TCM Remembers

Gentle Friends thank you so much for your great comments...  gotta love the Muppet's!!  I would have to say that - probably my favorite version of ACC has to the 1970 musical "Scrooge" with Albert Finney...  I'll get to that one in a couple of days.  Last night's 1938 and 1951 versions I enjoyed, tonight I think there will be a Netfilx in the mail so I'll watch that first....
__________

Keeping with the film theme this week I saw the TCM Tribute piece for 2012 yesterday and once again they did an outstanding job, it's a little over 5 minutes long, enjoy.....

I am still plugging away at ATS, I think I'll show a progress snap on Monday after a weekends worth of stitching.

Thanks again for stopping by, do stop again!!

Take care,

Rainy Day - Sunny Day

Gentle Readers and Dear Friends -  Saturday was gray as steel and went from down pour to constant drizzle the entire day.  Then Sunday burst forth and we had beautiful blue skys and cold breezes.  So which day do you think we were out an about.....  you got that right - Saturday!!  We started off with me being a little less that pleasant about going out into the rain - but eventually we go going and it was off to the SF Flower Market.  Rico wanted to pick up some orchids to replace those - that - how can on say it...... are no longer with us.  They are pretty to look at,  but kind of temperamental about the occasional drop of water.  We started off the shopping with Breakfast in the Flower Market Restaurant.  It was very nice and not too many people - since there was the downpour going on - it was just those shoppers that had to be there - and not many of the "lets wander about and look", but not buy anything types.  I of course had the camera and took some snaps.......

 I really love bromliades.

and this succulent display was just beautiful

There was the Chinese New Year Parade down at Union Square on Friday night in the rain and weather. - Kung Hei Fat Choi -   It is the Year of the Rabbit.  So at the Market there was buckets and buckets of cherry blossoms.

We also stopped off at a thrift store, there being no Estate Sales in the city this weekend.  I picked up a couple of things....

A super copy of the "Complete Works of Michelangelo" - for a buck - and a sugar bowl in the "Indian Tree" Pattern - its an old fashioned pattern I really like and have quite a few pieces.
__________

Some friends of ours where in town from San Diego and so we all went out to dinner Saturday evening.  I had made reservations earlier in the week at one of Rico's favorite Restaurants...

and here are some shots from the evening...

the onion volcano - you really can not see it but there was some flames coming out of the top along with the steam.

some of the chopping that our cook Ruben did for us.  The show at grill side is really lots of fun to watch.

What would the evening be if we didn't order a Blue Hawaii in a glass as big as a fishbowl!!!
__________

I also got some stitching done on Shores - I finished up Square 5 and made a start on the large double square 6&7.  Here is a less than good shot of the progress.....

__________

Tonight on TCM (the bestest TeeVee station) is continuing the "31 Days of Oscar" by showing "State Fair" -1945 - a fun  movie with some great musical numbers... like this one......

"Isn't it Kinda Fun" with Dick Haynes and Vivian Blaine.  The movie starts at 8pm EST and 5pm PST.
Well worth a look.

That's about it for today sports fans.  Thanks for stopping by and or you super de duper comments, I do appreciate your taking the time and trouble!!

TCM Star of the Month - Natalie Wood

GR&DF thank you for your kind comments about yesterday posting. I was looking at the BPC piece last night and wondering what to put in the two wreaths. In the original piece there are initials and a date. Although I am stitching from a chart which comes from the original I was thinking of putting things that meant something to me - any suggestions??? Scroll down and give it another look - all the other medallions and 1/2 medallions are filled - there are just the two wreaths that need something......

Last night TCM began the month long tribute to Natalie Wood - as star of the month.

1938-1981

The films they showed last night where her earliest performances - as a child and very young adult. Natalie was one of only a handful of stars that made the transition from child actor - to teen idol then American Icon. I have seen most if not all of her movies and last night I got to see a really good early film "Tomorrow is Forever" - 1946 - starring Claudette Colbert, Orson Wells, George Brent, Lucille Watson and Natalie Wood. This was not only Natalie's big break film but was also a film the redeemed Orson Wells. Claudette fought for him to play the second lead and with her star-power in 46 she got what she wanted. Until this film he was considered "difficult" to work with and had not worked for a few years - with this film he reestablished himself and went to some really great films in the late 40's and 50's. But, back to little Natalie - she plays a war orphan that has escaped from Nazi occupied Austria with her adopted father played by Wells. The oddest thing about this film is the studio had Natalie go a very light blond with her hair - it is very odd to see Natalie as a blond!! The film has a big back story that begins in WWI, but I won't go into that - It is a very good film and Colbert is just wonderful, as always!! If you get the chance you should give it a look. The star of the month films happen every Monday night starting at 8pm est (5pm pst) and next week the movies reflect her teen years beginning with - "A Cry in the Night" - 1956, "The Girl He Left Behind" - 1956, "Splendor in the Grass" - 1961, "Rebel Without a Cause" - 1955 and wrapping up the evening with "The Burning Hills" - 1956.

That's about it for today sports fans - thanks for stopping by. Do come again!!

Take care,

The Last of the Summer Sunshine

GR&DF thank you all for the comments on yesterdays post about "Oscar outfits." Mary mentioned Sarah Jessica Parker - now she usually does a much better job with her gowns, this one was nice but not a knock out like we are used to seeing her in - and I do agree about her hair - it was a mighty "coif-o-saurus" that really didn't photograph that well when she was on stage. It was only later when we got a all over look that it popped and showed off just how huge and fixed it was. The jewellery - some of it was just magnificent!! If there is one night to wear a sparkly - then Oscar Night is it - even if most of the stuff is borrowed and loaned those diamonds still catch the light very well!!

The post title is in reference to our opening up the last of peach jam I made last summer.

I am going to eek this stuff out as long as I can. I could make more since I can get peaches at the Safeway, but they are from Chile. They are adequate, but not "local" fruit so I am going to have to wait until the new crop comes into make more.

More stitching on my Easter piece.

The flicker last night was an oldie but a goodie - "Calamity Jane" - 1953 - starring Doris Day and Howard Keel. I totally love this movie and have seen it dozens of times. It wasn't a DVD but actually came on the Encore Western movie station so I had to watch. What was so great is that we got home from dinner at "Alice's" and this was coming on - such perfect timing!! Alice's is a great neighborhood Chinese place that we think is pretty tasty!!

I wanted to mention that tonight starts the month long TCM tribute to a wonderful actress - Ginger Rogers - 1911- 1995. She was much more than a dance partner to Fred Astaire - she could do comedy, drama, sing and dance. The month long tribute will showcase 43 of her movies on Wednesday nights - tonight they are showing 5 films starting off with... "The Gay Divorcee" - 1934, this is followed by "Top Hat" - 1935 , then it is "Swing Time" - 1936, next is "Roberta" - 1935 and the final film of the evening will be - "Follow the Fleet" - 1936.

There you go sports fans - Thanks for stopping by , do come again!!

Take care,
