A Little Spring

Gentle Friends, over the weekend we headed down to the beach and the far end of Golden Gate Park to see some season-changing things... the highlight of this annual visit is the Dutch windmill tulip gardens given to the city of San Francisco in 1902 by Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands.  The windmills once pumped fresh groundwater to Golden Gate Park and helped to convert the sand dunes that once covered this area into the man-made botanical area it has become... here are some snaps ...

... they change the colors of the tulips and this year they were lovely red and yellow with lots of yellow California Poppies scattered about.....

... there were also some cyclamen and primroses for some ground cover, overall it was nice to visit and so pretty.... even with the really cold weather we've been having.....  Spring has sprung here by the Bay!!

Since we were so close we also stopped by the beach, the tide was out and the ocean flat and blue!!

.... looking toward the Marin Headlands ...

There you go sports fans!!  Thanks for stopping by do stop again!!

Take care,
edgar

  1. This is my favorite area in San Francisco. Loved visiting my Great Aunts and then spending the afternoon in the gardens. Thank you for reawakening this memory :)

  9. Golden Gate Park is pretty incredible when you take the time to walk through rather then drive. I had no idea, until a few years ago, that there are buffalo in there!!
