"B" is for Stag? or What a Big Rack You've Got!

Gentle Readers and Dear Friends thank you so much for all the kind comments about my post yesterday.   "Harvest Blessing"  was a fun sampler to stitch - and I have a few more Pocketbook Needlebook newsletters so there will be more of these little samplers in the future.
__________

I got the letter "B" stitched up and started on "C" - these letters really do stitch up very fast.
Here is a snap..

Here's a thought about this sampler that has been working in my brain......usually when an alphabet sampler has images along with the letters - typically the image begins with the corresponding letter, but with this sampler I think that the images are just Christmas/Holiday/Winter things that have nothing to do with the letter.  I realize this is a French chart and the french words are different than the English words - but my French is good enough to sort out what the translation could be and I don't see any correlation.  Not that it matters - just a thought.    Any other thoughts out there readers????
I am really not liking the way the flash makes the stitching look so sparse - I am doing this 1 over 2 on 36ct and the coverage looks fine to me - except when I see a snap  - then the linen seems to just shine through - oh well, IRL it doesn't look so sparse.

There you go sports fans. Thanks again for stopping by and leaving a comment!!  Until tomorrow....

Take care,
edgar

  1. I have the same issue when I use the flash. It makes my piece look like I used an 11-count fabric! But if I don't use the flash, the colors don't look right. Looking forward to seeing your finished product...

  2. Aren't male deer also called a buck?
Either way, I like the look of this one and can't wait to see more.

  3. Hahaha...yeah, maybe the designer decided to "buck" tradition and just put random things with the letters. But maybe we have a puzzle ahead of us! Sounds like fun! =)

I think the "A" may be for "avancement", which means advancement or promotion, but also...wait for it...sledding! The deer is actually more puzzling. Although, "buck" fits for English, the French is cerf...unless it's a female deer, in which case (I'm not making this up), she is a "biche".

  4. Oh, duh, a "biche" would not have a rack...at least, not if she is a deer. Hmmm, I better stop before I get myself in trouble here. ;)

  5. Cute piece! This will be fun to watch grow. I'll go with B for buck. Have a great week!

  6. Ok that title just grabbed me right away!! Too funny. I'm leaning toward the "buck" interpretation.

  7. So glad you explained this chart is French. I couldn't figure out what a sled had to do with the letter A.

As for coverage - looks great to me. Maybe try to take the pics without the flash?

  8. The first thing that came to mind for the "B" is buck. Not sure if that's what he designer had in mind but that's what makes sense to me. Looks great!

  9. Edgar I think you're right. This chart is a way to celebrate only Christmas time and winter.
I look at the complete picture and the letters aren't at all the translation of the designs.
B is maybe a "biche" (female of the deer but a "biche" hasn't got woods no ? and the baby of the "biche" is a "faon" so I can't understand the B...).
The others designs are the same so I think it's better for you to continue your wonderful without trouble... Now your only trouble is to read my bad English !!!
    Have a nice day.

  10. I like it! Interesting about the non-correlation between the letters and pics though. My french is rusty to say the least so I won't be any help there.

  11. Great stitching again,I love French charts and never change them back to English , its a good talking point.
Can't wait to see it grow each day.

  12. You are moving right along with this. When things like the buck/stag/reindeer don't make sense, I usually just say, "The B is silent." and go on.

  13. I thought it was B for Buck but then you mentioned it's a french chart so I have no idea! Great stitching though!

My french is rusty, forgive the spelling please.

I love the blitzen suggestion and the sled facts are very intersting.

  16. OK your other commenters are probably right about "buck" but the first thing that came to my mind was "big-ass deer".

  17. The title of today's post made me laugh. Random Christmasy motifs sounds more interesting than the norm.

  18. Whatever the letters stand for, this piece is looking wonderful! I can't wait to see more of it.

  21. I know what you mean about it not really looking so sparse irl.

I was going to ask Marc your question about the item/letter matching, but I see in the comments that you have gained a response from a Native! :D

I think it is fine that they are motifs unreferenced by their letter pairs; after all we all know our letters here! It is a decoration, not a learning aid! :D

  24. I love this sampler even if the letters don't match the motifs!

  25. I think you're right Edgar. I know that Buck corresponds to the B and is used in both languages but I think that's just a coincidence. The first image is a sled which I'm sure is traineau. Either way, I love the sampler. It could be a conversation piece, non?
