Weekend Stuff

GR&DF I do appreciate the kind and helpful comments - I was a lucky stitcher to get two super ornaments. Tracey asked about the camera I use - It is an older one that I think I have had for at least 3 years - a Canon Power Shot A550 7.1 Pixel. You just can not imagine the trauma I had shifting from film to digital. I am usually that last person to assimilate any kind of new technology. For example - I fought off the CD for years before I gave in to them. I think the only thing I quickly went with would have been DVD - now there was something great!! VHS tape just sucked IMHO - they break , wear out, need constant adjusting ect... A DVD has none of these problems. Now, with Blu Ray - I am less than enthusiastic. The main reason being that what I like to watch - older movies - are just not being released - and I have 100's of DVDs that even if the Blu Ray equivalent was out there I wouldn't run out and replace.

I did putz around with some framing - I was moving mt picture frame stash and thought to myself that I could probably frame something - and so I dug around in the finished pile and pulled out a recent finish and 30 or so mins later I had it on the wall.....

Now I have a really nice addition to the "wall o-sampler." I don't know why I didn't frame it up sooner as I got this old 19th century frame a while back. I love how these vintage frames set off the needle work so nicely.

This weekend was like many in the past - we went to estate sales on Saturday I only picked up a couple of things - here is a snap -

I got another antique frame - and a really lovely Double Wedding Ring Quilt - and once again there is the Peach!! I only paid $2 for the frame and $10 for the quilt. The quilt has no spots, stains, tears or smells. There was actually two quilts in the pile of blankets we were digging into but Dale got the other one - it was an Around the World pattern. I think it was a super deal and looks great in our second bedroom on my G-Grandmothers bed.

There wasn't that much that caught my eye at the other sales but we did go into the Presidio to a house sale and driving through stopped at Inspiration point and I took a couple of snaps....

This is looking out over the bay - with Angel Island to the left and Alcatraz in the middle. The east Bay is in the distance. It was a lovely day, clear and bright. Then I turned to the left and took this of part of the housing in the Presidio...

It was a nice weekend and now we are on the count down to turkey day!!

Thanks for stopping by, do come again!!

Take care,
edgar

TisD looks fabulous in that frame!! Great job! The double wedding ring quilt is great. I am in the mood to piece another top, just not sure what to do, but thinking of something antique or something similar. Reading about "Inspiration Point" made me think of the t.v. show Happy Days. Remember that was the name of their make out spot? Have a super day!

Love the sampler and the frame you used. You did get a beautiful bargain with the quilt.

Beautiful framing on TitD! And what a find on that quilt! Wow!! I can definitely understand why you wouldn't jump on the blu-ray bandwagon with all the old movies you like to watch. We don't have blu-ray or HD tv or even Tivo (DVR)! Nothing. Pretty sad, huh? lol!

No, you are not the last person on Earth to adapt to new technology. You will have to step forward and be second-to-last, since I would be in last place!
Wow, what a super frame-up. The quilt and newest frame are amazing bargains. Both on such excellent condition.

Edgar your framed sampler looks gorgeous - nice job! I love your estate sale finds, and do you think maybe the Peach is saying the quilt should be hers? Lovely scenic photos!

Good framing job Edgar! What a perfect match to the sampler. Wonder what lovely will go into the new frame you just purchased? You got a wonderful find in that quilt! And---of course, LOVE the snaps of my hometown. I loved going to Angel Island for a sunny afternoon... loved hiking all over. One time we 'missed' the ferry, but the darned Rangers found us and took us off... dang! :)

Hugs.

I'm glad I'm not the only non-techy out there! Years ago it took me a looonnnggg time before I even bought a microwave..LOL Now, I don't know how I lived without one :) I could care less about Blu-Ray or Wii or 3G phones or any of that stuff.

I love your framed piece! The frame is wonderful with it. I'm so disgusted...I took 2 samplers to my LNS 3 months ago to get framed and still don't have them. I was in there almost 3 weeks ago and inquired about their progress and she said the frames just came in that day. I'm still waiting. Needless, to say I'll pay top dollar for them that I could have done myself. I won't be taking any more to her in the future. I hate to not support my LNS but this is ridiculous.

What a bargain on the quilt!!

Lovely framing of your work! I also love the pics you took at Inspiration point. I am an avid photographer myself and had a difficult time switching to digital. Now, I use an Olympus E-650 DSLR (upgraded from a Kodak EasyShare 12 megapixel I bought a couple years ago and will be sending to my niece in MI next week). I also enjoyed your comment about CDs. A friend of mine, in the 1980s when these things first appeared, tried getting me to switch. I didn't until around the mid 1990s and still can't find some of my favorites on CD! As for the switch to DVD, it took me a little time to switch for a similar reason you won't go to Blu-Ray: my faves still aren't on DVD! I love the classics, but not the ones that were extremely popular. Slowly but surely I am finding them coming out on DVD and will be the proud owner of "Sailor Beware" this holiday season as my mom got it for me. Yeah!!!

No you are not the last person to adopt "new technology". I am on your boat too. I personally want a cell phone that....only makes and receives calls-I don't want to take pictures browse the web, find my shoes, etc. (I only got a cell after one was forced on me at work, and poeple are amazed how little I actually use the thing.)

I don't have cable. And I still use VHS tapes....my Dad tapes hockey games for me I can't get either here in FL, or because I don't have cable (Go Wings!)

Here is the problem....I am only in my early 30's...so I get a lot of flack for not wanting the newest and greatest, or even much technology at all in my life. (I saw this as I type on a years old computer that has been patched together by my brother....high speed internet access is my only need!)

I am jealous of your quilt score. You find such good deals, but that takes the cake. It would be on my bed in minute too...well the spare bed, as I wouldn't let my cats on such a fine quilt!

Get out! Only $10 for that quilt! I am really jealous. :o)

Your sampler looks great in that frame. I framed a piece this weekend too - must have been in the air.

Have a fantabulous week!

What great finds! Love the quilt...your lucky it's in such good shape; most people do not take care of them very well! My ex-husband used a beautiful quilt his grandmother made him to lay on when changing the oil in his Jeep...I nearly passed out when I saw him doing that! LOL!

That frame really is the perfect complement to TitD! You have such a talented eye for things Edgar!

Hope you, Rico, and the babies have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

HAPPY STITCHIN'

This frame is the perfect frame for your stitched piece. It looks fantastic and it adds some sort of patina to the sampler.
You were more than lucky to be able to purchase a Double Wedding Ring quilt for this price. Enjoy it!
