It's a Cold Tuesday Morning

Gentle Readers and Dear Friends thanks so very much for warming up my morning with your great comments.  I have put aside Mary Ann for a bit to work on an Exchange Piece, but she will be back soon.  I am really enjoying working on her - she is not complicated, no specialty stitches - just full cross stitching - I got a couple of emails asking how I decided on this particular sampler to work on..... I think the reason I was drawn to this sampler is the second verse on the piece - it is the first line from one of my favorite Christmas Carols - "Hark, the Herald angels sing...."  Here is a great version of that song from St Paul's in London.....

My crazy reason in a Nut Shell..

Over the weekend I watched a really good film - a difficult film, but an excellent film - "Wit" - 2001 - starring Emma Thompson (a super actress)...

Thompson plays a tough Professor of metaphysical poetry - specializing in the Holy Sonnets of John Donne who is diagnosed with Stage IV Ovarian cancer.  Be advised, this is a tough film to watch; but also know that if you choose to do so, you will be rewarded with an experience that is invaluable and unforgettable.  From the first words spoken in the film "You have cancer" to the last voice over "Death be not proud" it is a journey well worth taking.  At a short 98 minuets the impact will stay with you for a very long time.

That's about it for today sports fans.  I did want to mention a New Blogger out here with us.. Chiara - over at The Grey Tail - she is having a New Blogger Gift-a-way Drawing - so pop on over and say Hi!! - and leave a comment to enter her drawing!!   Thanks again for stopping by, do stop again!

Take care,
edgar

  1. Thank you for the update, Edgar! I saw "Wit" a long time ago, but I still remember it - very powerful movie. For me, anything with Emma Thompson is worth watching. Have you seen "Stranger than Fiction?" That is another treat.
    Have a great week!

  2. Lovely carol singing clip, the weather we've had today one could be forgiven for thinking it was Christmastime lol.

  3. Oh, I love "Wit", even though it's very difficult to watch. Just thinking about the Runaway Bunny part makes me weepy.

  5. I was wondering if Hark was Hark the Herald Angels Sing. Confirmation is nice, lol. And why do any of us choose a piece? I don't think that's a crazy reason at all. I'll add Wit to my movie list. It sounds wonderful, and emotional.

  6. Years ago one of the local theaters put on a production of Wit. Sad to say my memory of it is scant. I do know being in the Bible Belt the ending was toned down a bit for the live audience. Might be worth looking up again.

  8. Hi Edgar, Just read this post. I have not seen the movie "Wit" (although I love anything that Emma Thompson is in), but several years ago I saw the play. It was and is very powerful. While not easy to watch, you are not left with a hopeless feeling at the end...rather a triumphant one. It still pops into my head from some corner of my memory....
