A Birthday

Gentle Friends... today would have been my mother's 94th birthday, she was born in 1926 in Greenville North Carolina, and born at home.   Here's one of my favorite snaps from her childhood...

... she was two and this was taken on the side yard of her home in Greenville...  and who hooks a goat up for a picture???  When I was rooting around for that snap I found this one...

... taken when she turned 20 in just after WWII in 1946...

  1. Your Mom looks like a very proper young lady of that era...almost wish that standard had held. Your loyalty to her memory is touching.

  2. My father was pictured in a goat cart, too - but they lived on a farm. I suspect since the date is painted on the wagon, an itinerant photographer came around offering to photograph children.

  3. What a lovely tribute to your Mom. The picture of her as a small child is just adorable, plus what a wonderful little goat cart. She turned into a beautiful young woman.

  4. What a beautiful lady your mother was! I had to look twice at that photo as I almost thought it was mine...I have a very similar one of one of my long-departed relatives in a cart...hooked up to a goat LOL. Apparently, quite a few folks "hooked up to goats" back then. ~Robin~
