lovely photos and for following the pidgies for us.

  10. Great finish Edgar! I like how it looks now but the initials would be a great touch too...to remember when it was stitched! No need to repeat initials.

The pidgelets look kind of scary! Sounds like you had a nice weekend...love those cherries!

I'd definitely add the date too!

Yummy fruit!! and nice pidglet pic!

  12. I think it is just so lovely as is, Edgar! I would never have noticed anything amiss, if you hadn't drawn my attention to it! What a fab finish!

So glad you had a relaxing weekend!

  13. Wow the sititching is just wonderful... I hope I get to see it in person sometime soon. Adding the date is good... or R. G.?

Those chicks are sure cute/ugly. You are so right about the stink eye.

  14. I love your sampler. It looks grand. And if you feel that part needs something... I like the idea of the year. Beautiful work.

  15. Oooo, the sampler is amazing! I'd stitch the date, myself.

Mmmm, fresh cherries! I detest cherry flavoring ~ cough syrup ~ gag!

  16. Edgar, were you so broke you couldn't pay attention? (one of my favorite sayings LOL)

Your finish is just gorgeous. Those cherries look fabulous - we picked peaches here on Saturday and man there is just nothing like fresh fruit.

  17. Edgar I love your BBD mystery sampler. How can I get the charts? Your stitching is absolutely gorgeous. But, I want to know when you sleep. How can you get so much stitching done when you watch all those old movies.

  18. Your Mystery Sampler came out beautiful, I would not have even noticed the blank area if you had not pointed it out. But since you did, LOL, why not balance it with some of the little 4 and 5 stitch motifs that are just above the blue quilt stars in that same panel. You could scatter them any way that you like and the colors and design will be seemless. Pictures are lovely thanks for sharing, CJ ok;-)

  19. Edgar - breathtaking is the only word I can find to describe this sampler! It's just wonderful! I love the pic of cherries and am reminded of Mary Engelbreit's take on the quote "Life is a bowl of cherries" - "Life is a chair of bowlies!" ha ha ha I must admit the pidgelets are not the most attractive baby birds. You would love the view out of my family room windows - the ligustrum (sp?) is full of juvenile cardinals, wrens and hummingbirds along with their watchful parents. They are such fun to watch!

  20. congrats on the finish. How you are with cherries is how I am with peaches. I love them but hate anything that is peach flavored.

  21. It's beautiful! You've already got initials in the second panel and the year in the fourth so, unless it'll annoy you I'd agree with Nancy in the second comment and not add a thing. If you really think it needs something, why not add a few of the tiny stars and flowers the same as those above the blue stars above the birds? Lovely work.

  22. Sorry - just realised Old Yankee Stitcher has already suggested the same thing. It's realy morning here in Wales, I'm not awake yet!

  23. Such an awesome finish, Edgar! The date seems the right thing to do...or your birth date and the stitched date below the pot. Beautiful work.
    Hugs, Deb

  24. The date would be nice in the sampler, but how about Rico's initials? Then it could be a "family piece". I've seen many antique samplers where the stitcher includes family initials.
Lovely photos! Those little pidgies are getting a bit cuter...but what baby animal is not cute in some way? They're so ugly it's actually cute.

  25. Gorgeous finish!! I love this pattern- I had not seen it before. As for the basket- I didn't even notice anything was missing but if it's bothering you maybe put the year finished? Just a thought that has probably already been mentioned here.. lol I love your blog- going to add you to the blog list on my blog!
