A Stone, A Finish and a New Start

Gentle Friends, usually one thinks of the Blarney Stone on St Patrick's day....  I had a run in with another stone, a kidney stone, on Monday.  I actually felt it about two weeks ago , but having never had one before didn't know what it was and the pain went away so I didn't think about it again...... until this past weekend, Sunday morning to be precise.  And I am nothing if not stubborn.  So I hung onto a heating pad all morning and the pain went away again....  then it came back Sunday night, Rico kept insisting I go to the hospital, but I kept resisting.  Then Monday morning after I got to work I was doubled over in pain and went back home to my heating pad and the fetal position in bed with the who hounds......  Rico left work and came home and unlike the "feral cat" I had become... hissing and fighting to not go to the Emergency Room, it hurt too bad and I gave in and went.  After a few hours, a CT scan and some great drugs....... they sent me home with the knowledge that yes, I had a kidney stone, and some prescriptions for more drugs.  So that's what I have been up to the past 4 days - just taking pills and trying to feel somewhat normal - and waiting for this stone to pass........
______________

  6. So sorry to hear about your kidney stone! I have had several, so I can totally relate. Be sure to drink lots of water (but I'm sure you already knew that). The last one I had was the size of a nickel and I had to have it blasted with ultrasounds (lithotripsy) twice! I told my doctor that for the $32k it cost, I wanted the stones back to be polished and set in a necklace. Hope it doesn't come to that for you!

  10. Oh my gosh, you poor thing! I've never had a kidney stone, but I've taken friends to the hospital who have been suffering from one, so I know how much pain you must be in. I hope you are feeling somewhat better with the drugs and that the kidney stone passes too. Ugh. Your stitching finish is gorgeous! The red is wonderful! Love your new start too. This one is a biggie, isn't it? Gorgeous so far!

  16. Edgar, how sad. I spent a few hours with my son in the ER a few years back. He spent the time cursing and wondering why " women ever had children if this it what it was like". Every half hour the pain meds were increased until he looked at me and said and i quote " this is what club med must be like...heaven" As he left he kept apologizing to every one for his outburst. I hope you are feeling better real soon.

    Beautiful stitching.

  25. I feel your pain Edgar, I have suffered with one of those beauties myself. However mine didn't seem to pass, when I went back for my ultrasound a week later they couldn't find anything, so it either disintegrated or its still floating around in there, or it passed and I didn't feel it (which is very unlikely). I got told to drink lots of orange juice aswell as the acid helps to break them down. Good luck!

  31. My heart goes out to you, Edgar, and can assure you this too shall pass. Your finish and start are
both beautiful and inspiring. I cannot imagine your stitching while writhing, but we all know how distracting determined stitching can be. Hope you are back on track in no time.

So sorry to hear about the kidney stone--I've had several--no fun at all! I even got the surgery, which wasn't really that bad, and it fixed everything, so it was worth it! Drink tons and I'm sure it'll come on through!!!
PS--I stayed in the jacuzzi with the jet pointed at my side!!! Felt great until I went to get out!! So, I stayed in there forever, all shriveled up!!! LOL

  35. I'm catching up on blog reading this morning & am so sorry to hear you had to suffer a kidney stone! My father, who at least once pulled one of his own teeth & never, ever went to the doctor, once had a kidney stone (unbeknownst to him at the time) & begged my mother to take call the doctor. I'm glad you received care & meds & are on the mend now. Beautiful sampler! Thank you so much for listing your thread conversions. I will still never forgive you for not keeping your conversions for the Scarlet Letter Christmas piece : ) Many hugs to you this lovely Sunday morning!

  36. Oh Ouch!!! Sorry to hear you've been suffering all week. I'm surprised when you were in the hospital they didn't blast the thing into smaller bits using ultrasound. Anyway I hope you're feeling better now. Congrats on the sampler finish.

I hope that the upcoming week is good and pain free for you.

  39. Yep, those stones make you wish for death but you're afraid you're gonna live. Hope it passes soon. Drugs are the only way through this. Hang in there.

  42. Oh Edgar! So sorry you are hurting! I was worried something had happened and am so glad you went to the ER. My manager had one years ago and his wife googled home remedies for it and he passed it in less than 24 hrs! Wild horses couldn't keep him from work but he was out for 2 days. Hope you are better soon.

  45. Ouch on the kidney stone! Hope it passes soon!! Your Winter band is fabulous! Such a pretty design and lovely floss conversion. The Spanish Mystery sampler is looking good so far.

  46. Kidney stones are a BEAST!!! Pain-wise, I've had babies w/o drugs and I'd do that again any day vs having another stone.
I hope the drugs will help. Stay on top of those little suckers...you don't want them to keep growing and annoy you again.!!!!
I'll add you to my prayer list.
(Oh, and not to sound too motherly here, but stop being so stubborn. That much pain is happening for a reason!!). Lol

  47. I'm posting here almost a MONTH after you posted your band sampler finish, but I just had to comment on how BEAUTIFUL it turned out! I actually have the chart in my stash, but didn't realize this was Hibernation Day! I absolutely LOVE your interpretation!! I'm usually far too "chicken" to make changes to a chart - I need to start testing the waters and try my hand at switching up some things. Your work is always an inspiration, Edgar! I also love the Spanish Mystery Sampler (just commented on your updated pic today). You've chosen yet another masterpiece! Congrats on the finish on Hibernation Day, and thanks for sharing your thread changes.
