The Last Couple of Days

Gentle Readers and Dear Friends I am back feeling much better - and got out over the weekend to see some lovely things.  Thanks for all your kind thoughts and comments!!
_____________

One of the things I had been putting off was a visit to see the latest exhibition at the de Young Museum in Golden gate Park.  We have an abundance of great Institutions here in the Bay area and I really do not take advantage of the great things they bring here.  I will see the posters around town, I'll see the banners and the ads on TV - and think "I really need to make the effort to go...."  but time just slips away and then whatever wonderful was there is gone.  Well, I was cutting it close this time - the last day to see some beautiful paintings was yesterday - the exhibit had only been up since October!!  But, I made it and it was so worth it!!  The exhibit was called "Masters of Venice: Renaissance Painters of Passion and Power from the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna."  I had seen many of these paintings the last time I was in Vienna and really wanted to see them  again.  You can look at page after page of pictures in a book and tons photos on the tube but to really "see" the painting in front of you is something special and extraordinary!!  Here are a couple of the paintings that where in the exhibit...

"Allegory of Mars, Venus and Cupid" by Paris Bordone, ca 1560

"Saint Sebastian" by Andre Mantegne ca 1457-59

After leaving the museum and going back to my car I walked through the Park that separates the de Young Museum from the California Academy of Science and took this snap...

There is an upcoming show called "The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk."  It begins in March and should prove to be very interesting!!
______________

I worked some on "Oregon trail" and here is an update snap....

The large square on the right is charted with the initials - I am not sure how I will fill it....  I also need to work in a break line between the verse and this first band.  Since I flipped the sequences of bands the bottom to top there was not a line or break bar there.  I'll figure something out once I get more into the band.  I have had to fix a couple of not charted things - and will go back and fix a couple of other bits not charted that appear on the final photo I like better.  I am really enjoying the colours of this piece!!.
____________

I baked up a nice easy coffee cake yesterday...

It's basic and tasty!!  I'll get that recipe up in the morning.

That's about it for today sports fans.  Thanks so much for your kindnesses and for stopping by - do stop again!!

Take care,
edgar

  3. I'm with you... the colors in "Oregon Trail" are gorgeous. I think that's why Autumn projects are my faves, I just love the colors! Your "trail" is coming along nicely, excited to see the finished product. Enjoy your day!

  4. The exhibit looks like it was a great one! It's funny but I never take in many of the exhibits at our Art Centre. I think that the fact I live outside of the city figures in a lot of the time but I'm missing out on some lovely things.
I love Oregon! It has so many fall colours in it and fall being my favourite season, this one really speaks to me.
Glad to hear you're feeling better now!

  6. You are making some great progress on the Oregon Trail. Not quite what I was expecting. I have a pattern in on of my mags that's actually a map of the Oregon Trail. Have you ever been to the Oregon Trail historical museum place in Oregon? We stopped there on choir tour. It was cool.

  7. I can identify with your post today. I live just 40 miles north of NYC and I haven't been in the city in at least five years. There are so many shows and museums exhibits I'd love to visit but my husband commutes daily [at rush hour, that's 1 and 1/2 hours each way] and would rather have a root canal without anesthesia than drive in on the weekend. And here on the west bank of the Hudson, there isn't any commuter train service into the city like on the Westchester side so going on my own means a torturous 2 hour local stop bus trip each way. And weekend service stops quite early in the day, around 6pm. I haven't seen Van Gogh's Starry Night [at the Metropolitan] or Max Ernst's Geranium [at MOMA] in years and they are my two favorite paintings. It's been ages since I have seen a ballet or modern dance performance. I can't say I really miss the Broadway shows ... there hasn't been much recently that I've wanted to see ... most of Broadway is just expensive re-workings of pop culture from TV, movies or rock'n'roll, lately. Not much serious theater. But, oh, the museum shows I have missed!
And, on another topic, I am loving your Oregon Trail sasmpler.

  8. Some of the comments and your post made me smile thinking how many people have not seen the Acropolis even when living in Greece! I have seen all the museums in my city but always guiding friends who visit the city! I suppose we need to have a reason to go!LOL!
Now about Oregon I have a detail to tell you to think about. I don't know if it is the photo or it is the pattern itself but the sixth star on the banner with the light colour does not show in comparison to all the rest of the stars!AriadnefromGreece!

I have been working on Elizabeth Hancock sampler all weekend and it has stars like that too, which I have been enjoying. Will be posting a pic this evening. Have a great day!

  12. You've made pretty good progress on "Oregon Trail" and I have lived less than 20 minutes by metro rail from Washington DC for over 15 years and have not seen the all of the museums and sites here yet. Maybe someday.
