A Little Spring

Gentle Friends, over the weekend we headed down to the beach and the far end of Golden Gate Park to see some season-changing things... the highlight of this annual visit is the Dutch windmill tulip gardens given to the city of San Francisco in 1902 by Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands.  The windmills once pumped fresh groundwater to Golden Gate Park and helped to convert the sand dunes that once covered this area into the man-made botanical area it has become... here are some snaps ...

... they change the colors of the tulips and this year they were lovely red and yellow with lots of yellow California Poppies scattered about.....

... there were also some cyclamen and primroses for some ground cover, overall it was nice to visit and so pretty.... even with the really cold weather we've been having.....  Spring has sprung here by the Bay!!

A Little Lunch

Gentle friends, we were out and about over the weekend and nothing fun turned up for purchase but we did head over to a new place for some lunch... Lazeez... and here's what we picked up to take home...

... we both chose Gyros's... Rico went for grilled chicken and...

.... I picked the more traditional meat - "beef & Lamb" ... they both came with lettuce, tomato, onion, and tzatziki sauce... both came on grilled pita bread.  We also picked up a side of fries to split.  They were really good, and super big, like giant burritos, so big that we cut them in half and had them again on Sunday for lunch!!

A Little Stitchin'

Gentle friends, I've been working a bit on HEiotS...

... filled in the house part and the only real change was to use "Old Purple Paint" for the door instead of "Mulberry"... then I started up on my Spring piece... I began this stitch using a 40ct RR piece of linen... which I didn't like, it was far to stiff and the color was just off a bit so I frogged out the border that I had stitched and then dug around and found another piece of linen I liked far better.....

...  a really lovely piece of  36ct Lakeside Linen, the color is "Vintage Sand Dune."  I've restitched the border I frogged out of the other piece of linen and am a much happier stitcher with the way it looks.  The piece I started is LHN "Little Sheep Virtues" and I am stitching it as a single large sampler.  I have modified the border from the many colours and variations charted to a single color "Wilderness," and will be leaving the diamonds open - for now - I like the way it looks, but I just might change my mind.......  the end is a long way off.  I have also changed all of the colors from the recommended DMC floss to various overdyed floss' including WDW, CC, and GAST - I'll talk about them as I stitch along.

A Little Linen Gifting

Gentle friends,  while digging around in my linen stash (I'm working up a new start for Spring) I came across quite a few lower count linens that another stitcher would be able to put to use and so have decided to have...

... a little Drawing for the whole shebang so that they can have a new home!  This mix of linens are all different counts like 20, 22, 24, 28 and even some 32 and all different sizes... I didn't make a list or even count how many pieces... it's a real grab bag of things... so here's how it'll work... If you'd like to win this pile of linen... leave a comment on this Post only by 12pm PST - next Thursday, February 15th.  I'll have the hag Claw draw a name and announce the Winner on Friday.  Make sure that I can contact you if you win and that's all there is to it... easy peasy!!

A Little Stitchin'

Gentle Friends, over the weekend I found some interesting things on our usual journey through the thrift and consignment shops....

... I found this great sterling "Pansy Bowl" and after cleaning it up...

it turned out pretty nice!!   The Nativity triptych is a great find and that when it is folded up the has a "night on the desert" kind of painting on the outside ...  I think it was made in the 1940's or so just from the way it is made and the painted images ... I also found the beautiful old lustreware plate with hand painted decoration that dates to ca. 1810 or so...

A Little Stitchin'

Gentle Friends,  still working away on HEioTS and here's where I am at the moment...

... the biggest change I made was to use GAST "Mulberry" for the four chimneys, I like the idea that they are brick, the chart called for them to be stitched with WDW "Havanna" the same as the outlines and roofs and that wasn't going to work for me...
