A Cottage Finish

Gentle Readers and Dear Friends thank you for all your kind comments for yesterdays post - I really do appreciate them all!!
____________

I finished up February Cottage last night and got some less than great snaps of it.  I did make quite a few changes in floss as I went along.  When I first saw the colour palette I was not very enthused to say the least....  I got on my high horse and picked some much less bright shades of pink to stitch with....  then.. when it actually came to stitching the house my lightest shde of pink just faded into the linen and was sort of blah - so I went back to the stash heap and found some other choices to stitch with.  I eventually landed with a brighter over dyed pink - WDW "Camellia" and kept one of my pink changes CC "Sea Shelley" - I also added a blue - WDW "Cadet" and another brownish/red WDW "Chrysanthemum."  I did away with most of the white stitching (there was enough of that in January) and kind of did my own thing with this block....  here's a snap -

and here is a snap of both blocks....

I ordered the March Block  - but the only over dyed floss called for is WDW "Pecan" the rest are DMC choices....  That makes me sad... i love stitching with over dyed floss.... I may just have to shift some of those floss' to bright green over dyed...  I do like green!!
____________

That's about it for today sports fans - thanks again for stopping by, do come again!!

Take care,
edgar

  2. Your February Cottage looks so pretty! I like the color changes you made. I can understand your decision to cut out the white - not one of my favorite colors to stitch with. I like the result without the white. The piece looks more striking and vibrant without that color.

  7. Belated congratulations on your finish, Edgar. (Tried to comment yesterday, but the page just wouldn't load for some reason.) I just love the colors you chose. I'd have never thought to put those floss colors together on Havana linen - it looks wonderful!

I also like your choices for the February cottage piece. :)

  10. Love the cottages ... but I am being very good and restraining myself from making new purchases at least until I have finished all my class projects from the various retreats and festivals I have attended since 2005. As a result, reading blogs like yours is rather bittersweet ... you are a born enabler and I refuse to be enabled! But I quite agree with your comment about substituting overdyes for plain old reliable DMC ... some designs just cry out for substitutions.

  11. I don't know what it is about those overdyed fibers, but they are a joy to stitch with, aren't they? Your February house looks great!

  27. Edgar, gorgeous finish! I need to start mine but I am definitely going to do the blue birds. I have changed the colors so more berry like and think I am going to do a gray roof and door. Need to get started as February is just around the corner. I finally picked up my January cottage from the framer tonight.

  40. beautiful progress (today's post and the next)... I agree and I too change fibers/line periodically - heck, I sometimes change a part of a sampler to suit my name/saying, etc. - afterall, we are stitching for us (of if gifting, someone else), not the designer! What a cool gifty/box you did up - love the local idea... I make cabbage rolls every fall for deer camp - always do up an extra pan or two for the freezer and take out when it's blustery and super cold here in Michigan - YUM!
