"Knocka, Knocka, Knocka, clunk Thud!!"

Gentle Friends our weekend was a whir of crazy trauma and then triumph......... it started off normal... Saturday morning off to Noah's for bagels and coffee, then on to Safeway for the weekly grocery shopping..... and then out to the "shops".....   after all the fun and on the way home through the Castro and up over the hill and down into Noe Valley, the car (our 16 year old car) starting making clicking noises and then all of a sudden loud knocking , click - thud - stop - the last leg of the car finally gave out.  After pushing it out of the intersection and into a parking spot I called Rico and he walked down the hill - I was within 4 blocks of getting home - we decided then and there to not put more money into fixing it and to finally get a new car.
I spent the evening and until about 12:30 am reading reviews and doing research on the car I wanted. Sunday morning dawned bright and early and off we went, via the bus, to look and hopefully get a car..... after about 3 hours we were driving home with our new car.......

.... it's a 2013 Mini Cooper, the colour is Metallic Iced Chocolate.  Our other sad car we decided to donate to the SPCA and I am arranging that today.  It's great to have a reliable car again!!

That's about it for today sports fans, thanks for stopping by!!

Take care,

  3. If you are a Tom Petty fan, Mike Campbell has a shelter called Rock the Dogs where they auction off leftover tour pics, t-shirts, programs and even jewelry is made from used guitar strings and auctioned. They are from Gainesville, Fl. Thought you might like to know there's some Florida boys in California helping the puppies too!

  8. What a gorgeous car! Congrats, Edgar! Now, like all new car owners, you will be looking for parking spots far away from anyone who might dare to scratch your baby! ;-) Have fun zooming around!

  9. Ugh, I know the feeling of not wanting to pour any more money into a car; doing that right now. What a cute little car, though! Good on gas mileage, I imagine. Congrats!

  10. I've been a Mini owner for as long as I can remember (I even had one of the old originals which look tiny nowadays). They are such fun to drive and so easy to park - I hope you enjoy many happy miles Edgar.

  12. Great car choice Edgar! I guess great minds think alike! My wife and I picked up a 2010 Mini Cooper on 28 December. It only had 38,000 miles on was hard not to walk away. It is truly a fun car to drive. Congratulations again to you and Rico.

  14. OK, Edgar, we are in the same position -- I'm just waiting for my car to do the same thing. Please please give me your impressions of the Mini. I've always been scared to buy one cause of the reliability issues. Is that better now? Are they more reliable than in the past? Reliability is so important to me, but I love Mini Coopers! I want one so badly. lol! Could you advise me?? Thanks! Looooove your new car!! Sooo much! Congrats!

  21. OMG, love the new car. It's so cute and the color is fantastic. Have fun with it. It's such a relief to not be worrying about an old car. I am still in love with my little SUV and it'll be 3 in April. Hard to believe that already! Happy New Year!

  25. I keep putting you in my reader and then it never sticks! Luckily I see your blog named on other blogs! I am having car troubles too. My biggest complaint is that when the temps drop, my car gets frozen/frosty on the INSIDE of the windshield! Which is really hard to defrost and makes me late! So I have taken to stuffing plastic bags against the edge of the window, wayyy down at the bottom. Not a fun thing to do, but it works! Congrats on the new car! Hopefully it will work great on our hills!
