Its a Spec-tac-cular Day!!

I had a call from the Eyes on 24th that my glasses had come in and so that was the stop on the way home. I had Rico take two snaps - one of the current 2 year old ones and then the new ones....

These are my old glasses - you really can't tell it but they are a sort of brown - but they seem to have photographed much darker than they are IRL. Now here are the new ones....

and you can sort of tell that these are a darker metally matte green/olive. These are super light-weight and are made by an English company called Jai Kudo. If you click the name you go to their very fancy site - I had never heard of them, but it trying on the different glasses I picked up a couple JK frames and really liked the way they felt. That is taken care of for another two years!!

It was very interesting to read the comments about glass or no glass in framing. I like glass as I agree that it protects the pieces from the elements and from people touching the stitched piece. It is a wonder that so many people feel the need to touch something.

The flicker was a super one last night - "GIANT" - 1956 - starring the ever gorgeous mega star Elizabeth Taylor along with Rock Hudson, James Dean, Jane Withers and Mercedes MacCambridge. I love this movie and have seen it a ton of times, but it has been a while and it was so nice to see it again. Its a long one at 201 mins but I would highly recommend it!!

A publicity shot for GIANT

There you go sports fans!! Have a great weekend and remember same Bat time same Bat channel come Monday!!!

Take care,
edgar

I DO like brown specs, but the new style is quite spiffy indeed. :)

New glasses are fun, but they DO take a bit of getting used to, right?

Ooooooo....*love* the new frames! I really dig the new look but then I'm totally into eyeglasses being a "four-eyes" myself. Cool pick!

Great specs. I like that new style very much.

Giant, oh my, what can be said about that great movie. I can remember my family piling into the old chevy to go to the drive-in. Loved it then, love it now as an old-timer. Another big epic we went to the drive-in to see was The Ten Commandments!

Love the new glasses, although the old ones look great too! I need new ones too but would rather spend that money on stitchy stuff! LOL!!

Very nice! Tres' chic:)
Hope you keep all your old frames....what's old always becomes new again. Your brown ones are still very much in style too. I have a friend who changes his glasses depending on the color he wants for the day or the mood he's in. Yep, he's a frame collector:)

Love the photos of the new glasses. I think we should all have our license/ID photos done like that...just a close-up of the eyes. Then you don't have to worry about smiling/not smiling. The eyes say so much more about us anyway.

As I climb out of the hole of respiratory illness...I get a lovely shot of the new glasses :) I like your new ones Mr. Man :)
AND I just got some new specs too...mine are rimless with transition lenses...the jury is still out on if I like them or not - I think I look like a man (specifically my father) and Keith says I look fine. Hmmm...

Love the new specs! Your brown frames still look nice too, but having a change gives you a new outlook on life, at least for a while! You do a double take when you look in the mirror!

As for Giant, it is a GREAT movie! Don'tcha just love Liz's eyebrows? A couple of months back, when B&N was having their buy 2, get one free sale, and my hubby had a stack of gift cards from the holidays and birthday, we were able to leave with our arms loaded with new, old movies. He had never seen Giant before, so naturally that was one of our finds. I remember seeing it at the theater, back when you didn't have to clear out the theater between screenings. I went with my Mom to the afternoon matinee, and because my Dad was working later that evening, we watched it a second time before heading home.
Have you ever seen Rock in All That Heaven Allows with Jane Wyman? Or Magnificent Obsession?

Love the stylish new specs, Edgar!

I caught a bit of "Giant" last night. Like you, I've seen it several times, enjoying it each time. And as an heirloom sewing fan, I really love the blouse Miss Taylor is wearing in the publicity pic with all that lace insertion. :)

Hey Edgar, great frame choice! I like the rimless myself, but you have to be cautious when taking a cat nap on the couch, they could get pushed out of shape easier than the entire framed version! I speak from experience! Carol E. in AZ

Hi Edgar. I also enjoy watching old movies while I stitch. I ran across this one at our local library and enjoyed it so much I found a copy on DVD and bought it.
"It Happened to Jane" with Doris Day, Jack Lemmon and Ernie Kovacs.

The glasses look great! I might go with rimless this time - less heavy I think.

Edgar, my father (a real West Texas cowboy) grew up in Van Horn, TX, not far from where Giant was filmed. We visited the hotel were the actors stayed during the filming and saw a lot of neat old original photos framed in the lobby. A truly wonderful movie!
