A Little Finish

Gentle Friends, I finished up Agnes and here's a snaperoo...

5/4 - 6/6/20
Blackbird Designs Loose Feathers 2013 - "Agnes Platt's Strawberry Sampler"
40ct Lakeside Linen "Vintage Lentil"

This was a fun little sampler to stitch for the Spring. The changes I made in the floss was to substitute GAST Rhubarb for GAST Holly Berry and GAST Chamomile for GAST Parchment.  I changed the red to soften up the color and the Parchment because it was really too close in color to the linen and just disappeared.

Along the bottom the three motifs I made other changes... the first motif was full of Queen Stitches and I stitched it as charted but after I had finished it just looked clumpy and I was not very happy.   So I re-stitched it with only cross stitches and modified the image a bit.

The second motif of vase and flowers I also stitched as charted but once again I wasn't very happy with the result.  After looking at it for an evening I decided to frog the stitching and to rechart.   The vase as charted from the original sampler was uneven and wonky, my recharting evened it all up.  The third motif is as charted.

I also added an extra strawberry to the vine at the end on the left.  I also usually don't stitch the original stitcher's name when I stitch historic samplers, as I make too many changes to the original charted piece... but with this sampler, I like the placement of her name so it worked for me.

A Little Off the Top

Gentle Friends... so... back in April I ordered a clipper set to cut hair.  Knowing we weren't going to be able to get to Anna and get hair cuts I thought it would be a good idea.  Thursday, yesterday,  it finally arrived ... we've both gone since the beginning of March without cuts and I haven't shaved since March 11th and slowly but surely I was turning into a big fuzzy Muppet...but now we have clippers and here's the pile of hair left on the kitchen floor from my head...

... the clippers have multiple attachments and one of them allowed me to clip my beard off and now it's just some stubble and the clipped curls have gone down the drain.  I probably should have done before and after but didn't think of that till just now...

I'll have Agnes finished up by Monday and then I'll go over all the changes I'll be making on the three motifs along the bottom.  I wasn't really happy with the stitching as charted so I've begun the frogging and now I'm thinking of the re-stitch.  I stitch for my pleasure so I gotta make me happy first in my book.  Have a super weekend.  Stay Safe!!

A Little Stitchin'

Gentle Friends,  to begin with, I really do no like the NEW Blogger, I tried it out for a little while and just don't care for it one bit!!  Now with that said here's a new shot of Agnes and the alphabets...

...I'm not sure why it looks so blue, I guess it was the lighting...I was asked a question about the letter "D" and I think Agnes forgot to stitch it where it should be and just popped that sucker on the end.  I love the quirky nature of that misplacement and thought about moving it back into place but then just went with it the way it was charted.

In the story about the original sampler, Barb and Alma mention about the addition of the name Ella after the second alphabet "Z" - I left that in as I had a really good friend when I was growing up in Maryland named Ella and it was nice to think back to my childhood a million years ago and Ella and her rabbits.  Fun Times!!!  I'm just moving through this one and already have another project on the horizon...a Christmas present I need to stitch up that should be fun!!

A Little Stitchin'

Gentle Friends, stitching away on Agnes...here's a rather crappy snap...

... I finished up the three-sided border.. and got a start on the alphabets.  I've switched out a couple of the called for flosses as they sort of disappeared into the linen.  I'm thinking about extending the beginning of the border to match up with the left side.

A Little Stitchin'

Gentle Friends,  still stitching away on Agnes... here's a snaperoo of where I left off...

...as I turned the corner on the border at the top right I had to adjust the outside line a bit so that it matched up with the left side.  For some reason, the blue line was another 4 stitches further out and made the whole piece look lopsided so I "fixed" it visually as I have done here and there along the way... I'd have finished up the border but missed a crucial sitch that I really couldn't fix so after I sida a couple of not too nice words I frogged that sucker back almost 2 1/2 inches... I've restitched and almost caught up to where I was and will probably have the border complete in the next day or two.  Then it is on to the alphabets in the center...

A Little Stitchin'

Gentle Friends, I got a bit of stitching done this past week... here's a snap...

... you can see I've turned the corner and am working along the top edge.  This sampler only has the three sides and is a smaller size than what I usually work on...  you can see some of the changes I've made along the way.  I went back and added a strawberry to the tail end on the vine... and I've added an extra stitch to bring each of the strawberries on the top edge to a point and look like the other berries that are along the sides.
