A Little Christmas Gift-a-Way
Gentle Friends.... as you may remember one of my favorite stories is Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" - and this time of year I usually like to have a Drawing and Gift-a-way..... here's the skinny...
There have been many film adaptations of ACC made over the years... some good , some bad and some just dreadful!! I thought it would be nice to Gift-a-way two of the best adaptations made... the 1938 version with Reginald Owen playing Scrooge and the 1951 version with
Alastair Sim as Scrooge....
...... so, if you would like to win a copy of this super film (they are DVD, Region 1) then all you need do is leave a Comment on this post with a way for me to contact you if you win. Anyone can enter, from any where so long as you can receive Mail. I'll have the Hag Claw and Who Hounds pick a winner on Saturday the 12th and announce the Winner on Monday 14th...... easy peasy!!

A Christmas Finish!! - and - A Little Drawing.......
Gentle Friends I wound up the stitching on the "Christmas Band Sampler" last night and so have my first finish of the New Year!! Here's a snaperoo.....
"Christmas Band Sampler" by Heartstring Samplery
36ct Sand, over dyed by me with black tea.
I used the recommended floss (GAST and WDW)
12/6 - 1/16/2014
This was a super piece to work on and I almost couldn't put it down to work on anything else. The changes I made were - from top to bottom - Band 7, the do dads at the end of the row I replaced with up and down lines to go with the top and bottom, at Band 11, I replaced the do dads at the end of the row with a double heart motif of my own construction - and at the bottom I left off the numbers, I think they detract from the body of the sampler.
I love Beth's pieces and have even pulled from the "stash heap" my next start. The chart, floss and linen are all coming from stash how cool is that!! I'll show the actual start and talk about that on Monday.

Now, on to the Gift-a-Way Drawing..... since the chart for "Christmas Band Sampler" was a gift to me I think it only appropriate that I gift it on to another stitcher......
... so, if you would like to have this slightly used copy ( I stitch from copies not originals) just leave a little comment on This Post Only and next Thursday evening I'll have the Hag Claw draw a name and announce the winner on Friday, 1/24. Anyone, anywhere can enter, if you can get snail mail you can enter...... just make sure I can contact you through your entry Comment. There you go easy peasy!!

An Exchange, a Little Christmas Gift-a-Way and we're at #12......
Gentle Friends I loved that I hope you enjoyed the "Specials" post from Saturday. I couldn't just not leave off TV Christmas offerings.
I mentioned last week about the Exchange I did with Shirlee over At "The Easily Influenced Stitcher" - well she got my box of cheer and here's the ornament I sent along to her......
... I stitched a chart form the 2005 JCS from BBD - it had a real old fashioned feel about it so I used some velvet/lace ribbon I have had for just such a special Christmas piece - I used Gloriana Silks and stitched it on a piece of opalescent linen, that reminded me of glistening snow. It was a a really fun exchange.

In conjunction with my Saturday Posting I wanted to hold a little Christmas Gift-a-Way - and since I am doing Christmas Films what better than to give away some of those films that I am Posting about......
.... I picked up 4 Films that are great favorites of mine for the Gift-a-Way - to enter the Gift-a-way is super easy - just leave a comment on this Post Only with the title of the DVD that you want and that's about it - there will be 4 Winners, one for each title - make sure in your comment that you leave a way for me to contact you. This Gift-a-Way is open to anyone anywhere - just remember that these are region 1 DVD's - if you have a multi-Region Player that will not be a problem, but I thought I should mention that little fact. I'll run the Gift-a-Way through the week and close it on Friday, 12/13, then over the weekend I'll have the Who Hounds pick 4 names and announce the winners on Monday December 16th. I'll mail the packages out Priority so you have a good chance of getting your winning DVD by Christmas!!

Today's film #12, I've sort of tied to Saturdays post and "The Homecoming" -
"It's a Wonderful Life" - 1946 - starring James Stewart, Donna Reed, Lionel Barrymore, Thomas Mitchell and Beulah Bondi. This film actually has two ties to "The Walton's." The first is more obvious tie with Ellen Corby. She plays Esther Walton, the grandmother on the Walton's in both "The Homecoming" and the series. In "IaWL" she has an uncredited bit part as Mrs. Davis (look for her the next time you watch the film). The other tie is with Beulah Bondi, she plays Martha Corinne twice during the Walton's series - a great character actress if there ever was one!!
The film is a perennial classic that gets played to death on TV, but I find myself watching it 3 or 4 times through out the year, it is one of my all time favorite films! You can read all about the film HERE. Here are a couple of interesting tid-bits about the film - that it comes from the 1939 story "The Greatest Gift" by Philip Van Doren Stren - and - in a 1973 interview Jimmy Stewart named this film as his favorite film of all that he had done. Originally when released it had mixed reviews but as with so many films has grown in popularity and prominence with time and exposure.
I found the movie on YouTube - give it a look if you've never seen it before.......
