A Little Low Tide

Gentle Friends, we went to dinner at the Moss Beach Distillery (about 25 miles south of SF) a little while back and I forgot to post a snaperoo...

... the tide was very low exposing lots of the rocky beach... you can't really tell from my photo but where the grass ends there is a drop-off of about 30+ feet straight down to the beach.  It was a lovely calm evening on the Pacific.  Thanks for stopping by, do stop again!

A Little Stitchin', Cookin' and Blue Skies!

Gentle Friends, I think I'll post today instead of tomorrow with some snaps...  first up is CTA...

... as you can see I've gone back and made some stitching changes... one of the things that had been bothering me about this piece was the seagulls.  I've live my whole life near the sea and I can't remember ever seeing all-white seagulls.  I didn't care for them as charted but I was stitching away on them and so left them alone.  Then I got reading over on the Facebook SAL and how other stitchers have dealt with them and I loved the different solutions... so I went back with my trusty seam ripper and ripped out all the original stitching... now the seagulls as I have stitched them are... "WDW - Grits" for the body, wings tipped and the eye is "WDW - Gunmetal", the beaks are "WDW - Daylily" the feet are "DMC 640".  I am so happy I went back and did this.  In redoing this stitching I'm a bit behind but this is, as with all my stitching, for fun a relaxation, and not a race!

It's Fall and I was reading on Natasha's Kitchen blog about Apple Pie and got a wild hair and had to make one... I couldn't find my pie pan, lord only knows where that has gotten too... so I hauled out the 9" springform and it worked fine...you can go HERE and read her recipe, it's very delicious and so simple!!

... we've gotten back some clear skies the last few days, I think I took this on Friday...

A Lotta Smoke and a Little Fog

Gentle Friends, today is quite a bit different than I've ever seen it here by the Bay...
I've taken some snaps from our balcony... making no adjustments to the images or using any kind of filter...
... taken at about 6 am looking east to downtown San Francisco...

... taken about 6am looking west towards Twin Peaks and the fog is just starting to creep over the hills...
________________

taken about 10 minutes ago, 11am looking east towards downtown SF...

.. taken also about 10 minutes ago looking west and you can see the big fog bank gathering up on the hills...

The smoke is sitting on top of the marine layer, fog, and is blocking most of our daylight today so we are having a "twilight" day.  I just got a bacon and onion quiche into the oven so dinner is made and now it's back to the dining room table and work.

A Little Off the Top

Gentle Friends... so... back in April I ordered a clipper set to cut hair.  Knowing we weren't going to be able to get to Anna and get hair cuts I thought it would be a good idea.  Thursday, yesterday,  it finally arrived ... we've both gone since the beginning of March without cuts and I haven't shaved since March 11th and slowly but surely I was turning into a big fuzzy Muppet...but now we have clippers and here's the pile of hair left on the kitchen floor from my head...

... the clippers have multiple attachments and one of them allowed me to clip my beard off and now it's just some stubble and the clipped curls have gone down the drain.  I probably should have done before and after but didn't think of that till just now...

I'll have Agnes finished up by Monday and then I'll go over all the changes I'll be making on the three motifs along the bottom.  I wasn't really happy with the stitching as charted so I've begun the frogging and now I'm thinking of the re-stitch.  I stitch for my pleasure so I gotta make me happy first in my book.  Have a super weekend.  Stay Safe!!

A Little Foggy Evening

Gentle Friends, I've been sitting here all evening after dinner, stitching and watching "Upstairs, Downstairs" and looking out of our sliding glass doors at the view across Noe Valley...here's a snap...

... the fog is rolling in as it has the last couple days.   The last of the light from the sun as it sinks in the west hit the clouds turning them wonderfully pink against a cerulean sky...
it is a lovely evening here by the Bay.

A Little Foggy

Gentle Friends, it's Summer here by the Bay and for the past few weeks, we've been having our usual marine layer of fog roll in daily.  I went to YouTube and found this great Time Lapse video from a couple of years ago of the City and the glorious fog rolling in ..... enjoy...

... almost every evening I have to click on the heater in the house to take the chill off the rooms.  I really enjoy watching the fog and where we live in Noe Valley we have a great view as it comes in across Twin Peaks.  I love the cool summers !!

A Little Weekend Fun

Gentle Friends,  over the weekend we made a trip across the City to visit China Town and I took some snaps...

... parking in the Powell Street Garage we walked up to the Dragon Gate entrance to China Town...

... looking down Grant Street ...

.... more Grant Street....

... lots of shops and places to buy geegaws and trinkets....

... a shot of the Asian Mural on Commercial and Grant.....

... there are lots of SF things to look at and or take home.....

... walking out of China Town this is the back side of the Dragon Gate...

... we decided to have some lunch and headed here to Cafe de la Presse... a great restaurant down on Union Square...

... a shot of the bar...  I'm not sure what was going on at that other table on the left but look at the girl's expression........

... we got sat and ordered some drinks... Rico got his usual coke and I got a Bloody Mary.....

... we both ordered Croque Monsieur's mine I had with fries and ...

 .... Rico had a salad....

UPDATE:  I didn't even think of it when I was writing this Post...... but the reason we didn't have lunch in China Town was we already had plans to go out to dinner with some friends for Chineses in the evening... we went to Alice's... you can click the highlit Alice's and it will take you back to my Post from 2016 about this super restaurant we really like in our neighborhood.

A Little Spring

Gentle Friends, over the weekend we headed down to the beach and the far end of Golden Gate Park to see some season-changing things... the highlight of this annual visit is the Dutch windmill tulip gardens given to the city of San Francisco in 1902 by Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands.  The windmills once pumped fresh groundwater to Golden Gate Park and helped to convert the sand dunes that once covered this area into the man-made botanical area it has become... here are some snaps ...

... they change the colors of the tulips and this year they were lovely red and yellow with lots of yellow California Poppies scattered about.....

... there were also some cyclamen and primroses for some ground cover, overall it was nice to visit and so pretty.... even with the really cold weather we've been having.....  Spring has sprung here by the Bay!!

Since we were so close we also stopped by the beach, the tide was out and the ocean flat and blue!!

.... looking toward the Marin Headlands ...

A Little Fog

Gentle Friends,  over the weekend we had some wonderfully typical SF summer weather.... Saturday the temps reached a blistering 57 degrees during the day with a super breeze..... then Sunday I think we broke 60 degrees.... it was lovely and cool with lots of fog both days.  We had planned on going over to China Town out to dinner but with the fog pouring over Twin Peaks....

...  and galloping up through the Golden Gate over the City...

... we decided to stay in and ordered Haystack pizza!!

I love summer here by the Bay!!

A Little Fun at Land's End

Gentle friends, our 4th of July started off with a little breakfast at Louis' down at the beach overlooking Land's end, The Cliff House and points west..... we went with some friends that have lived here in the City for years, but have never been..... here are some snaperoo's...

... Louis' sits alone overlooking the Pacific... and with all the fog and wind it was a really typical Summer morning here by the Bay

... we got one of the booths so that we could look down on the ruins of the Sutro Baths...

... here are what Mike and Rico ordered....

.... and I got a waffle with some berries and John got french toast....  it was a really tasty breakfast and the views as usual spectacular!!

After breakfast, we walked down to the beach....

... some of the ruins up close... the tide was coming in ...

... some of the rocks down by the shore...

... we walked back up the hill towards the Lands End building and I got this nice shot of the entrance to The Golden Gate and through the trees, you can just see the Marin Headlands...
