Gentle Friends, after mass on Sunday we were walking down to the Castro for brunch and libations. We passed a flower stand and there in one of the many flower buckets was my favourite spring flower... lilacs... and I couldn't resist...
... so they came home with me and look lovely in the living room... and smell better!!
______________
There was a Mothers Day bake sale at church so I made ...
... my Great Grandmothers Lemon Pound Cake... it's an old fashioned recipe, the cake is one of my favourites I've made many times!!

If you came to our church with that cake for a bake sale there would be a line of people fighting for it! I'll bet you're a favorite baker of your congregation.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Lilacs and delicious looking cake!
ReplyDeleteBe still my heart - the sight and aromas of both items... What a
ReplyDeleteSunday feast....Many thanks for sharing, Edgar.
I am also a lilac lover! This year, just as they were blooming nicely we had those 80 degree plus days and they just went way too fast as did some other Spring blooming things. Now we are back to clouds and showers but a bit too late for the lilacs! Your cake looks so yummy. I do love lemon pound cake!
ReplyDeleteCould you share the beautiful cake recipe? It look so good! Thanks for all your posts regarding your trips overseas -- really enjoy the photos, etc.

The lilacs are gorgeous, Edgar! The cake looks divine.
ReplyDeleteI love lemon pound cake. That looks delicious. The lilacs look so pretty.
ReplyDeleteOh Edgar, Lilacs! I love that flower. When I was growing up in Pennsylvania we had a lilac bush in our yard. I looked forward to the sight and smell of those blossoms every May. Bummer, no lilacs here in Texas. Thanks for sharing.

Cake and flowers are just perfect. My gran had a lilac tree in her garden and when I see them I always think of her. x
ReplyDeleteLilacs are my favorite--they make the house smell wonderful. The season is over for us sadly but now happy daisies are busting out. The cake looks so luscious! A winner!
ReplyDeleteDearest Edgar: Soon the Lilacs will be blooming, I love the smell and look of such a beautiful flower.
ReplyDeleteThat cake looks so yummy.

The flowers and cake are wonderful, and SO seasonal, Edgar! They both look so beautiful. Last week, I made one of your (well, your Mom's/Mom's friend Pat, was it?) rum cakes to send for a going-away at Marc's work. The bundt pan I had handy was WAY to architectural to yield a rum glaze-soaked cake with perfect tidiness, but I sent it along anyway. Let me tell you, it was EXTRA popular this time! Apparently people are still raving about it this week, and those who missed it want a slice. There are many encore requests, I hear, as well as many "this is better than what I had on x Island!!!" professions. I do think of it as a Christmas item, but it looks like i'lol be making another soon. Do you have a preferred box mix brand? I used Duncan Hines this time. Thanks as always for the super recipe!
ReplyDeleteOoooh that cake looks amazing!! Would you mind sharing the recipe? I love the smell of lilacs too!
