It Was a Busy Week

Gentle Friends I am back in SF with all the fog and cold I like....  Florida's weather while we were there was in the 80's and bright and sunny!!

Going through my Mom's house with my sister was a major undertaking, but we got everything done, we opened and sifted through box after box after box of stuff.  The first 4 nights, after going through boxes and closets we spent going through boxes of pictures.  My Dad was an avid photographer - and our lives were heavily "documented."  I am sure that some of those boxes of photo's haven't been opened in decades, but we needed to see everything - it was kind of fun seeing things and remeebreding past events in Mississippi and Maryland - we each took away a couple of boxes of snaps!!

I had an appraiser out to go over things Monday morning, and hired him to run the Estate sale in the very near future.  Monday afternoon the realtor visited and we put the house on the market and by Tuesday we had folks looking at the house... and everyday since then there have been appointments to see it.

- Then on Tuesday I had the Allied Moving guy go over all the stuff to be moved.  Thursday, the movers came and packed up and wrapped up everything to be shipped ----

----that stuff is expected to arrive the end of next week in our homes. Friday morning was spent replacing the title to my mom's car and the afternoon was spent with her tax person getting that stuff ready to be gone over.  it seemed that every day was filled with something to take care of!!

Needless to say it was a busy, busy week of just dealing with everything.  Thank goodness my sister was there, and the two of us got through everything.  There was no way around it - and one person couldn't have done it in such a short amount of time.
______________

I haven't touched a needle since the 25th, so there's nothing on that front to see.  In Florida I was so whipped by the end of the day, I was just numb, and since I've been back I've not had the inclination.   But, I am sure that will change soon.  I got a package from 123 Stitch while I was away and it was full of goodies!!

That's about it for today sports fans - I really need to get back into the swing of things and just "get on with it!!"  Thanks for stopping by and for your kind comments and emails!  Do stop again!

Take care,
edgar

  2. Welcome home Edgar. I know this must be so stressful for you. I hope you take the time YOU need to rest and take care yourself. Stress can do so much harm to our bodies and it hits us before we know it. So take a few deep breathes and do what you need to take some time for yourself.

    Hugs to you and yours.

  6. Hi, I really can understand what you have done the last days. You got it! I liked to read the part with the photos because I had to do that 5 years ago. The house looks beautiful. I hope everything can be handled like you want and imagine.
    Greetings from Germany, Gabi

  9. It's a lot to deal with when a loved one passes away. It was just wonderful that your Sister was there...and the boxes of photos, I know you both must have had a lovely time going through all of them. :)

I know for me, when my Mama passed away, I was heavily into crochet then, and I made doilies like my life depended upon it...for it somehow made my heart feel better while my hands were busy. I know you understand what I am saying.

I have a feeling you'll be stitching in no time...until then, just relax and enjoy all the sweet memories. And know that death does not stop love, as you well know, it is merely a bookmark in our journey.

Hugs to you and blessings always

  10. Big ((HUGS)) to you Edgar. I remember having to clear out my Moms house after 30+ years, my brothers and I had a great time looking at stuff we had not seen in years and finding things I remember my Mom "misplacing"

Wishing you the best of luck with the sale of your Moms house and again many ((HUGS))

    Take Care!

  12. It is emotionally exhausting going through all the belongings of a loved one! All those trips down Memory Lane are bittersweet. Glad you and your sis were able to get it taken care of so quickly. What goodies did you get from 123?

  16. Dear sweet Edgar. I love reading your blog and it always makes me smile. I don't comment much on any blogs I read, but I am an avid follower. I am sorry about your mom. It is so hard to lose those we love. But my dear, I swear if I see you say "get on with it" again, I just might fly to SF and throttle you!! That is not being kind to yourself! And yes, I know our lives go on and we have to pick up the pieces, but I really feel in today's age of the "microwave generation" where everything must happen RIGHT NOW, we do not give ourselves time to properly feel the things we must. We rush through grieving stages, we overlook depression as pity parties and too often tell people "mind over matter". And yes, there may be points in life where it does come to that, but you are certainly not at that point yet. give yourself the time you need, follow your heart as to what you need to do for you. If stitching gives you comfort, then by all means. If you need to curl up on your couch and watch movies or read, then do that. but never feel like you must get on with it.

  21. Glad to see you are safe and sound back at home. I am sure that was difficult but you are probably glad it is over with. I wish you much luck in the sale of the house and everything else you probably still have to deal with.

  22. I'm with Shanda--you just take your sweet time, doing whatever you feel like, to help cope with this loss. You should not be under an assumption that you HAVE to do this or that, or act like this or that (meaning--the male is the strong one, etc...) Each person is different. Enjoy the pictures, and may they bring sweet memories to your recollection every time you look at them! Hugs!
