A Little Christmas Jig

Gentle Readers and Dear Friends another short weekend ends and a long week begins - boy do I bitch a lot about the short weekends!!  Here in Baghdad-by-the-Bay, as Herb Caen would call it, we had grey and overcast cool foggy weather - so it is summer still in SF.  I stitched, We estate saled, I  baked and did some laundry - it was a normal weekend at our house.
__________

Let me start off with my little finish - I started this last weekend and finished it up Friday evening -

Blackbird Designs "Blessings be Thine" - on 32ct BoF Meadowlark - with my conversion of Belle Soie silk.  I am really pleased with the results.  It worked up very fast and I can certainly see myself stitching this up again.  Here is me on Friday evening....

....dancing a little Christmas jig.....  I really do enjoy stitching Christmas pieces and have lined up my next Holiday thing - just waiting for a couple of flosses to arrive.
__________

We got to a few estate sales on Saturday morning - here is the haul....

... 2 frames and a beautiful majolica mug.  The brown frame is kind beat up but easily fixed the silver one, who in their right mind spray paints a beautiful frame - it is just beyond my comprehension, but the lovely floral work is in perfect condition, I just have to fix the finish.  The mug is just great, from about 1870ish and still retains the gold highlights - it was a pretty decent day.
__________

I also whipped up a really great cake - another gem from "The Country Cook" - gotta love that Blog!! - I made the Honey Bun Cake.....

I am snaking away on a piece as I type - super easy and very tasty.  I made no changes to the recipe.  I will post it on the BBB tomorrow or you can click over to TCC today.
_________

That's about it for today sports fans.  I do thank you for stopping by
- hope your weekend was wonderful.  Do stop by agian!!

Take care,
edgar

  3. Hey Edgar, sounds like a routine weekend...but I like those kind; especially if I can get in stitching between the laundry and chores. Love the BBD finish - is that a stand-alone pattern or was it in a book? It is really pretty and does look like a quick stitch. Looking forward to see what you do to the silver frame. Your cakes (and all baked goods) look great. I have a rhubarb custard cake in the oven as I type this - first time trying the recipie but it is made with rhubarb picked minutes before baking so how can it go wrong! Have a good week.

  16. he Blessings Be Thine piece and your conversion to Belle Soie is inspired.

As to the silver frame, is there anyway you could use paint remover to wipe off most of the paint just leaving tiny traces to give a "distressed" gilt look? I am not sure how that would look but it's worth a thought. Then if you didn't like the distressed look, you could go all the way, removing all the paint and restaining to your taste.

  17. Love the 'Blessings Be Thine'! I stitched just the holly (with the border) for an ornament. It does
    stitch up quickly.
The silver frame is really unique,
can't wait to see what ends up in it!
    Still envying your temperatures....

  18. You beat me to the Honey Bun recipe. I just put together all the ingredients. Can't wait to make them. Although it is VERY hot here in MN and I don't like to have the oven on, so they may have to wait for a little cooler weather. Nice BBD finish.

  21. OMG, you always have the best looking food on your blog. Great looking stitching too - but, oh that food.

I love your finish though. It's always been a favorite of mine and fantastic score on those frames. I especially love the silver one!

  22. Great finish! It's always so nice to see Christmas finishes in July when we are in the middle of a heatwave:))) I'm so ready for cooler temps! SF weather sounds perfect!

  23. Edgar,

Congratulations on your BBD finish. It is really lovely on that fabric.

You really put me to shame with how fast you stitched the piece. Mine is languishing as a UFO. I bought the pattern from an online shop back in 2009 and recently discovered that it is an illegal copy of the leaflet! I feel a little guilty about stitching it although I paid for it and had no idea it was a photocopied pattern!

  24. Really nice finish Edgar, perfect with Meadowlark! Got a big piece last summer, should really do something with it. Isn't The Country Cook great? Seems like many stitchers have recently discovered it.

  25. Your Blessings finish is gorgeous!! I did this one last year but didn't use the silks and there is definitely a difference. Your colours look much more vibrant.
That cake looks delicious. I will have to try that one whenever we return home from vacation.
