A Glenn Close Evening

Gentle Readers and Dear Friends...  not too much to report, I have been stitching away on an exchange piece, so not snaps of that, yet.

Today's post will be all about film, and not just any films, but three films by that stunning actress Glenn Close....

This award winning talent on screen is just phenomenal!!  Last night by some quirky coincidence turned out to be a very Close evening of her films.  In the mail I got a Netflix DVD of her film "Albert Nobbs" - 2011.

This is her most recent Award nominated film to date - and what a stupendous effort - starring along with Glenn Close is Janet McTeer (who was magnificent in "Songcatcher" - 2000), and Pauline Collins. A most interesting and unusual film with so many layers and connecting stories that I was totally blown away!!  Well worth a look.

Now, back to my evening...  I usually don't start a Netflix film until about 7:30 or 8, I usually play pop the button flipping around the channels and bitch about TV being so awful for a good long while, you get the picture.  Last night while flipping through the bazillion channels I came up against two other Close films.... The first is one of my all time favoirte films "Dangerous Liaisons" - 1988 -

I love everything about this film  - the look, the story, the acting - just everything!!!  I have probably seen it about 100 times over the years.  I watched this for about an hour or so... then flipped around again and landed on another Close favorite....  "Paradise Road" - 1997 -

a film where she also worked with Pauline Collins - coincidence, I think not. - So I watched the last half of this film before starting "Albert Nobbs."

All three of these films are top notch - and there are many more Glenn Close films to see, from "Mars Attacks"  - 1996 - to "Evening"  - 2007 - she even did a bit part in the film "Hook" - 1991 - hard to pick out, but she is there.  She is part of Hook's crew.

If you get the chance you can't go wrong with a Glenn Close film
- always top quality acting every time!!!

That's about it for today sports fans.  Thanks again for stopping by, do stop again!!

Take care,
edgar

  1. Hi, Edgar:
Thanks for the recommendations - I'm a Glenn Close fan, but will admit to not having seen any of these movies. I watched "Fatal Attraction" for about the 100th time over the weekend :)

  2. I love Glenn Close. I think the first film I saw her in was The World according to Garp- loved John Lithgow in it too! I need to go and add Albert Nobbs to my Netflix queue.

  5. I will have to see if I can watch Albert Nobbs. I do enjoy watching Glenn Close. I also loved Songcatcher. Janet McTeer was very believable in that film.

  6. Definitely will put Albert Nobbs on my Netflix queue. Dangerous Liasons has always been a favorite of mine...love anything to do with French history and John Malkovich is so wonderfully evil in this.

  8. "Dangerous Liaisons" is one of my favorites too, I have it on disk... I like "Cookie's Fortune" too, and in "Mary Reilly" Glenn Close played Mrs. Farraday... I can go on and on and on. Thank you for the tip about "Hook," next time I see it I will be watching for her...

  9. Oh, I love Glenn Close. Dangerous Liaisons is one of my all time favorite movies. I have seen a couple other adaptations of this movie and Glenn is by far the best. I haven't seen her new one but will have to get it from Netflixs. Good to know they have it. Also will have to see Paradise Road. Guess I'll have my own double feature one night soon.
    Have a great weekend.

  10. Hey, Edgar!
Did you watch that TV series "Damages"? It was really good. Most of the seasons are available on NetFlix.

  11. Love Glenn...she was on Jay Leno the other night and was completely delightful! I always think of her in that movie with Michael Douglas...can't think of the name off the top of my head...but she played a psycho woman. Loved her in Dangerous Liasons!
