A mid-week Posting and a Drawing

GR&DF - Thank you once again for so many nice comments -
I do appreciate your time a trouble!!

I think I Will answer some of the questions that were asked.. I looked around on line and found that the name of those scissors is "Criss." Last night while I was stitchin' away on an exchange and was using them that they are pretty heavy for embroidery scissors. or at least in comparison to the Dovo pair I usually use. They work very well but they a thicker and heavier - just an observation.

I was thinking about what might have happened to the baby pidge - I think that it was a weaker and smaller bird - like a runt in the litter. A sad point in nature.

Mary Beth - what Musicals are you watching???? I got my "Now Playing" TCM Guide for next month and the actor they are highlighting is Claude Raines - such a great actor be sure to catch some of his films. Colleen - I love that movie "The Nun's Story" and it is also in my collection.
Last night the flicker was "Frances" - 1982 - starring Jessica Lange and Kim Stanley. This is a flick I had never seen but had heard of - a very gritty biopic of the life of Frances Farmer - from her super rise to stardom on the screen and the stage - and her fall into mental illness - a really compelling film at 2 1/2 hours it moves along a good clip - I would recommend it just for a look at how the studio system in the 30's could create and destroy actors -

I finished up a very good book that I wanted to pass on - so lets have a little drawing-giveaway...

This is the book - The Sisters - about the Mitford family as a group but focused on the lives of the five girls -

Jessica, Nancy, Diana, Unity and Pamela -

A really good book - that I thoroughly enjoyed. If you would like to throw your name in the BOD (bowl of destiny) then leave a comment on this post and I will have a name drawn on Monday evening 8/17 with an announcement of the winner on Tuesday - leave a email or way for me to contact you so I can get the book in the mail as soon as possible.

There you go sports fans - Thanks for stopping by - do come again!!!

Take care,
edgar

  1. I'll have to see if I can locate "Frances" somewhere. It sounds like a movie I would enjoy. BTW, thanks for all the great info you pass along in the way of movies, cross stitch and other interesting subjects. You're one of my favorite blogs and I miss reading it on weekends but I understand you need a break, too :)

I am a "reader" and would love to have this book! The problem is...the first person to sign up very seldom wins anything...LOL Here's my email, just in case:

  9. That book looks like it would be a great read - certainly the style of books I enjoy. Howver, due to the cost of postage to Aust - I will search for the book instead at my Library. I would like to forward my entry to Anna VanS - sorry if that's against the rules..
Thank you also for showing your yellow bowl - I find that things mix and taste better when using vintage ceramic rather than modern plastic.

  10. That sounds like a cool book! They are closing my library! Horrors!
I've sent every stinking councilperson in Gwinnett County a very unhappy email. They did it by a sneaky way, a closed meeting a day before they let the people know! Rotten Rats, I told them I would NOT be voting for them in the future. I'm so burned up about it, so many students use this library, it's right beside both middle and high schools.
So my book ready frenzy will be slowing down:(
I'm glad you've got the birdies, I'd be crying and making a grave for the poor deceased one. Sigh. I blew your ear off, sorry Edgar!
    Hugs,
    Donna

  15. Sorry to hear about the baby pidge. Nature can be cruel sometimes.
I'd love to be in the drawing for the book. Looks like a topic I would be interested in. Have you read the one about King George III daughters?

  16. This book looks like a good one. Count me in! I've just finished reading "Velva Jean Learns to Drive" and am now in to "The Time Travelers Wife". I always like to read the book before I see the movie (coming out this weekend).

  17. The book looks very interesting! Please put my name in the drawing.

I saw Frances a couple of years ago and I remember it being a good one. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

My list for MGM musicals to watch this week includes... Singing in the Rain, On the Town, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Wizard of Oz, Harvey Girls, Silk Stockings, Brigadoon, Summer Stock, & Broadway Melody of 1938. It should make for some excellent stitching time!
