A Prize Arrives

GR&DF thank you again for stopping by and commenting - yesterdays comments where very nice. I love the acquisition of fun new stash and the shimmery colours of silk. The Belle Soie Ring had a skein of each of the colours I have so far collected - I added 12 new colours to this ring.

The mail brought me the prize from Sharlotte's Drawing - it was a mystery what would come - and what arrived was super!! Here is a snap -

It is a wonderfully finished Patriotic stocking from BBD. I really like these stocking and have all the patterns, but am just to ill at ease with the finishing to attempt the stitching of one - oh well some day I am sure. Thank you so much Sharlotte!!

Last night we ran out to the Mall to get Rico a new shirt and tie for an upcoming work event. While we where out there we stopped off in the "food court" for dinner - and had a yummy but not the healthiest dinner at Hot Dog on a Stick - love the limeade and fries. We also got a cheese on a stick - pepper jack - and that was another stingy deliciousness!! I also picked up one of my favorite mags -

Just a bonanza of royal info and fun facts every month - I know I'm crazy but it is so interesting - what about the current scandal with Sarah that's going on now????

The flicker last night was "Never so Few" - 1959 - starring Frank Sinatra, Gina Lollobrigida, Peter Lawford and Steve McQueen. Set on the China-Burma Border during WWII Sinatra plays an OSS (Office of Strategic Services) Officer in charge of Kachin Natives that harass and disrupt the Japanese. Here is the trailer for the film -

The trailer makes the film look exciting with a story line. In reality the story is very disjointed and bounces back and forth from jungle warfare to Gina's heaving bosom cloaked in gorgeous but not very period gowns. I was amazed at director John Sturges attempt at showing as much cleavage as possible - I guess it was a deflection for the deplorable dialogue and love story bits. This was a pretty bad film all around and lasted for just over 2 hours - I would skip it.

That's about it for the week - thanks for stopping by - do come again!!

Take care,
edgar

  2. Glad you like the stocking Edgar and you are so very welcome!! I love following the royals but they do get themselves in all kinds of troubles don't they? Guess they are human just like the rest of us. Did you see the video footage of Sarah's conversation with the undercover guy? Man oh man! Wonder what Andrew's thinking now!

That dinner!! Okay I usually could go for a hotdog, but hubby had few skimpy weeks at work and we ate a lot of them . I think I've had my fill for a while! LOL. So interesting all of the eateries at the malls and my how quickly they come and go!

    Gina Lollobrigida...now that's a name I haven't heard in a long time!!

Have a great and safe weekend!!

  4. The patriotic stocking is a wonderful surprise! Sharlotte did a beautiful job of stitching and finishing.

I'm collecting these patterns too Edgar. Don't be intimidated by the finishing. I made one last Christmas, and the instructions make it very easy. They are really fun!

  5. What a beautiful prize you got! And that Majesty magazine -- I've never seen it. I wonder if I can find it around here. Poor Fergie -- what was she thinking?! Argh!

  6. Edgar,

I know how to sew but am too lazy to do it. An easy finish for the stockings is to use pinking shears and cut the stitched piece out, cut a felt shape of a stocking a little bit bigger, and glue the stiched stocking to the felt stocking. Add a hanger. An easy fix if you can live with the glue.

  7. Thanks for answering my question about the Belle Soie, Edgar.

That's a great win from Sharlotte! Wow! I think you'd do just fine finishing the stockings--I can personally vouch for your finishing! ;) It's just great!

I do like a deep-fried corn dog. Now you've got me wanting one, and I'm not even sure where to get it around here. :)

  8. What a great surprise from Sharlotte!! I jumped into my first exchange by saying I would do Sharlotte's BBD Stocking Exchange -what was I thinking - I've never finished one!! I figured this was the way to make myself get over my fear and just do it!!

  9. wonderful prize! I, too, am finished-challenged. I am trying a little bit here and there, but with a huge lack of confidence. Love your estate finds the other day. I have been searching for frogs since my friend Terri (chocolates for breakfast blog) brought one all prettied up with scissors to an auction at a guild to which we both belong...I have confidence I will find one soon! Have a great weekend.

  14. Omg..I used to be such a royal pain..er, follower, living in England. I have several years of Majesty magazine from probably almost 30 years ago. I used to devour those things. Beautiful stocking! LUCKY!

  15. Congratulations on your prize! It is lovely! Sometimes I get tired of all the drama with the Royals but I do look forward to William and Kate's wedding. I wonder if it will be as big a fan fare as his mom and dad's!
