A Puppy Post for Friday

Gentle Friends.....I thought that Wahumpi would be a fun snap for the end of the week...... I know he's thinking  "no pictures please, I want to be alone!!".......

....  he's on one of his blankets and as always has pulled it up right next to the baseboard heat we have in out townhouse - both he and Lolly will snuggle blanket lying next to the heater all evening....  even with the sunny 65+ degree days, once the sun goes down behind Twin Peaks, the temps fall quickly and we usually turn the heat on a bit.

That's about it for the week sports fans - thanks again for stopping by, do stop again!!
Have a super weekend!!!

Wrapping up the Week

Gentle Friends I thought I would wrap up the week with a few more snaps....  I've had a great time sharing the photos of the Fair with you and this will be the last one.  n addition to all the "regular" farm animals that were present this more exotic one really got my attention......

...... this guy had such great poise!!  All the Llamas were down what was called "Llama Lane" and all under their own marquee.
_________

We also hit the local Farmers Market on Saturday afternoon.  Downtown Vancouver, WA is really charming and the Farmers market is no exception....

Old Stash & New Stash........ Guarding Her Stufff!!

Gentle Readers and Dear Friends I do appreciate all the great comments!!  Thanks you for setting my mind to ease about the wash/rinse on finished pieces.  I do often wonder if I do things "like everyone else" or "am a maverick blazing my own trail."  I wonder if maverick is just the right word there... it might be that "stubborn" is a better fit.  I do feel better that so many stitchers iron pieces - and use a lite mist - I use a steam iron and when needed a lite mister - whenever I wrap up a piece.  It seems that I can never get the wrinkles out if I don't.  Every piece I have ever stitched has that little extra "specialty" fiber - delicious Who-Hound fur - no matter how close I look and pick them out, there always seems to be a couple I miss.  I did like the idea of a roller to remove them, but those suckers seem to wriggle into the stitches and only a tweezers can get at them - just a little obsessive I know.
__________

By now everyone has learned of the terrible devastation in Japan - with the 8.9 earthquake and the multiple aftershocks.  Here in the Bay area they have closed off the Beach to traffic - the Great Highway is closed that runs along parallel.  Yet there are people going down there to "watch" as the waves roll into and onto the beaches....  can we say dumb move!!  I have heard that many of those that live along the coast in teh Outer Sunset have started to leave - as nobody knows what the tsunami will do to our coastline.  It will hit at around 8am PST and at a low tide so they are thinking it might just hit and cause a large high tide condition.  We wait and see.....
__________
I really didn't have anything to yap about this morning, but last night I thought I hadn't posted a stash shot in a  long time - I really enjoy looking at what other stitchers acquire - sometimes I see something I had missed and add that to my list.  As ever I have far surpassed SABLE.  Here is a shot of the latest things I have added - New things from shops and older things from eBay and direct stash sales......

I get a real rush out of finding an OOP chart - and one that I have been looking for a long time is..."Sarah Maddock Sampler" - I saw this completed Debbie's Blog a long time ago - fell in love with it, especially the grape vine border, and have been chasing after one it ever since - they rarely if ever become available.  It is the complete kit but I will shift out the 25ct linen to 36ct and shift the DMC to silks. Overall I am really happy about everything  - and now need to file it all into my already stuffed binders.
__________

I wanted to leave off today with a snap of the Peach.  Although she is going on 9 - she is an out of control maniac high energy puppy when ever anyone touches one of  "HER" toys.  I don't mean just any toys but her squeaky skinneez toys.......

She usually gathers them up - there are 5 of them - and then just dares Lolly to try and touch them.  Pete never comes near them, but Lolly will try and grab one and then run away with it.  If Peach sees this then she is after her all growls and snarls until Lolly drops it  and puts it back with the others.  She has 3 raccoons, a fox and a spotted coyote.  I think that everyone of them one only has a single squeaker left - they start off with two.  They get punctured and stop working since she chews and scratches at them so much.

The last Framed Sampler, an HOE Exchange and some Hound Snaps

Gentle Readers and Dear Friends what wonderful comments for yesterdays post - I thank you!!

Today's framed piece will wrap up the framing for this week. This sampler was one I finished this winter and one I really wanted to have framed an up on the wall. Here are some snaps...

It is the Memorial Sampler I stitched up for my Dad - I was wanting to have this framed for the longest time. Here is a detail close up of the frame. It has a cushion-convex look that I think is nice for this piece...

I heard from Lilllie that the HOS "For the Birds" piece I made for her had arrived - I got a snap before I sent it out....

I used HDF silk on a piece of Mystery linen and think it turned out quite nice.

-------- lots of Hound snaps at this point----

Almost every evening we have the pre-dinner "grab ass" exhibition from the who-hounds. This event usually revolves around the chew toys and chew hide things that litter the floor. I have thought about taking some snaps but just never have - until last night..... so here you go....

You can see the three main chew toys in this snap - starting off with the Statue of Liberty squeaker - a gift to the hounds from Rory - then moving to the left you can see the newest one - a raccoon skin - which is an unstuffed squeaker that is really floppy - and then towards the back is the long legged blue rabbit - which is the one that Lolly like to play tug-o-war with.

the Peach usually throws her weight behind her attacks and here she has Lolly kind of caught...

a butt shot of Lolly with Pete hanging to the sidelines - he is so timid that he usually will not get near the girls when they start playing...

going for the Liberty squeaker and the tough growls ensue....

the Pete checking out the rough and tumble....

this is what Lolly usually does - she will stand on the Peach - and again Pete is looking on...

the Peach has Lolly down and right after this Lolly flipped over and was on top of her with that tongue of hers just licking away - you can see the Pete has unrolled the "lipstick" which he is wont to do when the "grab-ass" is going on!! He has also unbeknownst to the girls has gotten a good sniff of the "raccoon skin" - at this point he will usually just pick it up a trot off without them even knowing what has happened.

a chew, bite, growl moment to see who is the top dog at Hacienda Hound.

more of the chew, growl...

and now the fight for the "Raccoon skin" ... again....

I will leave off with the tough - Peach as top hound, holding down Lolly to make her point of " I am older, fatter and a bit smarter than you - so wise up new gal!!"

There you go sports fans - another week of stuff. Thank you so very much for all the kind and encouraging comments this week. Have a great weekend - do stop back again next week!!

Thursday Posting

GR&DF I so enjoyed all the comments - thank you for them!! - and the Lolly-nator is still a bit grumpy and wearing the ole Rumba panties. That is not the name that the manufacturer calls them but a name we came up with. If you remember Hunny, our little teacup Chihuahua we lost last year - she only had a few "moon times" and the panties we found for her were bright pink with four or five lines of lace/ruffles along the backside - so we named them her "rumba panties." Now the name has stuck even though Lolly's panties are dark blue fabric without a bit a lace or ruffle anywhere!! We where planning on getting the "big snip" for Lolly, but with her like she is now it has thrown that off schedule - it has been put off until she is back to normal and the cookie shrinks back to its normal size!!

It was totally funny about the dog food - Jennifer mentioned how she decided on what to buy - we have tried numerous types and have finally settled on the senior chicken/lamb/rice by Mighty Dog - they like it and so we get it - and it is often on sale. I guess I am pretty lucky about "doggie day spa" for the hounds. All I have to do is throw the stopper in the kitchen sink and fill it up with warm water and voila a tub for washing Chihuahua's - I forget that with larger dogs there is way more to it - and Anna having to take in Stella for her grooming - I don't think that Pete could stand it - as he usually has a nervous break down just standing in the water.

Melissa asked the other day about where I got "Wisdom Ways" by Traditional Samplers - this one came from Em-Li's. It is a great site and Carol is great to work with. This particular sampler I was totally drawn to not only because of the verse but the border is so very pretty. I know that there are those that do not like stitching borders, but I love doing them and the repetitiveness is so relaxing - I know - total freak here!!!

Last night I did not work on the Memorial Sampler, but started up my next exchange piece - an Easter one that I think will turn out quite pretty.

The flickers where two nice old musicals - the first was "Strike up the Band" - 1940 - starring Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland. It is one of the many "formula" movies they made. I still enjoy them and watch them frequently. The second film was "Cabin in the Sky" - 1943 - starring Ethel Waters, Eddie "Rochester" Anderson and Lena Horne. I love this musical and have seen it many times. It is worth the whole picture to see and hear Ethel Waters sing and shimmy. This was the first movie that Vince Minnelli directed. Both films are easy and fun to watch.

There you go sports fans - not too much today. Thanks for stopping by do come again!!

OMG will it Never Stop!!!!

GR&DF I was a bad boy!!! I couldn't resist and all day I kept clicking over and looking at that book ....... that book with a lovely sampler on the cover...... why, oh why is it so hard to hold back!!! Sharlotte mentioned the need of a 12 Step program...... what is needed is an intervention as this can only be called an addiction!!!! So, yes, I ordered Honeysuckle Manor -

and it should arrive in a few days - I need a cigarette or something!!! and I don't smoke!!

Moving on - I finished up an exchange last night but will not get it out until tomorrow - is was a deluge this morning coming in to work and I hadn't gotten it wrapped up well enough to forge through the rain with it - so tomorrow it is.

We have some news about sweet Lolly - over the past few days she has been licking and bothering her nether regions and when I gave it a good look I was amazed that her "cookie" had quadrupled in size - I was stunned to say the least. Then she started to spot so that prompted a visit to PetCo to pick up some Rumba Panties - as she is now "in her Moon" time and becoming a woman - goodness she is only at 10 months!! So in addition to the less than fashionable panties we got some "liners" - which are way big and have to be cut in half to even fit in the XS size outfit we had to get. I also picked up some nice shampoo for the who-hounds. They are in need of a Doggy Day Spa Day - and I think this weekend it will happen. What is so funny is that the shampoo we got is some great smelling Italian imported Honey-Lavender $14 a pop stuff. Now, I don't mind buying nicer stuff for them since I save money on the shampoo I get for us - at $1.69 a bottle Suave does the job on my 4 hairs just fine!! What we won't do for our babies!!!!

The flicker last night was an older musical "Twenty Million Sweethearts" - 1934 - starring Dick Powell, Ginger Rogers and Pat O'Brien. A nice piece with some catchy tunes - the story is of a crooner trying to break into Radio and onto the "Carlotta Soap" show. Typical Powell fare and worth a look.

There you go sports fans - I may post a snap of the Memorial Sampler as I have thrown some floss into that off and on over the past few days..... we'll see if I can get a decent snap or not. Thanks for stopping by and for you kind comments about my addiction!!

Take care,
edgar

A Bunch of Stuff with a Bunch of Snaps!

GR&DF how is that for a title! It was one of our regular weekends with no drama and no stress. Just busy with weekend things.

Let me begin with a finish and happy jig!! I put everything aside and focused all the stitching on TiTD Sampler - and she is now finished - here is a snap...

I really enjoyed this piece - except for all that white stitching - that did get a bit tedious. I shifted some of the colours from the recommended - it is stitched on a BoF 36ct "Meadowlark" piece of linen. I was looking through the stash box of linen and I have quite a bit of Meadowlark.... I guess I sort of like the stuff!! I also started another sampler - Hetty Child - and here is the tiny bit I got stitched -

This is actually the second start of this piece. I started the first one on another piece of linen. I was stitching away and just couldn't wrap my head around the linen's colour and count so I pulled it all out and began again on this piece - 32 ct "Fog" from Silkweavers. This piece I have changed all the DMC floss' to Belle Soie Silks. I like stitching so much better in silk and BS is always a winner!!

We also went shopping - to Japan Town, to the Farmers Market and Estate/Garage Sales. There were a few things to get at the Estate/Garage Sales .... and a snap...

I found a great old Thermos - I have been looking for one for the longest time and this $1 find was just the ticket! I also found a frame and a 2 cup measure - along with the two icons and books I spent less than $8 - now, you can't beat that with a stick!! The Hallowe'en light I found in a thrift store for $2 - now how's that for buying back your childhood. Here it is with a light in it -

What is so crazy is that at the Antique Fair we went to a couple of weeks ago I saw a few of these - and those where all priced at $30+ - so this was a bargain. It is dated 1969 and looks pretty good. Keeping with the Hallowe'en theme Rico got the hounds "costumes" out and before they could get away they got dressed up - here is a snap of that -

Aren't they having a ball!! Well, at least we had a good chuckle and the second they got down they were both pulling off their costumes -
Shopping yesterday included a visit to the Farmers Market at the Civic Center - and of course I got some snaps of there...

The Fall things are looking beautiful!!

We also ran over to Japan Town - here is a snap of the Peace Tower and some Fall foliage...

I didn't find what I was looking for - but I did pick up some new incense -

It is a new kind for me and is Sandalwood - the guy at the incense shop suggested this brand. It is very good!! I like the more woodsy- spicy incenses.

We did have the drawing picking the winner of the Sail Away Chart - as with all drawings here at the Sheep - we had the Hag Claw draw from the BoD....... now, with the crazy Peach watching - it draws forth a name.......

and that name is.....

- Lisa over at Hockey Mom Stitchin' Hobby. Congratulations!!! I have sent you an email for your snail mail to get the chart out this week. Thank you all for your interest in the SA Chart. Lisa mentions that when she has stitched it up that she will also be passing it along to another stitcher - so keep an eye out for that Give Away.

I think that wraps it up for today - Thank you for stopping by and do come again!!

Take care,
edgar

A Carol for Christmas

 Gentle Friends...I think I'll post a little carol...enjoy _______________ ...Rico and I wish everyone a wonderful Christmas!
