A Christmas Finish

Gentle Friends, over the weekend I finished up "Santa's Village"...  here's a snap...

....  I stitched this on 36ct Natural linen, using most of the DMC and over dyed floss that were recommended.  I did however make quite a few substitutions where I thought my colour choices worked better on the linen.  The last Cottage was stitched using GAST "Apple Cider" and not the called for "Baked Clay."  It was a fun piece to work on!!!!  One of the biggest changes I made was to not break the rows with the red and white stripe bars but to wrap the piece in a red and white frame and then add the hearts in each corner.

There are a couple of ideas about finishing I am thinking about -  and I still need to acquire some tiny beads to add for Santa, Mrs Claus and Buddy's eyes and the for the gingerbread boys.

A Little Stitchin'

Gentle Friends, I've finished up the 11th cottage  "Elves Workshop."  The most major change I made was to change up the elf to from what was charted to...

... look more like Buddy the elf from the film "Elf."  I lifted the idea from SewAmy, she was a blogger that stitched the Village a couple of years ago.  It was a great idea and I made some notes to recreate it on my own Village.  Now just one more cottage and this sucker will hit the finish pile.  Right now I'm working on finishing up the candy cane border.

A Little Stitchin'

Gentle Friends, here's where I left off last night on Santa's Village...

... I tried quite a few motifs in the corners, starting with just lines against lines, that looked a bit on the raw side, then I tried trees, bells, stars...and the hearts seem to fit - at least for me they work and I'm the one to please...only three more cottages........

Rip-it Rip-it Rip-it

Gentle Friends,  I've been having a time with the frog.....

Stuffed Toad Pattern | Dog Breeds Picture
.... stitching and froging large portions of the border and corners at least twice - I just can't get to something I like and that seems to fit the "Village"...  I think last night I hit on something, a little on the simple side - but - I'll see and live with it for a few days.....

A Little Stitchin'

Gentle Friends, I've finished up the second row on "Santa's Village" and now it's on to the last row.....

...  the main change I made with "Candy Cane Cottage" was to use a darker green on the outside wall.  I had to because my CC "Poblano Pepper" Green for the door wall, was not as light as the one that must have been used when the piece was being designed - in fact it was basically the same shade of "avocado green" as the called for outside wall DMC.

As I pulled the floss for the next house "Santa's Sleighworks," I've decided I'm going to make some major shifts in colour so that it will be a bit more visually interesting... more about that as I move forward....

A Little Stitchin'

Gentle Friends, I finished up "Christmas Tree Farm" over the weekend... here's a snap...

... a change I made was to go back and took out the middle band of "Jolly Holly" I had stitched in the trees and restitched using the called for DMC green...  and went back to the first house and un-stitched the called for dark green DMC from the top and bottom and restitched with CC's Steamed Broccoli, the floss I am using for the pine bough decoration under each house.  There is only a single tree left on the bottom row which I will stitch CC/DMC/CC so there is continuity.  I kept looking at the "Jolly Holly" and it just didn't sit right - the colour was on the blue side and all the greens in this piece are on the yellow side..... I have looked ahead and see some other changes I am going to make, but will talk about them as I get to each house.

A Little Stitchin'

Gentle Friends, for the first time in a very ling time we stayed in almost the entire weekend.  we stepped out twice once for a run to the store for some Hound Chow Saturday, and then yesterday to Mass and a quick breakfast then home again.  No Thrifting, no running around no9 nothing - just hanging about around the house.  In all the hanging out I got a little stitching done....... here's where Santa's Villages stands.....

... I can;t get over how much this house reminds me of the Alamo at this point....  I changed up the floss on the pine trees to reflect the pine change I made at the beginning from a DMC dark green to CC "Steamed Spinach."  The lighter green floss is also a CC, "Jolly Holly."

A Little Stitching

Gentle friends, just a quick post of the stitching I've worked on while watching Downton Abbey, Series 5 a couple of times over the last week......

...  I've finished up "Santa's Stocking Store" and have made a start on "Reindeer Stables."  I've only set two goals for my stitching this year - to have "Santa's Village" and that lovely sampler "Sojouner" completed - here's were I left off on that piece....

.... I think that these are both doable..... and I have a couple of other pieces I'd like to complete, but I'll keep the list realistic for now......

An Exchange and a Little Stitching

Gentle Friends, I took a little break from the computer, it wasn't all my doing as we had super slow intermittent connectivity but I though i would post some stitching.....

I took part in an Exchange over at the HOE and my ornament finally arrived just a couple of days ago.  It has been out and about in the mails for well over a month - it must have been coming via camel, in keeping with the Season.....

... my partner, Karen, stitched for me the cutest snowman, and finished it with some ball fringe...
______________

....  I've also been ever so slowly stitching away on Santa's Village, and have finally finished up Mrs. Claus' Cookie Shop.  I'm saving the french knots after all the major stitching is finished.  Now the first row is completed it's on to the second row.....

Gifted Gorgeousness SAL January Posting

Gentle Friends, I joined the Gifted Gorgeousness SAL this year started by Jo over at Serendipitous Stitching.....  the piece I'll be working on is "Santa's Village" from CCN.  It was also my New Year start - why not kill two birds with one stone, eh!!  So I finished up Santa's House.  Here's a snap....

... I'll be adding some beads - so I've left off some of the details - and of course I couldn't leave well enough alone and I've changed up some of the DMC suggestions for over dyed choices.......  in fact, just so you know I change my mind way too much, I've restitched the pine needles three times with three different greens until I settled on this green - which is a piney green - at least to me it is.....

A Christmas Start for the New Year!!!

Gentle friends, I kitted up and was just chomping at the bit to get a move on this project.  It's been building in my work basket ever since it first reared it's darling head monthly.......   I was ready to make a start a few times, but I put it off and put it off until I found a SAL called " Gifted Gorgeousness 2015" click HERE to go there.  I had collected most of the charts with GC's.  I knew it was time to get it together and make a start.  We post on the 15th of each month with progress, but I wanted to post a bit early as I usually show stitching on Mondays.......
so here's my little start on a new piece......

....  it's "Santa's Village" by Country Cottage Needlework's.  I'm stitching it as a single large sampler on a piece of 36ct "Natural" linen.  I am using mostly the suggested floss, but will be switching out some of the DMC for over dyed's to make it a bit more interesting to the eye and to stitch.  I'm also going to leave off some of the candy cane stripping between the rows and encircle the entire "Village" with the red and white candy cane.  At this point I made the decision to not put any of the buttons on, but I may add some beads and other bits and pieces........  I'll make those calls as I stitch along.  Other than that not too much was going on at my house but some lazy dayz.....  and a Downton Abby marathon yesterday leading up to the premier of Season 5 last night!!!
