Another Stormy Weekend

Gentle Readers and Dear Friends thanks again for your great comments and kind thoughts on  Fridays post!!  This past weekend started off with Saturday rains, rains and then some more rain - it actually began on Friday afternoon late and then just lasted through until very late Saturday evening on into early Sunday morning - all this rain meant that we went out to breakfast and on to the store for our weekly shopping and then back home.  We stayed in all day - and I got some stitching doneand watch some movies....  my kind of day!!

I worked on Shores and here how Block 11 stands at the moment..

I finished up all but the fill stitching.  I will finish up this Block and then go back to Block 8 and finish there with a Family personalization.  Here how it looks overall ...

I really want to finish up a couple of these larger WIPs before starting on something new.....
____________

On Sunday morning we went to Palm Sunday Mass and it was a really nice service.  Then later on in the day I baked up a cake.  I have a very short list (probably 4) of cakes I truly love ..... the first on my list will always be German Chocolate Cake, followed closely by Boston Creme Pie - I just love the combination of custard and cake!!  So, when I read a recipe over at The Country Cook for Boston Cream Poke Cake, I knew immediately that was one I was going to try!!  So I got the ingredients together...

Made the easy peasy sheet cake, poked some holes...

...made the pudding (I used 1 box of vanilla and1 box of lemon for a little zing)

...then made the chocolate glaze ... and before it set up completely I cut me a slice -  I couldn't resist!!

The snap of the slice is not as pretty as it could have been if I had waited but it was really a good cake and so easy!!  I love how the pudding seeped into the cake - this is a keeper and will be made again!!  Thanks so much Brandie!!!!

  4. The cake looks delicious, a bit too sweet for me, though. Lovely stitching! Our weather was the same as yours over the weekend - rain, rain and more rain... Happy stitching,

  5. Shores is looking wonderful! And so is that cake. Mmmmmm! Sorry it's been raining so much. But you all need the rain, right? So maybe it's good. And a good excuse to stitch too!

  6. Shores is looking grand. I enjoy the large projects, both stitching my own and vicariously participating in the stitching of others like yourself, especially when the others are working on projects I admire but will never stitch myself. The whole Hawk Run series falls into that category. For myself, I'll be stitching Block 3 of Primitive Needle's Black'd Skie and working on my Jacobean Elegance Afghan this month. That cake looks like great company fare: not too difficult but still an impressive result. It must have been the weekend for baking ... on both coasts. Rainy weather kept me indoors here in NY and the gift of two dozen eggs fresh from one of my student's chicken coop had me baking up a storm: a Peach Melba Bread Pudding and a Tomato/Carmelized Onion/Cheddar Quiche ... all detailed on my blog.
