A Bakery, A Market, Some Lunch and Wine!! Fall 2018

Gentle Freinds....so today the Post will be an easy, pretty read.... we did lots of touring but we also did quite a few easy going, relaxing things and just hanging out in France type things.....

... the day started off early in the morning on the bridge going into Montruiel-Bellay... it was Tuesday... I know this as we were on the way to the boulangerie on the daily bread run.... the boulangerie in Le Puy, which we walked to every morning, is closed on Tuesdays so we had to drive 5 minutes to MB to visit...

... this delicious place...

...these are some of the delicious things that are made daily... like the Pain au raisin (third from the right, Pain au chocolate (the large stack on the right and the Pommes (apple) thing (second from the left)
... the morning sun on the walls of the Chateau de Montreuil-Bellay... later in the day we headed to the weekly market in Saumur...

... some lovely Fall vegetables...

... the sausage vendor...

... and all the bulk spices and herbs.. after shopping we sat in a cafe and ordered...

... a delicious rose... this whole area of the Loire is known for the rose wines they produce...

... after wine, we wanted to have some lunch so we headed back to MB and parked in the upper village and then walked down the  Escalier Saint-Pierre (Saint Peter Steps)...

... and then a short walk down the street...

... we were headed for this restaurant ... were Chris and Mo are friends with the sommelier...
... we sat outside on the river looking at the Chateau...

... the daily menu came out...

... and of course, it was time for more delicious wine!!  I ordered the Plat and dessert...

... this is the delicious pork..

... and I ordered the cheese for dessert.... local cheeses...

...this was the cookie dessert I had to get a snap of...

... then, of course, we had to have a round of espressos...

... after lunch, we walked along the river as it was another beautiful day...

...we ran into the ruins of Eglise Saint-Pierre, the steps were named for this church... this church was mentioned as early as the 11th century, the current ruins are from the new church built around 1140-1150, then restored and enlarged in the 15th century.  It was destroyed by fire during the Wars of Religion, was rebuilt/restored and was finally abandoned and fell to ruin in the mid 19th century...

... it was great to walk all over this place ... our next stop we headed back to Le Puy and ...

... the vineyard and winery  Domaine de la Paleine as we needed some more wine for the house....

... looking out over some of the vinyards...

.... the tasting room...

... it was really bright and colorfull...

... we got quite a lot of wine to enjoy!!
