Weekend Stuff

Gentle Readers and Dear Friends sorry to not have gotten a post up on Friday, but after trying twice to Post one - I just gave up - Blogger was bugging out for some reason and kept deleting my Posts.....  I just didn't have the time or energy to fight with it so I didn't!!
_______________

I think the high point for the entire weekend was the eclipse yesterday afternoon - not that it got dark at all - just the lighting changed to a very odd grey cast - and I could see the change from a seated position and that meant I didn't have to move - I like the not moving aspect of that!!!!

We did our usual running around Saturday, starting off with the early run out to breakfast and then on to the weekly grocery shopping......  after stopping off at home to drop off the haul from the store - I grabbed the Estate Sale list and we were off again.  There where four Sales this weekend that I wanted to hit - they were all mostly a Bust!!  Along with the Sales and hitting the usual Thrift/Consignment Stores - I found few things...

I found the large "Indian Tree" platter at a Goodwill, I have a medium one already.  I really like the Johnson Bros interpretation of this old pattern, and will pick it up whenever I see some, I found the little "oyster" shaped Japanese? dish at a Thrift Shop.  Here is a close of it....

and the backside...

It fits in my hand and is the size of an oyster shell, the gold is still in great condition as is the rest of the hand work, but what could it have been used for???  We also stopped off at Amoeba records and DVDs and that's where I picked up the 1st Season of "All in the Family" a show I have always enjoyed.
_______________

Baking yesterday I had a hankering for some Brownies ....

I used my go to recipe I got off of Allrecipes, I have posted it before  - They are Called "Best Brownies" and where originally posted by Angie - simply the best!!!!  The two changes I make is to prepare the pan by buttering and then using cocoa powder instead of flour, to keep them from sticking - and - a teaspoon of Powdered espresso to the batter to kick up the chocolate.
_____________

On the stitching front I finishedup my Exchange piece - and it turned out pretty good, if I do say so myself.  Once it reaches its final Home I'll post a snaperoo.  I also worked on Mary Ann and finished up the wonky "vine" that encircles the verse....

Now, to start to work on the flower/strawberry bits....

I had an email from a reader about a older RR piece I worked on - I get more emails about this piece from the Header Shot - so I got it out and took a good look - and a snap - and think I should fill it in as there is quite a bit of "white" space still left....  any suggestions??????  here is a snap for a memory jogger....

_______________

That's about it for today sports fans - thanks for stopping by, do stop again!!

Take care,
edgar

  1. Great finds!

...and those brownies! I can't look as I'm trying not to eat stuff like that now. lol!

Great stitching as always. I'm thinking a spider web or two complete with dangling spiders hanging in the upper corners might be something you could add to the RR piece.

  2. I was sorry not to be on the left coast to see the eclipse..I love the funny light...I agree with Rita perhaps spiders or bats. I think another tree in front of the words would look good too. I know some designers hate when you tweek but I do it often, sometimes totally change the saying.... Mary

  4. I love the platter and the little oyster shell dish, do you use the dishes you find or they just for display? Your new sampler is coming alone beautifully.

  5. Great finds Edgar! I found some wonderful things at an estate sale this weekend too. Your stitching is as beautiful as always, and I love the Halloween one just like it is! The brownies look delicious.

  6. We didn't get to see the eclipse on this side of the country. But I do remember one when my son was little -- you could look at the shadows of leaves on the trees and see little crescent shaped shadows. it was so cool! I love that clam shell dish -- so cool! Your Mary Ann is wonderful -- yay for the vine matching up too! I love that RR piece. Don't ask me for ideas on more to put in though. I'm terrible at that sort of thing. lol!

  7. We were only able to see a little bit of the eclipse here as I think that it started close to sundown. You picked up some great finds once again on your outings, and I love Mary Ann more and more every time I see it.

I'm wondering on your Halloween piece if you had one of the JCS Halloween issues - there may be some things there that you could use to fill in the blank spots.

  8. Hi! I'm just delurking long enough to tell you that you have a really nice blog, and I love to read it and see what you're stitching. Your projects are gorgeous, and you seem to stitch so fast! Thanks for sharing such beautiful things.

  10. I agree with the bats - you could do them at an angle in the upper corners. And if it was me, I'd mirror image the tree on the bottom on the other side to fill in that corner. Do you have some primitive-style bats, perhaps on another chart? That would only leave you with "blanks" to the left and right of the central strip - perhaps some initials for you and Rico?

  11. Oops! Didn't mean central strip - meant the one with the witches. Sorry.

  12. Hi Edgar,
I also think your piece needs some bats, maybe flying around the cat's face? I would stitch a moon in one top corner of the piece with a scary face and in the other corner I would put some spooky clouds, maybe with lighting bolts coming out. Or, better yet, what about incorporating your who-hounds with spooky costumes into the piece, i.e. one dressed like dracula, one a mummy, etc. That would certainly add some whimsy. Please let us know what you decide.

  13. Love your progress on the Mary Ann. Looking great. Your brownies sound delicious. I watched lots of All in the Family this summer while I was home after my surgery. Educated my 18 year old about t.v. growing up -- that and I Dream of Jeannie, I Love Lucy and old, old game show reruns. He was more than thrilled!

  15. What a great find. It looks like the oyster shaped dish was probably used to put sauce in but what do I know. *Shrug*

Mary Ann looks wonderful. Such a cute RR. Hmm... how bout filling it up with some Prairie Schooler Halloween designs? (Cats Bats & Witches comes to mind). Either way, they have plenty of nice ones that I think would work :)

    Hugs,
    Veronica.

  17. Wow, what beautiful finds. And your cake, as always looks absolutely yummy.

I initially thought, maybe some of those little red flowers. But on reading others' comments, I think the spider's web would look perfect in a corner. Do let us know what you decide on :)

  18. Lovely treasures! The little oyster dish looks like the perfect home for favorite buttons! The brownies look yummy and I love your changes and additions to them.

  19. Lovely R&R piece. Maybe some of The Primitive Needle's smaller halloween designs. I also like the idea of the spider web. You do such wonderful work no matter what you put in the openings it will be stunning.

  20. I love the little oyster dish. I would think it was probably a dip container of some sort. Just my guess, but IDK really. I saw on Mouse's blog that you sent her some goodies with the films she won. That's awesome. And grats on the progress on Mary Ann. You've gotten a lot done since the last pic. I have no idea for the Halloween piece, but I agree with you. It does have some empty spaces. Maybe you could chart out some other halloween words?

  21. Great finds. Not sure what you'd use the oyster dish for originally. I'd probably use it for dips or sauces. Congratulations on finishing the vine border on Mary Ann - sure it was a relief when it matched up. Filling in blank spaces for a Halloween piece? Spider webs and bats have been mentioned and I think they would be perfect.
