A Little Finish and a Little Start

Gentle Friends, so I have finally finished up the stitching on a Deleware Inspiration... I made some big changes along the sides... here is a snap...

The changes I made are pretty substantial... I added to the lower part of the center box - the over one grapevine on the right and the lower vine of red flowers which replaces and box for the name and date.  I also replaced the bunches of goldenrod made with french knots that would have appeared on either side of the box with the ladybugs and holly.  I initially stitched the bunch of goldenrod on the right side, I really hated it, so "knotty" and just not how I wanted this piece to look... so I frogged and snipped all the dozens of knots out and extended the roses into the space left open.  I am MUCH happier with the result and wish I had made the decision to stitch roses in the first place. Oh well, live and learn.

Recommended Floss

Not much of a start but you get the idea.  It's a small piece so should stitch up fast.  Already looking ahead and have narrowed things to a few choices - just need to see if I have a piece of linen that I'll like and will fit and what floss I have or will need to get.

 Gentle Friends, I finished up the over one section, thank goodness.  It seemed to take the longest time, but whatever, it's now done, and now to finish up the rest of the central block.... here's a snap...

... I think that not only the blue chickens but the motto or verse is what really sold me on this sampler...

... I'm even too lazy to pop off all the Q-snaps... oh well, you get the idea.  I like my recharting of the grapes on the right and once the over-one is all done this area will look nice.  Then I will get to the recharted band I created under all this and hope for the best...

... after stitching away on the grapes and leaves and I couldn't take any more "over-one" I moved over and started on the satin stitch fill around the border and got a bit of that done...

A Little Stitchin'

 Gentle Friends, still stitching away on ADI and I've started a bit near the bottom... here's a snaperoo..

I don't think I've ever given voice to the fact that within the middle square space - where the bands are that I was never fully engaged with that part of the chart or this sampler.  That was what kept me from getting this project a long time ago.  I am all for the blue chickens - woohoo!!!  ... and that's what pushed me over the edge and me now stitching away on this sucker, but the part just under all the over one grape arbor and motto... not happy with that in the least.  It looks and feels clunky and that extra box with my name - me no likey!  So... all this time I've been thinking about what could I stitch or re-work or just chart to fill this space and it's a pretty big space.  I've looked a literally 100's of samplers from the late 18th and early 19th centuries - nothing from anywhere jumped out as a fix.  However now I think I've figured it out and have a solution....  I'll ruminate on it a bit before I let loose and just keep stitching away.  BTW that space between the two ladybugs and that bit of holly....  that's for goldenrod - all french knots - not my favorite - so I'll let that go for the moment also!!

... getting the holly and the peach blossoms stitched was a nice bit to accomplish this week...I made a huge counting error on the right side with the top two blossoms... which in turn caused quite a bit of frogging but eventually got back on track!

A Few Little Roses

Gentle Friends, starting in the upper left corner, as I am wont to do... I got busy stitching the bunch of roses... there are roses like this in each corner of the main body of the sampler ... here's a snap...

...  Belle Soie is great silk to use and I have always liked using it to stitch.  I know the name was dropped but I'm pretty stubborn (surprise, surprise) and will continue to call it that.  Now on to the next bunch of flowers!

A Little Start for the New Year and a Last Snap of Christmas...

Gentle Friends, I had kitted up a few projects anticipating a start once I finished up the SAL and my Christmas piece...I started one of them and got a bit stitched and became less enthused with the linen with every stitch...so I frogged that sucker all out, put the linen back into stash, and couldn't come up with a replacement from the pile, so I moved on to the next piece... I'll get back to the first one, after a trip over the Bay to Needle in a Haystack for a piece of linen that will work for the piece... here's a snaperoo of the piece I did start... a sampler...

I've gotten the border structure in, the fill for triangles is Butterscotch and I'll get to that later on...  I really enjoyed stitching "Sojourner" the Califonia Sampler from HEEW... and who can resist the blue chickens that are on this one!!

On New Years Day Rico and I headed over to St Ignatius Church to get a look at the Christmas decorations before they come down... it's a lovely church and was once again beautifully decorated for the Season!!  Here's a snap...
