A Mid-Week Posting

Gentle Readers and Dear Friends thanks so very much for all your kind comments on the stitching projects in yesterday post.  Last night I was a total slacker and didn't even pick up a needle.... just sat there cover in the who-hounds watching the boob tube.
__________

I finally got the recipe for Broccoli Salad posted over at BlackSheep Bakes.  It is a super easy salad to get together and easily adjusted to your personal taste.  I know there a many 100's of version of this out there, this is just the way I make it - if you have any questions please feel free to ask.
__________

I did have a sort of a general question for everyone - I won a while back on the Bay of evil - a set of Santa Charts that call for DMC Flower Thread - I have never used it and don't have any in my heap o'stash - and find that it was discontinued by DMC - my question is "What was the colour palette like?" and - "Does it convert to the regular DMC numbers?"  I think I am SOL on this stuff and will just have to shift the colours myself - but if you know of a conversion chart out there I would love to see it and get a copy. - Thanks!!

That's going to wrap it up for today sports fans - sort of short and sweet.  Thanks again for stopping by, do stop again!!

Take Care,
edgar

  1. Edgar, I found a conversion chart for you...http://www.cross-stitch-centre.co.uk/acatalog/dmc_flower_thread_conversion.html Good luck with the new chart!

  2. Flower thread is very similar in thickness to pearl cotton but it has a matte finish rather than shinny. I think the colors convert the same.

  3. Hi Edgar, I'm more familiar with Danish Flower Thread. Let me check my thread stash...I have a bunch from years ago and there may be some DMC flower thread in that. Will let you know. I agree with Pam that the flower threads are more of a matte or flat finish, but the ones I'm familiar with are not as thick as pearl cotton. Vera

  4. DMC Flower Thread has/had a matte finish, but is finer than perle coton, and is not the same as Danish Flower Thread (although both are matte finish). Needlepoints Ltd in Garden Grove CA still has some stock. Please contact Diana there 877-894-5242. She does mail order, but doesn't have a cart on the website needlepointsltd.com

  5. I have quite a bit of the flower thread. I haven't used it in years. I would be glad to send you some if you want to use it for this project and if I have the right colors.

  6. Hello, I'm new to your blog and read with interest your need for flower thread. I've recently got back into cross stitching and while starting my stash bid for a big lot of dmc thread on the bay of evil. I though they were regular dmc but I didn't read carefully enough and ended up with a very large lot of flower thread that I have yet to use. Please let me know what colours and amounts you require and I'll have a look for you. I have many colours and many of each. Maybe we could do a little swap?

  8. I stocked up on flower thread when I heard they were going to be discontinued and would be happy to share some of my doubles for what you need. I like their Color and use them often. I think you only need one ply instead of two it depends on what I'm stitching. The numbers on the flower skein corresponds to the number on regular dmc. You use the last three numbers...if you need number 2728 flower thread you can use 728 regular dmc in it's place. I think the flower threads have more depth in Color even with one ply. Hope I helped let me know. Nancy

  9. After reading the comments above, looks like you may be in luck in the flower thread department! I was going to tell you to be happy not to have to deal with it, as I seem to recall that it is something of a bear to stitch with. But maybe that's just crappy memory. Good luck with your conversion/hunt for the fibers!

  10. I always thought it was too "fuzzy" when using it and did not make a nice finish. I may have some left which I will glady give away. I agree that the last three digits in the flower thread number corresponds to DMC. I would use DMC or silk and not bother with flower thread.

  11. Edgar, I have some DMC flower thread in my stash that I bought when it was discontinued. I use it mainly to lace projects for framing. You use the last three digits of the flower thread number, and that should be the DMC color you need. If you decide you want to use the flower thread (I'd prefer the plain old DMC), let me know what the numbers are that you need, and I'll check to see if I have any matches for you! They're yours if you'll use them.

  12. Looks like you have plenty of offers for the DMC flower thread. I personally don't like it and I think you would be happier doing the pattern in anything else. I think a HDF premium floss would be a good swap but may not have great coverage if you are using a 28 count fabric. I have taken a few classes from Meg Shinall and use her brand of Flower Thread. It is wonderful to stitch with and comes in a pretty large array of colors. It is great for hardanger and hemstitched borders where it blends right into the linen threads. Good luck with your new project!

  13. For the most part, chop the "2" off the front of the DMC flower thread number and that gives you the regular DMC number (e.g., 2504 = 504). If there's no corresponding 3-digit regular DMC number, it's one of the 3000 series and you need the conversion chart. This is the "quick and dirty" conversion. =)

I think Terri at Madonna Needleworks in morgan Hill carries them still. You might give her a call and see. shes got an amazing collection of threads in her large store. Definitely worth the drive (which would take you about an hour and a half)

My stitching group, stitchers by the Bay will be there on Staurday this weekend, if you care to drop by then and say hi :)
