A Few Family Days

Gentle Readers and Dear Friends I am back up and running and "seeing the light at the end of the tunnel!!"  There are still piles of things to do but I am making some head way through the heaps.
__________

Over the last few days - although there where 5 of them away from work they still just flew by - my sister and her family came in Thursday morning and after settling in I knew it would be a great Thanksgiving.  We had some other friends over so I had two tables  - one for the "old" adults and a table for the  "young" adults - and everything worked out well.  After a few hours of completely over eating and hanging out we just all plopped down to watch some movies - and that was basically our Thanksgiving!!
__________

Friday came and we headed out to run around San Francisco.  I let them make the decisions as to where we are going and what they wanted to do - they are the guests from out of town - and I live here - and we had a great time!!

We started off with a visit to Dudley Perkins Harley Davidson showroom/shop.  They are great fans of the motorcycle and Harley is the brand of choice.  I had my camera and got some snaps....

This is the front of the place..

.. and there is this old picture you can be a part of, that is Katie and Cissy being part of it and John looking over the top..

Inside on the first floor are some classic bikes and some racing/biking memorabilia

The showroom is upstairs on the second floor..

A bigger snap of the showroom

.. and a bike I thought looked great.  From here we went and got a late breakfast at a place called "The Pork Store."

A great place for a tasty breakfast or lunch.
__________

From there we headed to the Haight/Ashbury area....

and passed the Ben Jerry's shop, where I got this snap of the seasonal flavour offerings....

We walked in and out of the shops along Haight Street and made a big stop at Amoeba Records.  We rounded out the day with a tasty dinner from Patci's Pizza- they deliver!!!

_____________

They packed up and left Saturday morning and we had our quiet afternoon cleaning and putting everything away.  On Sunday we got to early Mass where Father Steve and all of us used the new Roman Missal, 3rd Edition, translation - there was some stumbling, but eventually everything will run smoothly again.  Thank goodness there was a fold out card with the step by step new responses and changes spelled out!!

I finished up the stitching and finishing of an Exchange piece that I will send out tomorrow.
_____________

There you go - our little weekend of Family, food and fun!!  Thanks for stopping by, do come again!

Take care,
edgar

  4. Sounds like you had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend!
I had to laugh when I saw the seasonal flavors in B&J's window LOL I read in the newspaper a few weeks ago that some supermarkets in Florida are not going to carry their "Schweddyballs" flavor because they find the name offensive LOL I didn't remember the SNL skit that this refers to but I went to B&J's website and they have it. Too funny! Sound like it would be an interesting flavor though.

Thanks for sharing your weekend :)

We had the same experience with the new missals this week in church.

  6. Glad you had a good weekend. There was a big article in our newspaper on Saturday about the new "translation" of the service.

  7. Sounds like you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and even a couple of days to re-settle, always good. Yes it was an experience at Mass on Sunday, and eventually we will all get it right (including our Fr. Joe who was good until about halfway through and he even flubbed a little!). Glad to hear that work is getting better. I am looking forward to this weekend as I am taking a class at the Campbell Folk School in NC, should be awesome.

  8. Looks like a great time! My honey would be in "hog heaven" (pun intended) at the Harly store. I've actually had a pint of "Schweddyballs" and it's pretty good. It actually tastes like there's real rum in it!

  9. So glad you had a nice Thanksgiving with your sister and the family.

My daughter is making her Communion next year and so has been learning the new responses since September and the poor thing has been so confused as to why everyone wasn't saying the same things she was. But now everyone is on the same page, so to speak, so she is no longer confused. I'm glad for her, but I am thoroughly confused myself and will have to read out of the book for awhile until I get the hang of it!

  11. Looks like such a great time! What fun to go to a place dedicated to Harly motorcycles. My LNS owner's dog's name is Harly. And the pup can actually tell the sound and look of a Harly from other motorcycles. Can you believe it? Anyway, glad you had a wonderful time with family!

  16. I had no idea that the Catholic church was changing their missels. I'm confessional Lutheran so our service looks very much like a mass because Luther kind of "hack n slashed" the mass and took out the parts he didn't like and added other stuff.
I remember when they changed our hymnal back when I was in 3rd grade and we all had to learn everything and they took out the "amen" at the ends of most of the hymns and all the "thees" and "thous." A few years ago, they released a supplement with new settings and new tunes for the Gloria and the Sanctus and the Agnus Dei and Kyrie so we all had to stumble over singing them again. So, I feel your pain.
I have decided to be a stick in the mud on my Bible translation though. I think the NIV 84 is just fine. I memorized so many passages in Lutheran school that I don't feel like re-memorizing them with the new translation or buying a new expensive study Bible. Sorry Zondervan.

My brother has a Harley, the sound is so unmistakable when it roars up the road.
