A Weekend Posting

Gentle Readers and Dear Friends I do hope you all had a wonderful weekend.  Mine was great - since it was three days long how could it not be!!  Thank you all for all the kind comments about the Valentine I sent to Carol.  it seems that Blogger makes it harder and harder to use, sorry for the odd word verification.   I read that my HOE Ornament arrived at its new home with Erin over at Fairy Tales and French Knots.  Here is a snaperoo of the piece I made for her...

Quite a few of us stitched this piece from Mary Garry for this Exchange.  I have always liked this chart and was happy that Erin likes what I sent.
____________

Keeping with a stitching theme today I had a finish over the weekend....

"Tis the Season" Blackbird Designs - 36ct LL Pear - using the recommended Belle Soie

I have been dragging out and enjoying this stitch far too long, but all good things come to an end.
____________

We also got to an Estate Sale - and to call it a mad house would be an understatement.  There were way too many people crowded in one little house and way too many grabby types!!  Eventually I made my way upstairs and in one of the bedrooms was a gigantic pile of linen - from tablecloths to napkins, lace, tatting, pulled work, Berlin lace everything just in a great big pile -  most of the pieces where in not very good condition, lots of holes and stains.  But, digging away (I love to dig) I did pull out a small sampler - not very old and in a very crumpled condition, but very sweet...

The linen is very thick.  I think this was some sort of kit that was printed linen and the stitcher did the decorative stitching.  It is about 8x10 and you can still see the tape that must have held it to some sort of backing for framing.  I think that for .50 it was a total bargain!
___________

It is also that time of year for candy makers to go into overtime....

So, of course I did my part and made it to Walgreens for a sack of delicious black jelly beans!!  A most delicious treat!!

I think I'll wrap up todays post with a snap of my ever-blooming Christmas Cactus'....

This crazy thing is blooming about every three months now - and even the little red one is sort of on the same schedule - since I took this shot on Saturday a bunch of additional blooms have popped out on both plants.
____________

There you go sports fans - thanks again for stopping by, do stop again!!

Take care,
edgar

Beautiful stitching and great find on the sampler at the estate sale.

Your Christmas Cacti are beautiful.

Your stitching on the exchange piece and your weekend finish is excellent and the cacti are beautiful. What I really like are the memories brought back of my mother, who loved the black jelly beans. Growing up she was the only person I knew of who liked them and my younger sister and I would always save them for her.

Oh lovely stitching and Black Jelly Beans are the best! Black scottie dogs are even better if you see them.

Congrats on your finish! I know just what you mean about spending way too much time with certain pieces. Some you just enjoy that much! Love the exchange piece too.

Lovely finishes Edgar! Black Jelly Beans - they look and sound delicious - so they taste of liquorice?

My Christmas cactus was a real failure again this year. It flowered too early for Christmas but I did notice yesterday that it's budding again!

I love your stitching! I want to start Tis the Season soon! Yours is beautiful! And I love your little estate piece--it definitely looks like it was one of those little stamped pieces--and the colors are perfect for today--Fat Tuesday!! Today was the perfect day to show it!

Darling Mary Garry finish (I love that little pattern but have yet to stitch it) and the BBD - oooh la la!!! Very pretty, indeed. I LOVE finding piles of linens at estates sales and feel a need to always come home with something!

Great BBD finish! Love the exchange you stitched as well. Cool find at the estate sale -- how could you beat that price? As for the black jelly beans -- nope, I'm a chocolate girl. lol!

Tis The Season is gorgeous, and the little Santa is very sweet! I love the sampler you found. When I go to estate sales the linens are the first thing I try to find. Beautiful Christmas Cactus. You must have it in the perfect lighting.

Great finish Edgar! I'm gathering all the supplies for that design and can't wait to start. Your Christmas cacti are very pretty. I managed to keep one alive for 6 years! Makes me want to go out and buy another! Now to see if I can get thru WV the first time!

Your exchange piece is cute. It must be good if so many others stitched it too. I love Tis the Season. I'm impressed with your Christmas cactuses. Mine got too much water when it was outside last fall and died. :(

Edgar your stitching is totally gorgeous I have loved watching this piece come to life and it is now a must do for me as well- thanks for being such an inspiration with your lovely stitching.

Your Tis the Season is fabulous! What a beauty. Great job! ..... I hit "edit" to come back here and get a new verification scramble. I'm on a roll - 35 straight! Don't want to break my winning streak - wish me luck.

Congratulations on finishing 'Tis the Season! I love love love that piece but can't justify buying that whole book just to stitch that one thing. My particular weakness is Cadbury Creme Eggs...your black jellybeans are probably way healthier! ;) PS--if you want to turn off the crazy words, I have directions on my blog!

Beautiful exchange and finish.
How lovely you rescued the stitched piece and gave it a good home.

'Tis the season looks gorgeous. How do you plan to finish it up? Do post pics of that as well
Wow, that's quite a bargain. Love reading your sale adventures :)

Tis the Season is amazing Edgar! I love it and really do hope I have the time to stitch this one this year.

You always manage to find such interesting items at your estate sales. That piece of stitching was a real bargain. Are you planning on framing it or perhaps a pillow?

Love your Christmas cactus! I just brought one home from the church for some TLC. The church wasn't warm enough for it and everytime it started to bud, the buds would fall off before they opened.

I have some catching up to do on your blog! For some reason your posts only show up every once in a while on my Reading List. I too love your "Tis the Season finish... it is absolutely beautiful!!

Can't wait to see how you finish off your estate find!

Enjoy your jelly beans... they are one of my favourites too :^) Careful not to get any black spots on your stitching!
