Safe and Sound Weekend

GR&DF thank you all so much for your comments and emails about how we are here in SF. The gas line explosion last Thursday was south of the city in San Bruno - It was beyond belief, the pictures and news that evening as it was happening and then throughout the weekend. The complete devastation of the area and then all the destruction are just terrible. It looks like a war zone. Just yesterday they where letting some people back in to see what, if anything, is left of their homes.

Over the weekend I was just south of feeling good so I stayed close to home - and as usual it has landed in my throat so once again I am channeling the voice of Brenda Vaccarro.

I did get some finishing and some stitching in - I can show an updated shot of SoHRH.

Square 2 is coming along nicely. The finishing I worked on is for an Autumnal Exchange - and will go into the mail on Wednesday.

We did venture out to the mall for 2 things... a visit to -

to pick up some a SF treat - and the prize will go into the out going today. I also picked up the single issue of Vogue I buy during the year - the September issue - just full of the upcoming fashion for the winter - some good, some bad and some completely silly, but I have bought it for years and just can not stop.

I did try my hand at some bar cookies - there are lots of "bar" recipes out there but I finally decided on a recipe because my nephew 's favorite cookies are Buckeye's and this is a variation on that theme - called - "Peanutty Buckeye Bars."

They are very much a chewy, peanutty "brownie" bar. As for the name - kind of misleading, but you never know until you try.

Of the many films watched over the weekend - I did want to mention a DVD that was quite good - it was a Netflix pick - "Phantom of the Opera" - 2004 - starring Gerard Butler, Emmy Rossum, Patrick Wilson, Miranda Richardson (gotta love her!!), Minnie Driver and Simon Callow. This can only be described as sumptuous - the music, the sets , the costumes. I really enjoyed this film and wonder why I had never seen it before. Minnie Driver as the diva "Carlotta" was just stupendous and when she is on screen it is hard to look at anyone else. Even though it is a bit on the long side, if you like Sir Andrew and his music you will not be disappointed.

There you go sports fans. Thank you again for your kind comments and continued visits!! Look for the upcoming annual "Hobbit - Birthday Drawing."

Take care,
edgar

  2. Feel better soon! Seems like the allergies this year are bringing everyone down--I'm already loading up on the olive leaf extract, oregano oil, and other antiviral snakeoils! :D

I was so happy to get my exchange mailed this weekend! I'm not as fast with a needle as you, edgar, and I do fret somewhat over exchanged and deadlines and etc.

Shores is really coming along! :o

  9. I have been wanting to see "POTO" w/Gerard Butler (sigh...) for so long- I keep forgetting. I need to put it on my DVR wish list. Sorry you aren't feeling well! Hope it passes soon with minimal effect.

  10. It seems that my illnesses always start in the throat too. Unfortunatley, the sexy, smokey voice phase doesn't last too long and then I'm left with stuffy head and runny nose voice! Will continue to keep those affected by the blast in thoughts and prayers.

  11. Hope you feel better, Edgar!

Love SOHRH... That is on my "must stitch... someday" list.

I remember seeing POTO in the theater when it came out. I went in with very low expectations and was very pleasantly surprised. It was a very surreal experience actually... I was about 7 months (I think... I was pretty far along) pregnant and every single time Christine would sing my daughter would just go nuts. I think she might've been trying to sleep, lol.

    Have a good one!

Those brownies are to scruptious looking and a quick search on the Net produced the recipe. Now wouldn't you know I have ALL of the ingredients.....shame on you!
