Shopping in the Mission

GR&DF welcome to BSS on this bright, sunny and no rain Thursday. We are supposed to have a deluge tomorrow so we shall enjoy the nice day today.

Yesterday on the way home we stopped in the Mission to shop a bit - our first stop is always at our favorite panaderia La Victoria...

We often stop here when the mood strikes us for a delicious bite of pastry.
Of course I had to get some snaps.....

The way this works is sort of self service - you just grab a tray and some tongs from the counter and pick and choose from the cases of goodies...

....these cookies where just lovely and sprinkled packed into this glass jar..

....and there where more beautiful cookies...

We also stopped at the fruit stand that is across the street...

I know that the people in the store thought I was nuts with my camera but look how nicely everything looks...

Have a Mango...

Then there where these great nopales, but we couldn't figure out what these extra prickly things next to them might be - fruit??

The mission is full of brightly painted and muralled buildings here are a couple...

...and here...

That was our little visit to the Mission - I hope you enjoyed the snaps!!

Last night was more Easter stitching - it is coming along fine and I am so happy I changed to this new piece - I hope my partner likes it!!

The films where great and it was a super beginning showcaseing the Star of the month on TCM - Ginger Rogers.

Here is a coloured still with Fred and Ginger from "Swing Time" - 1936.

There you sports fans. Thank you for stopping by and for the kind comments!!

Take care,
edgar

  1. Ah yes! Coming to that time of year where we will start seeing lots of your sidewalk sale shopping! We don't have much here in town. There are however, lots of local farmers that sale right out of their gardens though. It's lots of gas by the time you make your rounds. Boy those pastries look yummy! I think I will go feed myself!

  2. I believe the fruit in question is the "prickly pear". It's an edible cactus.

  3. Great photos! Now I am starving and all I have is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for lunch. :(

  4. What lovely pictures! It must be so nice to live in SF! I'm very envious every time I see all your pics of the city. But keep 'em coming -- I love them!

Darn, I forgot to watch Ginger last night. :(

  5. Yum! The pastries look so good. We get those here on our Friday breakfasts at work now and then. And I believe the green prickly things next to the nopales (yummo too) are chayotes. I have never seen them that prickly before though. I used to steam them up with butter and salt for my daughter, she loved them when she was little. They are very tasty.

  6. Tongs? Did you say "use tongs"? That's about the same as freezing leftover Girl Scout Cookies. Certainly no need for such a device. Just open wide...........

  7. Your photos make me want to hop right on a ferry and go over to Pike Place Market. The flower market is full of beautiful spring flowers ! The fruit and veggie stands are always colorful. However, we finally have all the rain you guys have been getting!

  10. What great pictures. I so love going to CA to visit my sister so that we can go to places like that. Here in the Midwest we have a Farmer's Market in my hometown, but nothing like what you have.

  11. Gosh; those buildings are pretty--love all those blue-greens. I also really like those glass jars--wouldn't one of those in the house full of cookies look smart! And tempting....:D
