A Little Finish

Gentle Friends, I finished up Agnes and here's a snaperoo...

5/4 - 6/6/20
Blackbird Designs Loose Feathers 2013 - "Agnes Platt's Strawberry Sampler"
40ct Lakeside Linen "Vintage Lentil"

This was a fun little sampler to stitch for the Spring. The changes I made in the floss was to substitute GAST Rhubarb for GAST Holly Berry and GAST Chamomile for GAST Parchment.  I changed the red to soften up the color and the Parchment because it was really too close in color to the linen and just disappeared.

Along the bottom the three motifs I made other changes... the first motif was full of Queen Stitches and I stitched it as charted but after I had finished it just looked clumpy and I was not very happy.   So I re-stitched it with only cross stitches and modified the image a bit.

The second motif of vase and flowers I also stitched as charted but once again I wasn't very happy with the result.  After looking at it for an evening I decided to frog the stitching and to rechart.   The vase as charted from the original sampler was uneven and wonky, my recharting evened it all up.  The third motif is as charted.

I also added an extra strawberry to the vine at the end on the left.  I also usually don't stitch the original stitcher's name when I stitch historic samplers, as I make too many changes to the original charted piece... but with this sampler, I like the placement of her name so it worked for me.

  1. Dearest Edgar: I sometimes think some designers really look at the finished design, i have also changed colors and some stitching techniques.
I hope you are having wonderful weather, it was 88 today and in the 90s tomorrow that is okay with me.
    Have a wonderful week.

  2. That was quick, it doesn't seem like 5 minutes since you started. I wonder if you could fit one more strawberry in on the right hand side, just to fill the space a bit?

  5. It is just beautiful Edgar! I have that chart and I want to stitch it. Thank you so much for all your changes. I had been avoiding the chart because of those queen stitches so now I will just do as you did and make them into cross stitches.

  8. You are one courageous stitcher; changes, re-dos, shifting, etc. I
see that rather than a strawberry to right top, you just left the one
on the left, be still my Libra heart...I would not have had the gumption to not add the strawberry bottom center on right... It is all
a treasure nonetheless. Just love your work.

  9. This is very nice. Do you put your initials and date you completed somewhere on the samplers. I never did until I started working at a Needlework shop and they talked me into it. Never gave it a thought that I didn't mark my work. I'm working on some new Blackbird designs.
