".... and They Sinned" A Quick Update

Gentle Friends thanks so much for stopping by this morning.  Not much going on here, it's pretty chilly (for SF) and we are expecting the rain to swoop in this afternoon/early evening ... leading us into a very wet weekend - or that's what we've been told to expect.  Nothing at all on the agenda for the next few days except a New Years Day party - an annual event given by some very close friends - I missed their Christmas Party, I just was not in the mood - but I really am looking forward to Tuesday.
____________

I said I would get a recent shot of ATS up today, and although I have been plugging away at the grass, there seems to be miles yet to go -  there is just so much green to fill!!!  Here's the snaperoo.....

As you can see I am doing the darker "Shutter Green" stripes first, then the lighter "Green Apple" will go ( should go) pretty fast, all the counting through the different bits really slows me down for some reason.  I am happy I chose to stitch the grass, as I like the visual weight it gives the piece - and no matter that it is taking so long to get stitched, and even if I go a little in January, I am still enjoying this stitch very much -  and will miss this "monster" after when it's completed.
______________

On Wednesday we lost a super voice of the "60's."

 Fontella Bass - 1940-2012

Fontella Bass passed away from complications caused by a heart attack she suffered at the beginning of December.  Her signature song that she is best know for is "Rescue Me" - 1965 - I found this great clip on You Tube.....

The biggest hit of her career, and one she will long be remembered for - RIP sweet songstress!!
____________

That's about it for today sports fans, have a super weekend and wonderful New Years eve!!!

Take care,
edgar

Wow - that grass is killer on the eyes I would imagine! It is coming along though and looks great! I love this pattern but I don't know that I could tackle the monster.

What a beauty! I love the way you've already put the year in. That's what I should do with HoHRH. Maybe I'll finally finish the darn thing after 6 years!

Happy New Year to you, Rico and all the who hounds! HUGS!

A beautiful piece! Your stitching is perfect. Can't wait to see it completely finished. It has been so nice to follow your progress on this one.
I heard of Fontella's passing this morning. I also saw where Michael Clarke Duncan passed away earlier this year. I must have been away working when that happened. He was only 54. So sad. He was a good man.
Happy New Year to you and Rico. Enjoy the party!

John & I always loved Fontella Bass & Rescue Me. We were so young when we started dating that John could sing that song & sound exactly like Fontella : ) Have a great new year!

Edgar: Beautiful piece, I look forward to the freming I bet you will find someting beautiful to frame it with.
A little trivia: The label that carried Fontella Bass had not had a million seller for years until they signed on Fontella, she sold more records that year then any other on the same label which saved the company.
Lots of people think this was an original from Aretha Franklin but no such luck it truely is a great song from Fontella.
Happy Newyear

Best Wishes for a wonderful 2013!

Great progress! I like your idea of stitching one green than the other. I do so understand that counting around motifs, it's a real pain but it is going to be worth it.

ATS is looking great. Once it is finished, it will be so beautiful that you'll forget how painful the grass was to stitch. Have a wonderful New Year!

I love the grass in ATS it gives another dimension to this sampler that I've never seen in any other. I enjoyed the trip to the past with the video, it is so sad to loose yet another beautiful singer. Trivia question for you, Can you name the dance the back-up singers were doing? And yes I'm telling my age because I remember this song. Scroll down for answer.

Answer: The Jerk :-)

Such great progress on ATS! Wow, I'm actually thinking I might start that one in the new year...still trying to finish up some other things first.
I think the grass is a must stitch as well. It really grounds the piece. Good luck finishing it.
So sad to hear about Fontella. She had amazing talent. Thanks for sharing that song with us.
I hope you have a wonderful New Years party. Sorry to hear you weren't up to celebrating at Christmas. Such a hard time of year to lose someone you love. May you blessed with peace and comfort. I'm thinking about ya! Hugz!!!

Happy New Year, Edgar! You're piece is a beautiful inspiration to me. I spent today preparing my fabric to start mine this month. I think I may even start a blog myself and keep track of my stitching progress in 2013. I have lots of good intentions for the upcoming year, but And They Sinned is definitely the piece I'm most excited to work on.
