Love is Warm Sheets

Gentle friends, I sort of let the laundry go a bit last week, so last night I made it my mission to get'er done!!  Sooooo... I poured myself a big old Bloody Mary and headed to the pile...  since we have two washers and two dryers in the laundry room of our building things moved along quite quickly.  As I brought up the first dry load of whites ...

... the Hump and Lolly jumped into some really hot sheets..... their favorite spot on laundry day!!  Loving these little dogs!!!

A Few Fun Things From the Looong Weekend.....

Gentle Friends, I'm back from my looong weekend of a few fun things..... so here goes...

Once again TCM held their Memorial Day marathon... 72 hours of film covering the different American conflicts on film from the Civil War to the Korean War.  There were some super films shown!!  I also got some stitching done and here's a shot of Hannah as she is at the moment...

 ... I'm coming up on the finish in the near future and have already lined up my next piece.....

We also headed down to the pool a couple of times.  The weather was just gorgeous, in the upper 70's, bright and clear..... 

....  it's a Rico bobbing along in the sunshine!!

We wrapped up the weekend yesterday evening with a celebration of Rico's big brother's Birthday!!  Happy Birthday, Torchy!!  We got a cake from our favorite bakery!!  It was chocolate cake with a chocolate creme filling - so delicious!!

A Little Bar-B-Que

Gentle Friends, Saturday afternoon the folks the manage our apartment building hosted a "Kick Off the Summer Pool Party." The weather was typically Summer in San Francisco.... which means bright and sunny with cold gale force winds and a temp hovering in the mid-50's.... a perfect day if you ask me!!  Here are some snaps...

 ... mostly we were hanging out just eating and talking...

 ... eventually, some brave folks got in the pool, and even with our pool being heated (which is the only way you could swim in SF) it was only a few of the bravest to hit the water...  that's Tracy our resident manager in the unicorn float!!  It was a lot of fun meeting some new people that have moved in and just a really lovely day!!  Thanks, Tracy!!

An Anniversary

Gentle Friends, today would have been my parents 63rd Wedding Anniversary.  I flipped through their Wedding album and here's a couple of pictures I don't think I've shared before...

This past Sunday I again placed flowers on the altar of Most Holy Redeemer for them and Rico had the Mass Intentions said in their honor... 

It was Pentecost Sunday and the color choices were sort of preset... 

... but without my knowledge, they used Birds of Paradise, a flower my mom really liked and even grew... the arrangements also used other tropical flowers she really would have enjoyed...

We usually get pizza on Friday night and this week was no different.  

The big difference was the "new to us" place we tried...

... Twin Peaks Pizza...

... we got a combo of pepperoni, sausage, and bell peppers... it was an easy online order and came really fast for a Friday evening... and what really counts...was pretty tasty!!  We'll be sure to keep the menu in our Take-out/Delivery folder of menus for sure!!

A Little Early Weekend Fun

Gentle Freinds, last night we met up with some friends for a little weekend fun on a Thursday... we really wanted to try this new place in the Castro...called...

... Papi Rico...

it's only been open for a few weeks and is a little bit of Puerto Vallarta right here in the City...

 ... it's really bright and colorful... and as you walk in you are in the bar area...

it's at the bar that you place your order for both food and drinks ...

 ... the dining areas are towards the back of the restaurant and there is a great patio/outdoor space in the way back!!  This area  I am sure we will be packed on the few warm days we have here by the bay...

 ...  we started off with some drinks and an order of really delicious guacamole.  The "Dos Salsas e Guacamole" comes with a tomatillo salsa and a red salsa along with the guac', the chips are made in-house and were warm and tasty.  The drinks menu has a nice selection a various Margarita type drinks, I don't like tequila so that's never for me.... there is also a nice list of Mexican and domestic beers... AND... they make some really delicious Sangria both red and white... 

I went with red, YUMMY!!

For dinner we ordered Quesadillas...

three orders of carnitas ... 

and I ordered mine Al Pastor... 

they came out of the kitchen to the table really fast and were super tasty!!

After dinner, we needed...  dessert so we headed towards...

The Castro Fountain...

... which is about 100 feet from Papi Rico's so it was easy to find...

and there's a big ice cream cone in front so you can't miss it...

...  we all got a little something, I took a piece of the Orange olive oil cake home.   

At about 9:00pm I made a cup of coffee and enjoyed my piece of cake... 

while being wrapped up in a quilt watching...

 The Guns of Navarone (for like the 100th time)  I love that movie!!

A Little Updating

Gentle Friends, well, we waited for something else to hit...after about 10 minutes figured 

nothing else was coming...

... we watched a little TV and I stitched some then we wrapped up the evening and all was quiet.  It's very unnerving when we feel a quake... then you know it's gotta be a strong one on the Richter scale.  We get dozens of small quakes every day all day long..... but these are rarely felt.

A Bumpy Night

Gentle Friends....we just had a 3.8 earthquake that just rolled through the City.  It was centered in Oakland at a depth of 5.9 miles..... there were a couple of jolts that felt like our building was being hit by a large bus... then it just stopped!

A Little Planning

Gentle Freinds, it's that time again when I start to think about traveling.  I like to travel in the Fall of the year.  It's not always worked out that way..... I've been to Germany and Austria in the early Spring, lovely - and there was still some snow in the Alps!! I've been to Italy in the late Summer, warm and the evenings were gorgeous for just walking around those ancient Cities ...especially Venice!!  One of my favorite travel memories is walking around in the middle of the night in a quiet, still, balmy Venice it was warm and only a few other crazy types were walking about enjoying the night, the buildings the canals..... whoops off track a bit...  back to the post...

The Fall is my preferred time of year to travel. Recently, I've been working on some ideas from my "Bucket List" where I might want to go.   Not having made any solid plans yet friends of mine that spend the Spring and Fall months in Europe asked me to spend some time with them this Fall... WooHoo!!   So... the decision was made for me by something greater than myself......  here's a super Drone Video I found showing the area I'm headed for.....  enjoy.....

... I've been to the Loire Valley a few times and it's just beautiful ... with lovely Chateaux, spectacular gardens and vineyards... it's the classic vision of France and I'm looking forward to the Fall!!  It's also where my favorite chateau is located... Chenonceau that lies across the River Cher...

It was a low key weekend of not too much - very quiet and ended with a wonderful massage yesterday... so all is right with the world..... but it is just Monday!!

A Little Dinner

Gentle Friends, Rico was down in the Valley over the weekend visiting his family so the Who Hounds and I were on our own.  I did my usual laundry, vacuuming and reagular house cleaning kind of stuff... but I also wanted to do something fun which meant hooking up with some friends and headed to a great seafood restaurant for dinner - 

..."Catch" is a really nice upscale restaurant in the Castro and it was the first time I'd ever been here...

... we sat down and of course ordered some cocktails... I had a Catch Sour - bourbon, lime juice, agave nectar with a red wine float....  delicious!!  You can see behind my drink my friends cocktail a Cucumber Jalapeno Margarita - tequila, muddled cucumber, jalapeno, agave nectar, lime juice with a tajin rim... also delicious!!

... and the third drink on the table was a Berry Lemon Drop - vodka, lemon juice and mixed berry puree.... delish!

 ... the menu...

 ... I started off with a bowl of french onion soup that was very good!!

.... one of my dinner mates instead of ordering a full dinner ordered a bowl of the soup of the day which was a lobster bisque with truffle oil... and two sides ...

 ... tarragon risotto with butternut squash...

... and parmesan mashed potatoes...

 .... I also didn't want a full dinner so I ordered a Starter of calamari and... 

 .... a side of roasted asparagus with lemon aioli...

it was totally the right choice and was so very good!!!

...my other dinner mate went for a dinner and ordered the grilled wild salmon with black-eyed peas...

.... we were sitting around for a while after dinner talking so I needed another drink...

 and got a Dark and Stormy...  we finally made a decision about dessert...

... so two of us ordered dessert a dark chocolate brownie with pecan praline gelato.... and I got...

.... a cup of coffee and an order of  Vanilla Creme Brulee!! A perfect ending to a fun dinner!!
