A Little Thrifting .... a Little Abbey......

Gentle Friends, in addition to my DMV visit and Lowes expedition on Friday I also hit a couple of the thrift stores I would normally get to Saturdays.  I knew I wouldn't be up to running around or have the time Saturday... and thrifting is something I like doing... I found a little something...

... this great small German Volkstedt Porcelain 3-D plaque... I have a couple of these from my grandmothers' estate, they are the blue jasperware, this green jasperware piece is really unusual, in that the cherub is grimacing, I think this is an allegory of Love... the heart pierced with and arrow and the cherub being "Love Stung"... so basically in porcelain form, it says "love hurts."  It's really sweet and for a few dollars how could I pass it up!!

Sunday afternoon we headed to the Alamo Drafthouse to see the Downton Abbey Movie.  What's so special about this theatre is that it has a full-service menu which they keep serving during the film) and the seats are large lounge chairs and the wait staff was super!!  They make some mean bourbon cocktails!! - and - some killer adult milkshakes!!  It was so fun!  They also have a hard and fast rule that there is no talking, no tweeting no phones at all during the film and that you'll be asked once to stop.  If you don't stop then they'll eject you from the theatre immediately... no refunds.  I love that they enforce the rules and the jibber-jabber and yakkity yakking are nonexistent.  It's these distractions that keep me from going to see movies in theatres more frequently.  The movie was really fun also, we are big DA fans and went with friends who are also big fans so it was great fun wrapping up the weekend.  The ADH is located in the New Mission Theater built-in 1916, renovated in 1932 so there are lots of Art Deco details.  It is a true old fashioned movie palace!!  We're already planning a trip back for another fun evening.

1925 at the Abbey Comes and Goes

Gentle Friends, I had pre-ordered the Blu-Ray of the Final Season of Downton Abbey, it arrived and we spent the weekend watching show after show with it wrapping up last night....

Downton Abbey Getting Ready for Another Wedding
A shot of the Cast from the Christmas Show Season 6

...  yes, I am sad to see it end and I could have gone on watching Season after Season, but I guess it is better to wrap up a good thing than wait for it to "jump the Shark" as they say.   I'm not sure about the negative things I've read about the 6th Season or what was so very bad about it - and  I'll not break any spoilers here, but I will say we thoroughly enjoyed each show with all the twist, turns and little intrigues and we will certainly go back ad re-watch all the Seasons.

A Downton Abbey (no spoiler) Posting

Gentle Friends, you may or may not know we are Downton Abbey Nuts at our house - so I pre-ordered the Blu Ray 5th season, it came Tuesday evening and we finished watching it last night.....

....  some good moments, and some great moments - of course there were some super lines spoken - gotta love the Dowager Countess - and the Christmas show wrapped up with answering some  questions and left some pretty big questions to be answered in Season 6.  Can't wait to re-watch it this weekend!!!

Some Downton Abbey Stuff

Gentle Friends thanks so much for stopping by on this chilly Friday morning.  Since there seems to be such a surge of fun DA feeling going around I though I would share some fun things I found out there on the Internet....

Don't you just love it when the Earl is behind you!!!!  I have some ideas about this story line.......  like, if it wasn't Bates who did old evil Vera in (and I do no think it was) then who did???

Who would want to protect the family from more scandal?  Could it be, O'Brien??

She has said on more than one occasion that she was NOT going to let anyone "Hurt her lady!!" Think about that for a few minutes!!  I do love me some O'Brien!!!

I do enjoy downstairs....  and feel so sorry for poor Daisy..

I am really happy that she has started to stand up a bit for herself.

I will leave you with a great O'Brien interpretation by Levi Hastings - a really super artist from Seattle!!
