A RAK, Some Satsh, A Finish and a Start

Gentle Readers and Dear Friends Friday passed and now I am back to my new computer on Monday morning.  Hoping that things go much smoother today and that I can actually function at a level higher than a saltine cracker!!
__________

Last week I was sent a really lovely RAK from another stitcher...

I had been looking at this chart for a long time - I do love a red bird - and you can't get more red-birdier than this wonderful sampler.  Included in the RAK was a wonderful Stitchville bag - Thank you so much Evie!!  Your kindness just made last week so nice!!!!  You gotta love her note card!!
__________

About 10 or so days ago 123 Stitch was having a sale on Christmas things- and since I was in the Holiday mood and I needed a couple of skeins of floss - I thought what the heck - and got a bit o' stash along with my few skeins of floss - I also picked up the newest Blackbird Loose Feathers  - Part I.  One of the pieces I got I have been circling for a few years like a drooling vulture -  the LK ABC's of Christmas.  I have resisted this piece because I just hated that it came pre-kitted.  I personally prefer to get just the chart as I will usually change up a colour or two.  Since i first saw it and was so stubborn about buying the kit -  I have searched all over the net to find just the chart, but they never come up. Since this was on sale I finally decided to break down and so I picked up the kit.  I also got a couple of PS charts to keep filling out the collection - and speaking of Prairie Schooler I saw that the newest 4 charts have been released - of course I really like them and will get them, but I do think that they are looking mighty familiar/similar to as some very recent past charts.....  makes me wonder??
__________

On Friday I finished up the Mystery Sampler - and it was a great piece to stitch!!  Here is the snap of my version....

With thy Needle and Thread - Birds of a Feather Mystery sampler
35dt WDW Confederate grey -
Using mostly the recommended flosses - except the grass I used GAST Dried Thyme, the alphabet I used GAST Kale (Limited Edition), the key I used GAST Grecian Gold.
__________

My new start is a small little sampler I have had in my stash for years.  The 12 Blessings of Christmas by Lizzie Kate.  I first saw these little Flip-its and had to have them,.  It is not so much that I am a fan of LZ but sometimes she puts out something that just hits a note with me and these did the trick!!  I have been meaning to stitch them up but just never got around to it - so Saturday afternoon I found a piece of 36ct creamy linen in the heap that the whole piece would fit, changed up some of the colours and made this little start.
__________

Not much else over the weekend, no sales only a little shopping at the Going out of Business sale that Borders is having.  I'll save that little tid-bit for tomorrow.

Thanks for stopping by, do come again.

Take care,
edgar

  1. What lovely stash, Edgar! The red bird is adorable, and I too have been drooling over the Blackbird design. I keep telling myself I have plenty in my stash already, I don't NEED to buy more... *sigh*

  4. What a gorgeous stash Edgar. Love love love the RAK you received.
Your Mystery sampler turned out just gorgeous. Love your changes. How cute that you stitched the E in a different color. Such a neat idea.
I ordered the newest BBD as well, couldn't resist this one, and try now very hard to resist "Feather your Nest"!!!! SO tempting.

  9. I LOVE the card which arrived with your RAK!

Beautiful Finish (and start!) I agree with you that LK is not my thing but once in a while she gets one I really like!

Also, agree with you about kits (which is why I think it is funny that I'm offering one myself right now! But I DID make sure that ppl could get the pattern w/o having to go for the kit! And I will do so in the future if I make any other kits!)

I am disappointed by the New PS Halloween piece (though there are 1 or 2 motifs I like.) I am IN LOVE With Santa's night however and have already placed my order. I wonder how large those "ornaments" will work up at various linen sizes; champing at the bit to find out!

    P.S. I'm still lol'ing at the "Saltine". :)

  12. Oh nice! Love the mystery sampler finish! So gorgeous! Love your stash too. Nice picks! I hear you on the PS pieces. I do like some though. I've had a hard time deciding whether to get them or not. Nice new start and nice RAK too! So is Borders closing altogether now? So sad. I thought they had a better selection than Barnes and Noble. And all the small mom and pop local bookstores closed here years ago.

  14. Congrats on your mystery sampler finish Edgar and a great haul there with the RAK and new stash! I'll have to take a closer look at the new BBD charts and see if I should add them to the never-ending list. I looked at the new PS charts online recently and was relieved to find I don't feel the need to get them. I have over 75 PS charts and while I love them they do get repetive. The 'month' ones they have been putting out - I like the pictorial scenes but I don't like the little rhymes too much. (Don't ask me how many of my PS charts have actually been stitched LOL!)

Love your new stash, in particular that PS chart.
I've been on holiday and having just returned I found a new load of stash waiting for me as well. One of the items was Feather Your Nest. I couldn't resist that red bird either! It was so nice of Evie to surprise you with it.

I hit the sale too. No stitching books or anything, but it was nice to get new books, right away without waiting, at a little discount.

  25. It's so nice to receive an RAK, Edgar. Glad you got to have the experience!! And good for you on the new stash. New stash is always wonderful. Grats on your BoaF finish. It's lovely. I don't usually like samplers, but this one rings my bell!! Your LK start is cute too. Keep up the good work, and be nice to your new PC!!

  26. Love your mystery sampler finish - I have just turned the first corner on the border myself. I hope to get a good pic or two and update soon.

Your RAK is sweet - how nice. And your stash update includes a couple I have coming to me, mostly excited about the BBD.

Our Borders had mostly 10% only for the whole store so far. I am so, so sad. I almost could support our area Borders on my own. I remember many field trips to the original Borders in Ann Arbor while in middle and high school with the art club. I loved that store too...not far from me at all.

Have a good week, Edgar. Look forward to seeing your LK finish!

  32. Nice RAK you received. I LOVE your finish, what a pretty piece. I'm the same as you regarding L*K, not typically the type of design I would stitch but once in a while she puts one out that I have to have ;)

  36. Did you use more than 1 skein of floss for each color on the Mystery sampler from With thy needle and thread. I'm starting mine on 40ct. Thanks. I really enjoy your blog...
