A Christmas Start for the New Year!!!

Gentle friends, I kitted up and was just chomping at the bit to get a move on this project.  It's been building in my work basket ever since it first reared it's darling head monthly.......   I was ready to make a start a few times, but I put it off and put it off until I found a SAL called " Gifted Gorgeousness 2015" click HERE to go there.  I had collected most of the charts with GC's.  I knew it was time to get it together and make a start.  We post on the 15th of each month with progress, but I wanted to post a bit early as I usually show stitching on Mondays.......
so here's my little start on a new piece......

....  it's "Santa's Village" by Country Cottage Needlework's.  I'm stitching it as a single large sampler on a piece of 36ct "Natural" linen.  I am using mostly the suggested floss, but will be switching out some of the DMC for over dyed's to make it a bit more interesting to the eye and to stitch.  I'm also going to leave off some of the candy cane stripping between the rows and encircle the entire "Village" with the red and white candy cane.  At this point I made the decision to not put any of the buttons on, but I may add some beads and other bits and pieces........  I'll make those calls as I stitch along.  Other than that not too much was going on at my house but some lazy dayz.....  and a Downton Abby marathon yesterday leading up to the premier of Season 5 last night!!!
______________

That's about it for today sports fans.  Thanks for stopping by, do stop again!!

Take care,
edgar

  3. I did a Downton Abby Marathon over the holidays - re downloaded seasons 1-4 on my iPad and watched them all (while stitching of course...or napping). I'll down load each episode now and wait to watch them on the plane when I travel with my son's hockey team. We have a couple of trips coming up this month and next. Take care! And Happy New Year.

  9. Great progress!

I saw where someone stitched and quilted this series in with log cabin style quilting. She used Christmas fabrics of course. If (WHEN!) I stitch these, I'll consider finishing like that.

  10. Downton Abbey marathon is playing here as well! :D I'm at season 4 (never seen it before) and got them all on DVD 'till this year's special! WOOHOO!
I've had Santa's Village all kitted up for a year now, I'll start it as part of my few allowed starts this year, but not just yet since I'm starting a literature inspired piece next week. I look forward to seeing your changes on the chart arrangement, I'll do this as an entire piece too but on 40ct. - have fun!

  12. Stitching and Downton... the perfect way to relax.
Nice start on your Santa Village. I stitched mine individually and made them into Christmas bunting, finally got them made up and hung this December (pics on my blog).

  13. Oh I, too, love Santas Village. I stitched it all as one piece, used the recommended threads and all the buttons and had it framed just before Christmas 2013. I hung it up and it's been up all year! LOL!

It's a great piece - I'm sure you will really enjoy working on it.

    Best wishes to you
