A very Little New Stitchin'

Gentle Friends, I decided to jump right in with a 2021 SAL from over at Modern Folk Embroidery.  I had thought I wrapped my head around the choice of floss colours, but once I got going it was a little less clear... so here's a snaperoo of where I left off last night...

... the piece is called "The Fruits of Plenty" and each section releases on the first of the month throughout the year.  You can stitch this either monochromatically or duo-chromatically, I chose a two colour variation.  I'm stitching it on 40ct "Moonglow" from PTP and thought I was going to use "Wavy Navy" from CC and "Corn Flower" from GAST.  Well, I'm sticking to Wavy Navy (I do love this black/blue floss) but am not so hot with the "Cornflower".  I stitched a bit in the upper left corner and don't really like it too much so I pulled the other 12 shades of light blue overdyed flosses I have from stash to figure something else out.  After eliminating more than half of them for various reason I narrowed the field to "Morning Glory" from GAST.  It's a very pale blue shade that I was looking for and think it might just work... there are a couple of other choices I have on hold back but let me get in a bit of "Morning glory" to try... the little bit I have left is just enough of a taste to see it but not enough to jump in with stitching... I am very happy with the Moonglow linen, it has just enough of a yellow cast to it that sort makes the dark blue really pop, the snap above sucks but IRL it works all over the place!!

  1. What a beautiful piece. I can see where you would want a slightly lighter blue shade of floss. The navy/black one is perfect on that fabric.

  2. Looking great! I’ve purchase from him in the past; I’ve stitched his Japanese Hiragana alphabet. Very talented designer

  3. This looks like a very fun design... It would take me an entire month to finish what you do in a day I swear. I used a lot of Cornflower Blue in my mermaid....and wasn't overly fond of it...but I actually kind of like the contrast it gives your piece....I suppose, though, it will depend on how much of that color will be used. Looking forward to see the Morning Glory in it. Hoping your week got off to a good start. ~Robin~
