A Little Thrifting

Gentle Friends, it's Thursday all over which means a snap or two of last weekends thrifting...

....  I found a great transfer ware creamer, a copy of the superior version of "Bleak House" with the roll of Lady Dedlock being played by that wonderful actress Diana Rigg ( I have such a soft spot for her, and have ever since I first saw her on the stage in London in the roll of Martha in "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf") a nice copy of "The Night Before Christmas" and a couple of older tape measures.  In addition to the tape measures I  found at the Estate Sale we went to.....

....was this great little runner.  I think it cost me .25 - I just couldn't leave it, all that handwork that was just sort of tossed in a heap of linens.   There wasn't much crafty stuff, and I think this was missed. The only other piece of hardanger I saw was a larger unfinished piece, that I wish now I had also gotten, but I didn't.  I am pretty sure that whomever the house belonged to was Scandinavian ( or a big fan ) as I saw a ton of cookbooks from that region and little travel trinkets from Norway and Sweden.
__________

That's about it for today sports fans.  Thanks for stopping by, do stop again!!

Take care,
edgar

  2. Wow! What a steal on the table runner. I love it - reminds me of my great-grandmothers handwork. You find such great deals - I want to come thrifting with you!

  3. I love old linens like this. I have gotten some beautiful old table scarves, etc. at yard sales. No one uses (or wants) those things any more. How sad. Glad you appreciate them as I do.

I have a weakness for cookbooks. I have two large boxes of them up in my attic. I just can't seem to make myself get rid of them, though.

  6. Great finds! I always buy the handwork when I see it so cheap. Imagine the hours spent creating it.

  10. A stunning runner. When I see lovely handcrafted things I always wonder what type of person made it and when, in what circumstances it came to be offered to a new home.

  11. Great finds Edgar. I love the runner.
It breaks my heart when I see painstaking work like that just cast aside to charity shops and sales. I always have to rescue it and bring it home

  12. I adore Diana Rigg, she is awesome! Of course I like more British actors than I do American, but that's just me. I think they seem to take their craft more seriously..and lets face it a british accent on a dude is just yummy! Ok, I digress.

The table runner has me green all over with envy. You have something special in that table runner. It's edge with crochet lace and the body appears to be hardanger it's lovely. I once did a piece of this (a zillion years ago when I was young) on 22 count fabric...it was an angel..., but I held my breath when I had to cut those threads. You should give it a try, it really was fun.

Wishing you a most lovely day. :)
