A Post About the Weekend

Gentle Readers and Dear Friends the weekend was very nice and relaxing!! As the week wound down the weather heated up and by Saturday we were in the upper 80's and for out here that's a scorcher!!  But, Friday evening the winds died down and the sun set with this glorious sky...

Taken from our balcony looking North East across Noe Valley towards downtown SF.

.... and the old saying - red at night sailors delight... held true, as the weather was dry and lovely Saturday and Sunday - if not a bit hot Saturday.  Sunday early morning the winds picked up and the cool/cold Pacific breezes blew in and we had a perfect SF day - cold and clear most of the day, then the fog rolled in and Summer in the city was back in full force.
___________

One of the things I accomplished was to finally wind up and organize my DMC.  For the longest time this project has sat bagged up and forlorn...

..... I finally got it together to get the skeins of floss on bobbins and in order!!

Now, I have all the colours in order and handy - I felt Like I had killed a bear when I finished.  I was amazed at how may duplicate bobbins and skeins I have - some colours I must have bought a dozen times!!  That at least will not happen again, I hope!
_____________

On the stitching front I worked some on Mary Ann....  just lots of grass stitching...

Sorry about the wrinkles.  I am stitching the grass diagonally to add some visual interest.  Since there are three rows of colour I am stitching the two narrow rows leaning left and the fat middle row leaning right, it sure gets tedious after a while!!  I also worked some on the Cottages...

I converted all of May's recommended DMC's to over dyed floss and I'm really pleased with the outcome.  I am very behind on this piece and I plan on playing catch up this week.
____________

Yesterday after Mass and a quick breakfast at Eddie's Cafe, we made it to the Grove Street Farmers Market.  The summer fruits and flowers were just great....

_____________

That's about it for today sports fans.  Thanks for stopping by, do stop again!!

Take care,
edgar

  1. I love both your WIPS. And the DMC's -- good for you for getting that done! It looks so pretty and colorful in the boxes. I wish I had such a complete collection of DMC. Reading your description of the weather out there makes me miss those SF type weather days. Ah, so lovely!

  3. Call me a floss nerd, but there's just something about looking at a full floss box. LOL! And those cherries, they are my downfall this time of year...like little bits of candy! Yum!

  13. Wow, you sure did a lot of winding. I'm sure it was worth it as the floss looks so nice, neat, and organized. Plus, it's nice to be able to take a true inventory of supplies. Mary Ann looks simply beautiful.

  14. Gorgeous photo and OMG I LOVE Ranier cherrys. They haven't arrived in stores here yet; I always splurg and buy just one every summer. We had your broccoli salad this weekend and my husband loved it! Thanks again for posting it.

  17. What can I say? I love the WIPs, the sunset is gorgeous, & the farmers' wares looks wonderful! Congratulations on getting all your DMC organized. That is a huge job! I got some small Ziploc baggies, made labels numbered in order per their DMC numbers (3 or 4 numbers per baggie) & then I file those in plastic shoe boxes. I came up with this system back when I was in my cross stitch life #2. Works for me but I see where it would be really nice to just look & see all the colors at one time for the most part : )

  18. Did you get the little labels for the DMC? I do bobbins as well, except since I acquired most of my DMC in college when I had nothing better to do, I organized it right away.

Can't believe they turned off the pool heater. In Texas, they're pretty unnecessary but I can see the need for one is San Francisco.

Oh, and the flat stanley is cute. I have that book and it's sequel. Kinda comes with wanting to be an elementary school teacher.

  19. Your samplers are looking great Edgar. I can't imagine winding all those tags!! Although come to think about it, I think that I had to do that years ago. It seemed to take forever! But how nice when all the threads are organized. The sunset is beautiful. How lucky you are to see that!

  20. Ha, last summer I decided to wind all my DMC onto bobbins too, I thought I would never finish and get them all into boxes. I never want to have to do that again!

  21. Hi Edgar,

What a beautiful scene you could take a photo!
And your WIPs are looking gorgeous!
    Especially Mary Ann!

  22. What a beautiful sunset!! Great job on the dmc! Can I send mine to you for organizing?? ;)
    Your sampler is beautiful!
Yummy on all of those cherries!!

  23. You did a great job on organizing your DMC. I absolutely detest winding floss on bobbins so now all of my floss resides in small bags stored on rings.
    Those cherries look so delectable!!
