Another Stitching Fix

Gentle Readers and Dear Friends thanks so much for you super comments about yesterdays post!!  I really enjoyed reading them.

The Marie Antoinette reference is one I really like - and Yes, I am sure that the Chucks were there in the scene as just a little nod to the present - The 2006 "Marie Antoinette" is lots of fun and worth a viewing - one the more interesting aspects is Sophia Coppola's, (the Writer/Director of the film) use of modern music against 18th visuals - ingenious!!  There are of course historical issues here and there and some telescoping of time, but overall a very good effort

There is an earlier film also called "Marie Antoinette" - 1938 - starring Norma Shearer as MA...

A sumptuous film  - there is lots of over the top acting with some glaring historical mistakes.....  but a really super film from the "Golden Age" - it is a wonderful to see just what could be accomplished by MGM when they set out to make a super Prestige Film.

I would recommend both of these film highly and encourage anyone interested to see them!!
____________

The mail brought me some charts I had been waffling about for about 1/2 a minute..

From left to right...  "And All Was for An Appil."  This is one that I have been wanting for a few years - I have seen quite a few completed versions and every time I do I want it all over again.  It is not something I would typically like, I really do not care for A&E samplers - this would be only the second one in my entire stash, it is a bit on the cartoonish side, also something I do not care foe... but I REALLY like this entire piece, go figure!!  I only ordered the chart not the whole kit from Scarlet Letter - I wanted to choose my own linen and silks.  I spent time pulling the DMC's last night to see what the palette looks like and the colours seem a bit on the dull side in comparison to the snap - which is Soie d' Alger silks....  I am leaning towards silks but not Soie d'Alger.  The second chart is a new one that I had to have - from Paulette over at Plum Street Sampler it is called "Brother's Keeper."  A really wonderful piece that should be a great stitch... and the final chart I won off the Bay of Evil - an OOP Teresa Wentzler caller "Tradewinds."  I saw this and just had to have it - enough said!
_____________

There are storms and wind and rain, oh my!!.... predicted for this weekend again.....  so some serious NB is in my immediate future!!

That's about it for today sports fans, thanks for stopping by, do stop again!

Take care,
edgar

  1. I completely sympathize with the fact that you have wanted a certain chart for a long while and have only now ordered it. There is a Cedar Hill chart that I covet, the Berry Patch Rabbit, that I know I have to order some time soon but it's hard to justify aother purchase when I have so much on hand right now. But I can't fault you for picking up a Teresa Wentzler chart ... it goes without saying that those are always worth the purchase price.

  2. I do like your comments on all the movies. I am not much for movies but I have watched a few based on your comments and have not been disappointed.

Great stash. I have a few charts on my wish list that have been there for years and I am thinking of purchasing. With the extra pressure the industry seems to be under right now, I am concerned that the designer will retire and the charts will go OOP (hmmmm amazing what I can justify!!)

  5. Great find on the stash - I am currently working on TW's Tradewinds - another stitcher decided to convert the mermaids in the borders to be stitched over 1 - here are the links to her conversions if you are interested. Can't wait to see your progress!

  6. I'm looking forward to watching Marie Antoinette. Saving it for the perfect day. Love the stash! I have the AAWFAA started, but for some reason I just can't get into it. I'm hoping I will get back to it someday. And Brother's Keeper you know I love. I hope to stitch it for myself someday! Love Theresa Wentzler!

  7. Enjoy your new stash! I am not a TW lover (too complicated for me), but the other 2 patterns are great - plus you're stitching the TW, not me :) Have a great weekend.

  8. Looks like another stitching and baking weekend!
My question: I always love your photos of the farmers'
markets. Do you ever get a chance to visit the ones
in Chinatown? I would think that they would be quite unique and interesting.
    Have a great weekend!

    1. China Town is way over on the other side of town from where I live and or work - and parking is quite difficult. For Chinese veg's and fruits I can find all the same things down in the Sunset area - there is a heavy Chinese population there so most of the markets cater to this taste... and I can find parking.. :)

  17. You picked up some great stash Edgar. I do know what you mean about AAWFAA. There is something about that piece that draws you back. It wasn't my normal stitching thing either, but I love how mine is coming along (although slow.......very slow!).

  18. Caught up on your blogging today - and whew, two weeks or so have been busy for you. Love the orange shoes...they are so cool. I have some that have chalk like drawing on them (couldn't tell in your shoe shot if you had them too). I love the bunny bowl - almost looks like he's had enough eating the candy-goodness and is trying to get out. I feel like that after Easter! Your stitching, as usual, is awesome. I am missing the needle and thread the past month - been taking care of my Mom - she's in the hospital. I haven't framed my Mystery Sampler but have it finished - wasn't that a fun stitch?!

  19. Edgar, I enjoy reading your posts, I find them very interesting. I am not into movies but if I was, I would certainly be taking your advice about some of them. Thank you for sharing.

    Louise

PS, Your orange/nectarine shoes are just too cool.
