GR&DF the weekend is sadly over and once again we - or at least I - am back to the grindstone. It could be worse I could have no stone to grind so I will bitch Little and write much!
Starting off with Friday evening - a friend of ours was having a birthday so we took him out to dinner. He wanted to go to Fattoush - a favorite restaurant of ours - that is about 2 mins from our house. We got there a bit early and found fast parking. So we stopped into a cute little shop -
they sell the best loose tea and fun tea antiques. Directly across the street is the Tea Room -
A really lovely space devoted to sitting and drinking tea and eating small sandwiches!!
Once we where seated at Fattoush and the food came I whipped out the camera and got snaps of our dinners -
Rico had what he always has - Shish Taouk - chicken shish kabob - or as he calls is middle eastern fajitas!
I was determined to have something I had never had before so I chose - Mansef - which is lamb cooked in aged yogurt with almonds and saffron rice - (the lamb is in the tangy yogurt saffron rice ball)
- and Don had M'sakhan - his was the chicken cooked with onions, almonds, sumac and allspice wrapped in filo. It was all very delicious as usual!!
On Saturday I ran around with Dale to some sales - not too much out there but I found some things...
I found a great old framed Christmas Post card a book - and...
this perfect set of Heisey "Greek Key" - cream and sugar. I usually can't afford this pattern on the secondary market (eBay) and seldom see it at any house sale, but this I found and it was totally cheap! Woo-Hoo for me!
On Saturday evening I met up with Roberta and her son Jeremy for dinner. We went to a new restaurant to me called Osha Thai - it was really delicious. I forgot my camera (can you believe it!!) so no snaps of our dinners - I had crab fried rice - something I had never had before and it was fresh and sweet and delicious!! I will certainly be back!! Roberta is out here for the EGA Conference taking place this week. Tomorrow we are meeting up again and spending some cash at the market they are having at the Marriott!! I can't wait as it should be a good time finding some totally necessary stash!!!!
On Sunday was 800th Post Drawing..... after the hag claw mixed up the entries in the BoD (Bowl of Destiny) the who-hounds got involved...
little Lolly wasn't too sure what to make of the BoD - and I think she thought there might be a snack or three in there some where. My little man-dog stepped right up ....
and was going to find a cookie if it killed him - In doing so he pulled out an entry... and the winner is Nancy from "Lovely in Chocolate!!"
Congrats to Nancy and thank you all for entering and for your kind words and thoughts!!!!!
Yesterday I hauled out the tube pan to bake another Holiday treat. Another favorite cake of mine - Pat's Holiday Rum Cake - this recipe came from a friend of my mothers and was a feature every year at the gigantic open house the held during the Holidays. Here is a snap -
I am running late this morning so I will post the recipe tomorrow.
That's about it for today sports fans! Thanks again for stopping by and for taking the time to leave a comment. I do appreciate them!!
Take care,
edgar

All that food looks positively delicious! And that cake - yum!
ReplyDeleteLove those dishes you found. Do you have a big collection?
Congrats to Nancy!!
Oh, gosh! How delicious-looking, Edgar! Makes me want to go to this local place I know; I'm friends with the Lebanese people who run it, but unfortunately it's a gyro lunch shop...but they do have some gems in the dusty not oft-trod parts of the menu. I guess people just can't get over ordering french fries around here!
ReplyDeleteThat cake also looks divine~
Great sugar & creamer find!
ReplyDeleteYou had a busy weekend Edgar! As always I loved the picture of the hounds making the draw. Next time could you please smear something on my entry to tempt them to pick my name out? LOL
ReplyDeleteLove the cream and sugar bowl. A couple of years ago i visited your wonderful city. and we went to tea at Lovejoy's. It was wonderful. can't you
ReplyDeleteOh wow! I wish I had your choice in restaurants where I live. All the food looks so yummy! As does the cake you baked! Glad you had a good time with friends. Nice estate finds too!
ReplyDeleteEdgar, you sure have some great restaurants in San Francisco. What a treat to have so places to try and neat shops to visit. Congratulations to Nancy. I'm looking forward to the cake recipe.
ReplyDeleteCatching up on all the interesting posts and beautiful photos I've missed over the past weel or so. Sorry for the loss of your friend. The poem was lovely and very touching.
ReplyDeleteDrooling over that rum cake..........
Ooooooooh, that cake looks absolutely yummy.
ReplyDeleteI love how all three of the who-hounds are getting into the act there. :) Great shot. And congrats to the winner.
Have fun shopping with Roberta. :)
Congrats to Nancy! And to you for the Greek Key crystals!I love them!Ariadne from Greece!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Nancy! Looks like you had quite the gastronomically-delightful week-end! I LOVE trying all sorts of foods that are new to me - somehow though, i wound up marrying a fellow who thinks that salt is too "spicy" and that vanilla is the only kind of ice cream in the world that holds any appeal. Yet, we're a match made in heaven - go figure... :)
ReplyDeleteThose dishes are so pretty! Whenever I find treasures at sales, I always love to wonder about the stories that they could tell. Who used them? Who bought them? Who treasured them before "someone" decided that they "weren't" treasures anymore.
Sorry for the rambling comment - all that to say, I'm glad you had a great week-end!! LOL :)
Congrats Nancy!!
ReplyDeleteI love how your "who hounds" help in your drawings! Great job!!!!
Your rum cake looks simply delicious. Thanks for sharing...
Congrats to the winner
ReplyDeleteHugs
Your posts always brighten my day. And I can't wait for the cake recipe. Did you like your lamb dish?
ReplyDeleteEdgar, you've got to quit tempting us with all these treats....just kidding. I made the bundt cake this weekend for my folks and it's a new all time fave! So easy, so especially yummy that everyone is requesting it again.

Congrats to Nancy- and again to you Edgar for 800 posts!
ReplyDeleteLook out for Kaye Gibbons novel "Charms for the Easy Life" when perusing those estate sales...a charming read indeed.
I so enjoy my virtual visits to your adventures and little corner of the world- thanks!
Oh, I should have mentioned..
ReplyDeletebut of all the wacky "word verificatons" for leaving a comment that are out there- mine happened to be "Flossess"
Perhaps an overdyed? :)
